(A lot of this story came about by starting to look up one fact on Wikipedia, and ended up going in lots of different and obscure directions. Rather like a museum. Below are some definitions, just in case:)

Natural History- The study of plants and animals, (usually by observation.)

Ichthyology - The study of fish.

Diptych Sundial- A diptych is two metal plates, hinged in the middle like a book. A diptych sundial, is a diptych with a sundial design on the inside of the two "leaves" of the diptych.

42 - This is the answer to "Life, the Universe, and Everything" according to the Douglas Adams book of the same name. (Douglas Adams also wrote for the Doctor Who TV Series.)

Horsehead Nebula- A dark nebula in the constellation of Orion which resembles a horse. A nebula is an interstellar cloud of dust and gas.

Macrame - A textile artform consisting of tying knots in patterns instead of weaving. For making such things as macrame purses or plant hangers.

Khipu - An Ancient Incan system of writing that used a pattern of knots in thread.

Rodin's "The Kiss" - A famous sculpture of a man and woman kissing, by the by the sculptor of "The Thinker." (A statue of, "The Kiss" can also be seen in a Doctor Who episode.)
