The scene vanished and soon, he was no longer looking at his mother and Snape. Now, Harry was looking at his father, who appeared to be about five years old. He smiled when he noticed that while his raven hair was as messy and unruly as ever, he was not sporting glasses. His vibrant hazel eyes were shining with mischief.
"Okay, James! I'll give you 30 seconds to hide!" a deep voice called out from somewhere. The man moved into Harry's line of sight. Harry gasped - it was his grandfather, Charles Potter.
He had never seen him before. Since Harry was left to his only living relatives, the Dursleys, he knew that his grandparents must have passed away before the night his parents died. He studied his grandfather's appearance. Charles Potter looked to be in his 20s, meaning he and Harry's grandmother, Emmeline Potter, had James when they were young. Probably a couple years after graduating Hogwarts, just like Lily and James. He was the spitting image of James, and therefore, Harry - the same messy hair, crooked smile, pointed nose, strong jaw. The only major difference was his eyes. Charles had blue eyes.
"1… 2… 3…"
Young James hurried around a corner.
"17… 18… 19…"
He sprinted down a hallway.
"26… 27… 28…"
He dashed into a room.
Charles walked down the same corridor and peeked into every room, looking for his small son. The smile on his face grew a bit every time he exited the room without finding him. He was proud that his son had inherited knack for mischief.
"Jay where are you?" Charles called out in a sing song voice. James let out a peal of laughter, and immediately clapped a hand to his mouth when he saw his father look in the direction of the room he was hiding in.
In that moment, James wished for nothing more but to make sure his father didn't find him.
Suddenly, Harry saw something change. He gasped as he watched James fade until he was gone. He had somehow managed to turn himself invisible.
"James?" Charles called, walking into the room.
If Harry had been able to see James, he would've seen the small boy just two feet in front of Charles, looking frightened. He thought that his father had found him. He waited for Charles to say "Gotcha!" but he didn't. Instead, he looked around the room, truly convinced James was hiding in this room.
"Son?"
It was then that James looked down at himself and realized he wasn't there. He was invisible.
"Dad!" James yelled, waving his arms about above his head. "Dad, I'm right here!"
Charles jumped a bit when he heard James' voice coming from what seemed to be right in front of him. He slowly moved forward, his hand stretched out before him, until he felt his son's mop of messy hair.
Chuckling a bit, Charles pulled out his wand and waved it, revealing a grinning James.
"Dad! Dad, I did magic!"
Charles laughed. "Yes, Jamie my boy, you did. I'm proud of you. Why don't we go tell your mother, eh?"
Harry smiled as he watched his father grin and nod excitedly. Charles bent down and let James climb onto his back. The two exited the room and went to go find Emmeline.
