Clove POV
As I guessed, we did regret all those wasted time come Sunday night when we still had a pile of work to do. We all managed to finish it so I guess it was alright.
Half the week has already gone with nothing exciting happening. Then Wednesday came. Mom called me early to breakfast because she said she had something important to tell me.
"Clove, do you mind working at the youth theater for a few weeks? Just on Saturdays. Your aunt said she had to leave town for a while since she has other things that need immediate attention. I thought that since you're good with kids then you could go. But the decision's entirely up to you."
I didn't even need to think twice about it. I love kids! And working at a theater group would be a great opportunity for me to build up my confidence as well. "You don't have to ask me twice! I'm definitely in! I could use a little extra cash."
If she was offended, she didn't show it. She just smiled brightly and said, "That's great! She said could start this Saturday. It starts at 9am. Don't worry, I'll drive you this Saturday since I have the day off but I'm afraid I won't be able to do it very often."
"It's alright, mom. I don't mind commuting."
"Alright, dear but be careful." She took a quick glance at the clock and noticed the time. "Oh! We're going to be late! Hurry up and eat your breakfast so that we can get going!"
The week flew by pretty fast. I can't believe it's already Saturday! I got up bright and early since I was so excited to start working with kids. I hope they won't be spoiled brats. But I guess since it's a theater thing, I highly doubt there won't be any. I hope at least one of them is nice. I'm sure there are still good parents out there.
Mom dropped me off at the mini theater where the workshop was being held. It took a little less than 15 minutes to get there. There were already some kids in the theater once we got in and as expected, there were spoiled little ones who were already complaining to their parents. They couldn't leave yet since it's still early and some of the facilitators still weren't around. My mom and I kept going until we reached the office where I would have to make myself known. Once we got there, we were greeted by a young lady who looked to be around her early 20s.
"Hello! How can I help you?"
"My daughter is here to fill in for Amanda Grace. She's my cousin."
"Oh! Yeah, she did mention that her niece was coming! Welcome! C'mon in! My name's Lindsay by the way." She took us on a quick tour for a little while since we still had about 15 minutes to kill. It was really nice and cute in here. There was a prop room where all the props from the previous plays were kept, a music room with a grand piano in the center and a few other instruments for the musical numbers, dressing rooms and other places common in a theater house. Once it was almost time, we bid my mom goodbye and headed for the classroom where the kids were already instructed to be in, along with another facilitator.
Once we got in, it was utter chaos. There were kids screaming at each other while others were running around. Naturally, there were a few children who were seated on the floor where they were all supposed to be. One little girl, however, really caught my attention. She was seated quietly among the other well behaved kids but she was watching everything so intently. She had bright blue eyes and blonde hair which somehow reminded me of a certain someone I knew.
"Children! Settle down please! We're about to start!" Lindsay said, immediately calming the children down (well, most of them. There would always be deviant people). "Okay. Before we begin, I would like to introduce you all to Clove. She is taking the place of Ms. Grace for awhile since she's away. Everyone say hi!"
"Hi Clove!" the children chorused. It was rather adorable.
"Hello to you too! I hope we can all have fun!" and with that, the class begun. First we played a few games just to keep them entertained. Then split them into groups and were assigned to different parts of the theater. I was lucky enough to be left in charge of the music program. Lindsay chaperoned me since it was still my first day and I needed a bit of back up in case it gets a bit crazy. Lindsay told me to help the kids with their vocals and that we should have a little sing a long. I started with a relatively easy song first which are also known as nursery rhymes. After that, I started asking for requests. Note to self, do not do that ever again. They wanted to sing different songs and started fighting each other because they didn't agree with what the others had to say. Luckily I was able to think quickly and asked for a volunteer to sing solo. Surprisingly none of the kids wanted to do that. They all pointed to the little girl with blonde hair whom I noticed earlier.
"Charlie will sing, won't you?" the little brunette girl asked. She was wearing a pink floral dress with heals and accessories. Not to mention her hair was curled. Obviously a rich kid. The little girl named Charlie stood up and walked up to me with her head down. Poor girl. Maybe she's being bullied.
I smiled at her as she was approaching me. "What do you want to sing, sweety?"
"Do you know how to play Safe and Sound?"
"Is that by Taylor Swift?" she nodded. "It just so happens that I do. I love that song!" she smiled at me brightly. It once again made me remember a certain someone in my life. They really do resemble each other so much. I had to snap myself out of it and concentrated on music. I started playing the intro and then gave her the go signal to start singing. All I can say is that she had the most angelic voice I had ever heard. She hit all the right notes which was remarkable for a 4 year old little girl, especially considering it's quite a difficult song to sing. It made me think that maybe they are connected. Once the song ended, I praised her for her brilliant performance. She smiled at me before going back to her spot. We played a few more songs until it was time for them all to go home. The time flew by so fast! It was already half past 11am.
They all went out of the theater house in an orderly manner with us greeting the parents as they picked their children up. Everyone filed out one by one and before we knew it, there was only one kid left. Of course it had to be her. She was sitting on the chair with her feet swinging since it was dangling. She had her backpack on and was waiting patiently for someone to fetch her. I was about to go sit with her when someone walked in.
"Sorry I'm late! I got held up." she quickly explained. She was really pretty. Like Charlie, she had blonde hair and blue eyes yet hers was a bit darker (both her hair and eyes. Just to be clear). She was also really tall and could easily pass for a model. She looked a bit young to be a mother though. She was probably only in her early or mid 20s. Then again, in this day and age it's not that uncommon so it could still be possible.
"I've never seen you before," she said to me. "Sorry, that was rude. I'm Coleen. I'm Charlie's eldest sister." she said with her hand outstretched. I accepted it gladly. That name sounded familiar but then again it's a pretty common name for a girl. I'm probably just over thinking this whole situation.
"I'm new here. Well, sort of. I'm filling in for my aunt who's out of town. My name's Clove." her eyes widened and looked at me as if in recognition.
"Are you really? As in the Clove that goes to Panem High?" I was shocked that she knew who I was. I had no idea I was famous.
"Um.. Yeah that's me. How did you know?"
"Wow. Who knew he had it in him?" she said in sort of a whisper. I guess she was hoping I didn't hear it.
"I'm sorry?" But I didn't get the answer I was hoping for because her phone started ringing. She took it out of her purse and saw the caller ID before saying, "Shoot. We have to go. C'mon Charlie! It was nice finally meeting you Clove!" She left without another word, with the little girl in tow.
Finally? How does she even know me? If my suspicions are correct then they could possibly be linked. I guess there's only one way to find out.
Sorry for the super late update! I promise the next one will be out very soon! Please be patient with me. Thank you to those who have been reviewing, following and favoriting my story! It really means a lot to me. :)
