Erza knows Gray loves her more. She knows the boy will go to any given lengths just to see her smile radiate -and sometimes it's even overly-poetic, but the truth still remains that.
At the same moment, he isn't who can make her angry as much as he does. He can't grin goofily as he does.
Because Gray Fullbuster can never be Natsu Dragneel.
It's only 10:30 at night, and for the first time she has reached her home exactly at the moment her father instructed. Perhaps Gray's punctuality is what makes other girls drool over him -after all, that smirk, that glint in his mesmerizing eyes, his slightly tanned charming face makes any girl want to kneel down in front of him.
She continues walking, and before she can knock on the door, her mother has it swung half-open, worry and surprise mixed with anxiety evident in her eyes.
"You're awfully early than usual, honey. Is everything okay?"
Erza smiles, "Of course! My boyfriend just wanted to show you how responsible he really is, that's all."
Mirajane lets her enter, and mutters with relief, "Ah, so that's the case. It's just that Natsu never dropped you before midnight."
The red-head stiffens, and nods sternly, her face resembling a shackling rock.
"He was just used to care about himself. And I was just too foolish to realize it."
The clock strikes 12. Her brown orbs are fixated on the time, brimming with tears unshed for a long time.
Erza sighs and closes her eyes, willing the sleep to come. Instantly, flashes of a grinning boy haunt her, and nostalgia grips her heart.
She knows that Gray is the best guy one can deserve and have, but it's someone else whom she craves.
Erza feels stupid for being stuck over a cheater rather than a charmer.
Rolling around her bed, she sobs, and opens her eyes. Sleeping seems like such a hard time. There is a clenching in her throat, and she wonders why all of a sudden she is crying when it's Natsu who should be weeping over her loss.
Gray is fabulous, amazing, charming, endearing, loving, caring, smart, perfect... he's just not the one she loves. Because Gray isn't the one who prided himself in winning little arguments with her, grinned over stupidest things, got scared when she cried... he isn't the one whom she found worthy enough to call her 'best friend' and 'the one'.
He isn't the one who promised love when he first time saw her crying pathetically.
And no matter how many hours pass away, no matter how many breaths she take but can't breathe, no matter how many fragments of nostalgic moments spent together clutching her heart pass away... Natsu Dragneel is, and always will remain the one for whom she'll give away the universe gladly.
Because he is her orbit -helping her move, and without him, she's stuck like the hand of the clock now striking 2 in the morning.
Ah, finally an update, huh? Doesn't matter though -people just don't love me anymore.
