Daryl Dixon got that feeling in the bottom of his stomach that said this was a bad idea, and the nagging voice in the back of his head was telling him it was bound to end badly, but Merle had already placed him in the front seat of their Daddy's old pick up; and as the eldest Dixon brother climbed into the passenger seat and shut the squeaky door behind him, Daryl knew they'd reached the point of no return.

He shifted uncomfortably in the driver's seat, his skinny seven-year-old legs barely able to reach the pedals; he could reach with the tip of his toes, the ends of his muddy shoes only just able to graze the pedals while his fingertips curled around the wheel.
"Can't reach, short stuff?" Merle chuckled, observing his younger brother's attempts to stretch his limbs long enough, his toes searching for the pedals.
"Shut up, 'm focusin'" He demanded, scowling and flicking the steering wheel of the car in a pitiful attempt to turn it. "Merle, this is stupid." Daryl concluded, rising so he could comfortably slouch in the chair; not noticing the devilish grin on Merle's face.

He was rummaging around the junk in the glove compartment as Merle prepared the car for Daryl's 'driving lesson'. The sound of the duct tape being stretched across something was all Daryl's ears could receive.
"Merle, I dunno I wanna drive." Daryl pouted, twisting the leg of an old action figure around and making punching noises.
"'Course ya do, baby brother; ever seen a guy what can't drive?" Merle tore off another strip of duct tape as his younger brother thought.
"S'pose, Merle; I don't think that's what ya s'posed to use the books for." Daryl trailed off, observing as his brother taped a book or two to the pedals.
"You plannin' on readin' 'Pride 'n' Prejudice' any time soon?" The eldest of the Dixon's brother asked with a mocking tone before allowing his brother to scramble back into the driver's seat.

The car hadn't yet been moved out of park, Daryl always got these feelings in his belly when something was going to go wrong, and he felt like his breakfast was going to end up all over Merle's lap; he disregarded the feeling and instead put his hands on the wheel, gripping it with all his might.
"I think I have homework!" Daryl cried as Merle reached for the keys.
"Since when do you do homework anyway?" Merle retorted, rolling his eyes at his brother's feeble attempt to get out of driving. "Look, drivin' is easy, ya just steer the wheel were ya wanna go and press on the pedals!" Merle instructed the younger of the duo as he bought the car to life.

"Uh-Oh," Daryl mumbled as he crawled out of the car. "How come the car didn't stop?" He pondered aloud, furrowing his brow and directing a glance toward his (seemingly) knowledgeable brother.
"'Cause ya didn't hit the break, ya hit the God-damn accelerator." Merle pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head. Never Again.

Daryl was snapped back to the present by the frantic shouting of the young Korean man beside him as the car skidded around a sharp turn and bounced over a walker body on the road.
"Daryl! Where the hell did you learn to drive?!"
A knowing smile tugged at the redneck's lips.
