A hand in your darkness, so you won't be afraid.

When you think the night has seen your mind

That inside you're twisted and unkind

Let me stand to show that you are blind

Please put down your hands

'Cause I see you

I'll be your mirror.

I'll Be Your Mirror – The Velvet Underground

Edith ran through the rain, not caring about how her jeans and sweater (one she had swiped from Anthony a few weeks earlier) were quickly soaked through. Nothing matter except making her way to the blue-doored apartment. Running through the streets of London was a rather dangerous notion, Edith found this as she narrowly avoided being hit by a number of vehicles. Although she really couldn't bring herself to care.

In a blink of an eye it seemed she was standing at his door, ringing the bell. She continued to ring until finally hearing footsteps against the hardwood floor of the entryway.

"Yes, yes I hear- Edith." He stood stock still, staring blankly at her. It took a moment before he realized that she as soaking wet. "Come in, come in here, you'll catch your death."

"I deserve to." Was her miserable reply.

"What?" He asked in confusion, wrapping an arm around her as he led her into his study. Edith began to shiver as he set her down in front of the fire, wrapping the blanket from the back of the sofa around her.

"I deserve to catch my death after what I did to you." She clarified, trembling despite the added warmth.

"You don't, Edie." He reassured her, trying to pull her close but she wouldn't allow it, she wanted to look him in the eyes as she spoke.

"I do. I was such a fool. I let everyone scare me and change my mind… I'm so sorry, Anthony. I'm so sorry. Can you ever forgive me?" Edith wept, holding onto his shoulders as if her life depended on it. "I love you, Anthony. I love you so desperately. I shouldn't have let anyone convince me otherwise. Anthony, please."

Anthony found it difficult to fight his own tears as she desperately pleaded for his forgiveness.

"If you want me to go… if you don't love me anymore I'll understand. But please, just say that you forgive me."

"I've always been willing to fight for us, Edith. For you." He reminded her, moving to sit beside her.

"I wasn't ready yet, but I am now." She promised, throwing her arms around him and hugging him tightly. After a moment she looked up, stretching up to kiss him. It mirrored their first kiss, the one they shared when he was out of his mind on LSD, outside of the pictures.

"Are you certain?" He asked, not wanting her to feel like she was being rushed. "We can wait a while more if you would prefer?"

"Yes. Anthony, I want to marry you, be with you. Today."

"Then let's get married today." He shrugged, leaning down to give her another kiss. With her distracted he reached into his pocket and pulled out the ring she had sent back to him. "This belongs to you."

After changing into one of the dresses she had left at his flat, Edith and Anthony found themselves back out in the rain. Fortunately Anthony had a friend who was more than willing to help with their situation, agreeing to marry them at a moment's notice.

As the clock struck three, Anthony and Edith were married. Just the two of them in the magistrate's office, with the man's secretary as their witness. It wasn't the grand wedding that had been planned, but certainly the preferred nuptials of the equally bashful couple.

"Did you ever think this would happen that day you were sent to find me?" Edith laughed as Anthony deployed an umbrella so they could walk home and stay somewhat dry.

"Darling, I had no idea what I was thinking when I was sent to find you. Certainly not this, I never knew I would be able to love someone the way I do you." He replied, wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "You have brought light to even the darkest day London could provide."

"You ignite the light." She grinned, standing up on her tiptoes to press a kiss to his lips. "Let's get home."

"What's waiting for us at home?"

"Better things than a walk in the rain."

"Lead on, Mrs. Strallan."

Here's hoping all the days ahead

Won't be as bitter as the ones behind you.

Be an optimist instead,

And somehow happiness will find you.

Forget what happened yesterday,

I know that better things are on the way.

That's all she wrote. Thank you all for reading and reviewing. This was an odd whim of a story that I had, hoping to mix my love of the 60's, music, and Andith. Rather pleased with the outcome if I do say so myself. Thanks again.
