So I feel the need to give this story an ending. This won't be the last chapter, and I'm not sure how much longer this is going to be. I'll stop it when I find a nice, natural ending. I'm going to try to update this more often so I can get it finished.

WARNING: discussion of suicide and guilt and stuff that isn't really all that nice...

Sam was eating dinner with his family when his phone went off in his pocket. His mom quirked an eyebrow at him, they really weren't supposed to have phones at the dinner table but they'd all broken that rule at some point so it didn't really matter. Grinning sheepishly, he got up and pulled his phone out, leaving the small kitchen table, stopping to muse his little brother's hair on the way out. Once he was in the living room, he sat down on the couch and checked the caller ID. Finn. Grinning, he answered.

"Hey Finn. What's up?"

"Hey Sam. Think you could, uh, could you talk for a minute?" Finn questioned hesitantly.

"Yeah...I was just sitting down to eat dinner. What'd wrong? You sound kinda funny."

Sam heard Finn huff out a deep breath over the phone before beginning, "Look...it's-it's about Blaine. Tonight, he well...he tried to kill himself. It would be...great if you could get down to the hospital, maybe bring Tina and some others along...They...well the doctors I mean, they don't know what's gonna happen to him."

Sam's stomach dropped down to his knees. God, this isn't happening. He let out a few deep breaths before placing the phone back to his ear and replying, "Jesus...yeah, yeah. I'll grab Tina and Brittany and get over there as soon as I can. Just...just call me if anything changes, 'kay? I'll leave now, and, uh, do you want me to make any calls to anyone else?"

"Okay, yeah that, uh, that sounds fine...see you soon." Finn replied in a distracted sounding voice.

Sam pulled the phone from his ear with trembling hands, jabbing at the end call button angrily. His head sunk into his hands, and he rubbed them over his face roughly, trying to force some feeling into his now numb body. This...this was happening. He might have really been to late to save his best friend. He should have tried to do something about this mess sooner...he should have convinced everyone that Blaine wasn't so bad the moment all this shit went down. He should have done more...he should have made sure Blaine was okay. After losing Kurt...all Blaine had needed was a friend. Had everyone just forgotten about the fact that Blaine had been down this path before, that the only that had saved him had been friends and Kurt and music? It was no wonder Blaine was fighting for his life right now. They'd kicked him out of Glee simply because they were mad at him and they'd left him without any friends at all...Jesus, this was all their fault, wasn't it? It was.

Unable to sit still for another moment, Sam sprang up and ran to the kitchen, frantically dashing around looking for the car keys. He rummaged through the drawers. He still couldn't find them. He let out a deep groan and nearly punched the wall out of frustration, choosing instead the slam the drawer shut. He heard a sudden noise and spun around, seeing his mom and dad enter the room and shut the door quietly behind them.

"Sam...sweetheart, what's going on?" his mother's sweet voice washed over him and he felt her shift to stand next to him and place a delicate hand on his shoulder.

"Keys...keys. Where are they? I can't find them. I need them right now..." Sam babbled on, running his fingers through his disheveled hair, trying his best to remove himself from his mother's grasp and continue his search.

"They're...they're on the table in the hall like always. Why do you need them?" his father questioned, browed furrowed with worry. It was rare to see Sam so stressed, he was always so calm and laid back.

Sam took several deep breaths before turning to the both of them and continuing on in a low, cracked whisper so his little brother and sister wouldn't hear, "It's, uh, Blaine. He tired to kill himself tonight...and they don't know what's gonna happen to him. Finn called...I just need to drive down there and grab Tina and Brittany along the way...I just, I just need to be there for him. I-I just...I can't lose him."

"Oh sweetie," his mother mouthed as she pulled him into a deep hug. Sam hugged her back, letting out several shaky breaths before pulling away and rubbing his watery eyes.

"I'll call you later, 'kay?"

Both his parents nodded, wearing equal looks of distress and sadness on their faces. Blaine was a good kid, he'd become such a presence in their home in the past year that he was almost like another son. He was so good with Stevie and Stacey too, always letting them stick around and not even minding when he and Sam couldn't go out because of babysitting obligations. The two little kids were so fond of him, and they'd asked Sam where "their Blainey" was multiple times throughout the past month. Sam hadn't know what to tell them then, and he certainly didn't know what to tell them now.

Sam's mom gave him one last hug before he dashed out the door, keys in hand.

He stopped at the door of his car, shivering as the cold wind blew around him. He dug his phone out of his pocket and punched in Tina's number, sighing as he listened to the dial tone.

Tina's muffled voice came over the line, "Sam?"

"Yeah...hey Tina. Look, I'm picking you up right now...there's somewhere we gotta be. It's...it's about Blaine."

Tina groaned over the phone, "Why do you think I care about Blaine anymore? He screwed everything up and he hurt Kurt really badly, so why do you think I care about what's going on with him?"

"Tina. Tina, seriously. He tried to kill himself tonight, okay? We need to get over there right now."

The line went silent for a minute, and Sam was checking the screen to make sure Tina was still on the line when her shaky voice filled the frigid air, "A-are you...are you serious? That couldn't be...he wouldn't...no, he wouldn't do that."

"Yeah Tina, I'm serious," Sam replied bitterly. "Finn called me a few minutes ago and told me, asked me to get a hold of everyone and give them the news. God, why would I kid about something like that?"

"Oh my God, I-I'm sorry Sam. I'll, uh, I'll be waiting for you," Tina replied, sniffling sounds obvious over the phone.

Sam sighed as he hung up the phone and hopped in the car. He didn't know how to feel right now, but he hoped to God that they wouldn't be too late.

Sam arrived at Tina's house quickly and honked the horn when he pulled into the driveway. Tina came out a few minutes later, frantically pulling on her coat. She had a tissue in one hand and was dabbing at the tears flowing down her cheeks. She hoped the door shakily and sat down shoutgun, giving Sam a glance.

The ride passed mostly in a tense silence. Truth be told, Sam was still mad at Tina for what she'd done to Blaine. She'd outed the whole cheating scandal to the rest of the Glee Club and had convinced everyone that Blaine was the enemy. This was her fault, not his. He'd wanted to help, but Blaine just kept shutting him out. It wasn't his fault. And now, Tina had the audacity to cry over this. A day ago, if asked about Blaine, Tina would have made some seething remark on cheaters and infidelity and about how horrible he was. Now she was crying...like she cared if he was going to be okay. Tina get sending glances Sam's way, hoping that maybe he'd say something. He didn't say anything.

Sam and Tina arrived at Brittany's house quickly, thanks to Sam's speedy driving. He'd decided against calling Brit, it didn't seem like the right thing to do. How was he supposed to tell his sweet, innocent girlfriend that "one of her unicorns" might be dead or dying. He closed his eyes and let out a shaking breath, looking over at Tina.

"I'll be right back..."

Sam slammed the car door shut and jogged up to the door. He pulled out his phone and texted Brit.

I'm outside your door, come down. 3 Sam

He continued jogging in place on the doorstep, rubbing his hands together to try to get some feeling back in them. It was freezing outside. He nearly sighed in relief when she opened the door and a blast of warm air hit him.

"Sammy? What are you doing here?" Brittany asked, yawning and rubbing her eyes despite how early it was.

"Uh, can I talk to your parents for a sec? We need to go somewhere..."

Brittany called her mom down, and Sam explained everything to her in a low whisper, not wanting Brit to hear the whole thing. He couldn't tell her what was really going on and how serious this was, at least not yet. The older woman nodded, giving her daughter a quick kiss on the forehead before Sam led her out of the house.

Brittany got in the backseat of the car, pulling her puffy coat tighter around her. Her eyes widened when she saw a puffy eyed Tina in the front seat.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

"Um, we're going to the hospital Brit. Blaine...Blaine wasn't feeling so well, he's sick and we need to go visit and see if he's okay." Sam began uncertainly, trying to swallow past the lump in his throat.

Brittany's face fell immediately and his lower lip started to tremble, "I-is he gonna be okay?"

Sam gave Tina a knowing sideways glance before assuring Brittany that Blaine should be okay. It was a lie. He didn't know if Blaine was even going to survive this, he didn't know if he was dead right now or not. And even if he managed to pull through, he most certainly wouldn't be okay. These past few months had broken him, Sam knew for a fact that his best friend wouldn't be the same if he woke up. Sam shook the thoughts out of his head though, gripping the steering wheel even tighter. He couldn't think like that. Blaine was going to be fine. He was going to pull through and he would get the help he needed and maybe he'd even get back together with Kurt. Everything was going to be fine, right?

So one of the reasons I haven't been updating this story is because of lack of feedback. I have no idea if people actually like this story, and I'm not used to the Glee fanfiction community, so yeah...feedback would be greatly appreciated at the moment. Suggestions on where to go from here are welcome too.

See you soon and I promise the next chapter will be better!
