Zexion remained seated on the sand, watching the two blondes in the ocean and waiting for Axel to come back. Despite what he wanted to feel, he couldn't help but feel lonely once the redhead got up and left. Usually he didn't mind being alone, but for some reason he didn't want to know he wanted Axel back beside him. And he hated that. Zexion only ever missed the company of Roxas and that was only when he needed the blonde at his side.
He started digging his nails into his arm, pulling his legs closer, shortly before Axel came back and sat down beside him. Zexion quickly stopped with his nails to take the plastic wrapped ice cream bar offered to him. He still wasn't sure why Axel had bothered to go and get the ice cream. Maybe he was trying to make up for before? Or actually just wanted to be nice?
"Thanks," he said as he started to slowly open the wrapping. "I can pay you back once we get to the house again."
Axel raised an eyebrow while taking a bite of his own ice cream bar. "Why would you do that?" he questioned.
"Because I owe you the money?" Zexion offered, finally looking at the other. "Why wouldn't I?"
"Because I decided to buy you the ice cream," Axel answered. "You don't owe me anything. But I would take a kiss if you really want to pay me back," he said with a smirk, taking another bite. Zexion only glared at him before turning his attention away, his eyes landing on Roxas as he and Demyx walked over to them.
Roxas fell to his knees beside Zexion. "You two got ice cream? No fair," he whined, eying the ice cream in his friend's hand. Zexion bent his wrist towards the blonde, allowing him to eat some which Roxas gladly did, taking a small bite off the bar. "Hm, something's not right," he muttered before quickly leaning in and catching his friend's lips with his own. Without hesitation he slipped his tongue pass their lips, tasting the other's tongue and mouth. Once satisfied he pulled back. "That's better," he said and sat back on his knees.
"So you two aren't dating?" Axel asked. "Because it looks like you are."
Zexion quickly turned back to the redhead, now remembering him there beside him and blushing slightly. "No, we're not dating," he answered. "We're just friends."
"With benefits," Roxas added, leaning in. "Other than that we're both single. Maybe even desperately in Zexion's case," he said, earning himself a glare from his friend.
"Now I want to be your friend even more," the redhead said, smirking again. "It sounds like fun."
Rolling his eyes, Zexion took one more bite of his ice cream before passing it to Roxas to have. The blonde ate it and got up to go back to the water once more with Demyx before they had to get back to the house. While the two were in the water, Zexion and Axel remained seated in the sand. Axel was biting the end of his ice cream stick, occasionally glancing at the other and wondering whether or not to try and talk to him again. He didn't until they were getting up to leave.
As Roxas and Demyx passed them, announcing that they were going to use the showers real quick, they stood up and started dusting the sand off their clothes. An idea came to his head and without giving a second thought about it, Axel reached over, using his hand to dust sand off the back of the other's upper thigh. The sudden touch made Zexion take a quick step away and look at the redhead in surprise.
"What are you doing?" he asked.
"Nothing, just thought I'd help you," Axel answered with a shrug and small smirk.
"I don't need help," Zexion said, taking one more step back and dusting the rest of the sand off himself.
Roxas and Demyx came back soon after and they all made their way back to the house. Zexion made sure to keep a small distance from Axel as he walked with Roxas, but he could still feel the redhead's eyes on him while they walked to the bus stop. The bus ride was mostly just Demyx talking to Axel, the redhead half-heartedly paying attention as he looked over at Zexion any time his friend wouldn't notice. Zexion and Roxas were mostly quiet, whispering when they did talk to each other.
When they got back to the house Zexion quickly went to his room with Roxas and shut the door. He avoided leaving the room unless he had to as to steer clear of the possibility of running into Axel around the house. By the time Roxas had to go back to his own house, Zexion was left alone to entertain himself. He got up to find something to do. Picking a book off his desk, he opened the cover and flipped to the page he left off of, only to sigh and set it back down. He wasn't in the mood to read.
He went to pick up his iPod, but stopped at a knock on his door. Walking to the door he slowly opened it, unsure of who would be there. Maybe Demyx to tell him dinner was ready, even though the blonde would have called the information to him through the door like usual. It also couldn't be Roxas since he would carelessly come in and not bother to knock. That only left one other person other than his parents, who never came to his door, and Zexion was slightly confused as to why Axel stood at his door.
"Yes?" he asked.
"We still have some questions left, if you want to use them," Axel answered.
"We asked five questions already," Zexion pointed out.
"Not five each," the redhead said. "You still have three left and I have two. How about you start," he offered, moving to lean against the doorway.
Zexion let out a small sigh while thinking over questions he could ask. "What's your favorite type of music?" he decided on asking, looking up at the redhead for his answer.
"Pop and rock," Axel said after a short moment. "What's your favorite movie genre?"
"Horror. Do you play any instruments?"
"A little of guitar," the redhead answered, leaning down slightly. "Can I kiss you before I go?" The question threw Zexion off and he blinked while letting it register in his head. He wanted to step back and shut the door, but instead found himself unable to move from where he stood and nodding in answer. He remained still as Axel leaned in closer, gently kissing him before pulling away. "See you later than," he said with a smile before walking down the hall to the stairs.
Once he was out of sight, Zexion stepped back into his room and gently closed the door, leaning on it for a moment until walking back to his desk and picking up his iPod. He went to his bed and lied down, putting the ear buds in and starting the music, turning it up to block out all other noises.
Kind of short, but I'm happy with it.
