Authors Notes: I want to warn everyone that in this chapter there will be depictions of self harm. If this offends you or you do not wish to read it I suggest skipping the first portion of this chapter. I also want to say this chapter and many from here on out will delve into the subject of witchcraft. Once again, if this offends you, do not read this. It is my story and I will do with it as I please. Flames will be used as fuel to keep on writing ;) ~Love Shatara. (oh and btw I use some latin in this book, so I will be using google translate for that part. If anyone has any corrections on it I would gladly change it to the correct tense as google translate isn't exactly accurate in latin.)
Disclaimer: I do not own Twilight or any characters affiliated with it. I DO however own this story and my Siobhan (the Irish clan probably won't make an appearance here)
My second day of school was pretty boring. It was also the first day Edward Cullen did not show up for English class. Bella must have done something really bad to him. Today we were told some interesting information, because of an incident down in La Push a few of their residents are being moved up here to attend our school. Bella and I are really hoping for Jacob at least. Something was different about Jake. That much I could tell just from my first encounter with him. I instantly thought back to the book I found talking about Jacob Black's pack. I quickly disregarded that notion as it was impossible as was the Cullen's here being vampires. I mean they don't look like any vampire I've ever seen. That day went by very fast after that however.
It was now really early Wednesday morning, a lot earlier than normal for me to get up. I sighed to myself. I looked over to the clock and noticed it was two-thirty in the morning. I sat up cross-legged while rubbing my temples. Everything happened so fast. I miss my friends. I miss my old school. I miss the warmth of L.A. Everything is so... green here. It gets a little sickening after a while. I sighed once more before standing up. I got out from beneath the two layers of covers, letting the cool air caress my skin. I hated the cold. Standing up I stretched, feeling my joints pop in ever so pleasing ways, and yawned. I walked down stairs, stepping lightly to avoid awaking my mother. I walked into the kitchen and sat down in a cold chair. My now dull red hair was messy and as I held up my head with my hands I felt the strands dancing across my skin creating goosebumps in the cold air. I grabbed a small portion of my hair and looked at it.
'I need to re-dye you.' I thought to myself.
I stood up and walked over to the sink looking down at the dishes my mom had me clean last night before bed. One thing caught my eye as I looked over it. The only knife left out. It was a large knife that my mother frequently used for cutting up vegetables. It was a little under a foot long. I picked it up noticing it was completely dry. My mind flashed back to my early teen years.
'No Siobhan. We don't want to go back down that road.' I tried to convince myself, but I missed the feeling of the blade slicing through my skin as it erased all the pain in my mind; It left me with a blissfully numb feeling.
I finally gave in and took the knife upstairs into my bathroom. Once again, creeping quietly as to avoid awaking mother. As soon as I was in my bathroom and the light was on I shut and locked the door. I looked at myself in the mirror. I was a mess. My hair was disheveled, and I had bags under my eyes. I looked a lot better than I felt however. I set the knife on the sink and set about putting towels on the floor.
'I need to be able to easily clean up a mess, just in case.' I thought, thinking of what would happen if my mom came in.
I grabbed the knife once more.
'Don't over do it again Siobhan, you don't want to go to a hospital again.' I told myself bringing the knife closer to my skin.
I made the first shallow cut. It stung a little, but I needed more. I made a second deeper cut. That one felt good. I made a third, then a fourth. I soon ran out of preset out room on my left arm and switched the knife to my other hand. My fourteenth cut was the first cut on the right arm. After five minutes I set the knife down and looked at my work. I scoffed. Looks like my slight OCD likes to show up here as well. Twenty-eight perfect cuts, fourteen on each arm. I started to feel a bit light-headed so I set about cleaning the wounds. I felt so satisfied in the blissfully numb state I was in. The water caused the cuts to sting, but once again the feeling was welcomed. After cleaning the wounds I opened the mirror/cupboard and grabbed two of my wrappable elastic bandages. The strips were only two inches wide and they were both twelve feet long. I wrapped up my arms tightly. Luckily I had stopped bleeding so it wouldn't be noticeable through the bandages. After tying the second one I left the bathroom. I looked at the clock and saw it was only 3:25.
'What to do for two hours?' I asked myself.
I decided to study that mysterious black book again. I went over to my drawer and dug underneath all my shirts and pulled my little lockable portable safe and grabbed the book from it. I wore the necklace I found constantly, only ever taking it off to clean it, while I sleep, and to take a shower. I grabbed it from my nightstand and put it on. As I sat back on the bed I tried opening the book, only to find myself unable. I then remembered it required blood to access it.
'Once again, what a strange contraption.' I thought to myself as I pricked my finger and watched as the book collected my blood.
It popped open allowing me to read it. I skimmed through it again, still finding it hard to believe. I found a page that read "Nobis ignis" Invocation of Fire in Latin. I knew how to read it as I had taken three years of Latin so far, and was hoping to take a fourth. It depicted how the spell was supposed to work and the more and more I read the more and more curious I got. It appears that 'magick' as the book spelled can be conjured in many forms, different for each person. Some had to use vocal cues, but more powerful witches had the ability to use magick just by thinking it.
'It couldn't possibly hurt to try right? Ah what the hell.' I said finally giving in to my curiosity. 'Let's just hope curiosity doesn't kill this kitty.'
I held out my hand in a cupped fashion and began to concentrate on the center of my palm. I imagined heat circling faster and faster as the book had instructed. I felt a jolt of electricity run through my body as in the center of my hand a ball of fire appeared. It was floating in the air mere inches away from my hand. I couldn't believe it. I summoned fire. I actually fucking summoned fire. I was suddenly aware that everything around me was very flammable. So I looked into the book for a way to extinguish the flame without catching anything on fire. The book didn't say anything so taking a big risk I simply closed my hand. Amazingly the fire died out, as did the heat. I reopened my hand and looked at the spot where the flame had been not moments before. There was no damage to my skin. I was suddenly afraid.
'This shouldn't be possible.' I thought to myself.
My curiosity needing to be quenched I flipped through a few more pages and found one that said "Ventus Ululatas" Howling of the Wind in latin. The book said I needed to be outside for this spell to work. I sighed to myself, not wanting to go downstairs and outside and risk my mom seeing me with the book. I then recalled that my window has a section of roof under it. I got up and walked over to my window. I set the book on the table next to me and unlatched the locking mechanism and opened my window. I instantly felt the cold air invade my room chilling me to my core. Ignoring it I grabbed the book and crawled through the window to the roof outside. I looked around seeing if there was a breeze already. Surprisingly there wasn't, it was just cold. I looked down at the book, took a deep breath, and began to focus deeply.
The harder I focused the more my head began to more I questioned my own sanity. Finally I felt the jot run through me again and suddenly there was a sudden shift in the trees a ways away before I felt a gust of wind hit me. Cold, I thought to myself 'I wish I wouldn't blow directly on me,' and I felt the wind's direction shift. Done messing with this stuff today I imagined the wind dissipating and it did so as a third jolt ran through me.
"This is impossible." I said aloud to myself.
I looked over at the clock. It was 3:53. I sat back down on my bed. I flipped through the book once more. I was about to stop for the night when I came across a certain spell that intrigued me. "Lumen Solis," Light of the Sun in latin. I read a bit and this spell came with a description. It read:
"This spell is meant to bring out the Sun and generally warm your surrounding. This spell will not work if it is night-time. This spell will also not work if the Sun is already out. I decided to put the book away for now in the small safe. I put the book in it before depositing it back in its hidey spot. It was now 4:00 and my mom should be waking up soon, so I decided to get ready for school. I settled on taking a shower first. I removed the bandages, finding I had bled a bit in them and those were my only ones I had right now so I'd have to change my outfit a bit. Not dwelling on it I put the two elastic bandages at the bottom of my trash can before taking my shower. Afterwords. I brushed out my messy hair before straightening it. After that was done I went about applying my make-up, going for a smoky eye today I also decided to wear my grey contacts. Afterwords I went into my room and switched out my short sleeve shirt for one of my many long sleeve shirts. I settled on a plain red thermal shirt that covered my entire arms. I also grabbed my jet black skinny jeans. I noticed that they had become a bit big on me. I also settled on my black heeled boots.
'I've lost a bit of weight...' I thought to myself. 'No doubt due to stress.'
I walked downstairs, looking into the kitchen to see my mom cooking breakfast before I went over to the television. I turned it over to the news. It said it was going to be cold today.
'No fucking duh.' I said to myself. 'It's always cold here.'
They then began talking about the killings going on over the past few weeks.
"That's right folks, there's been another killing. This time it was a local couple found dead in their home. The bodies of Jonathon and Sarah McGeller were found in their home early yesterday. The police have again not given any pictures out saying that it is too graphic to show the general public. Police had originally showed up at the couple's place when workers from both of their job sites had called in saying they hadn't seen or heard from the pair in a few days. Both people were generally never late to their job sites and even when one of them was sick they would call in and alert someone. The police questioned a few of their friends and none of them had any clue who would want to hurt the pair. They were loved by many and will be missed by all. This is the fifth killing within the past three weeks and cops are struggling to keep up. Let's all just hope that the police apprehend the killer or killers swiftly. Now let's go over to our weather man David Collins."
"Thank you Melinda. Today folks the roads are gonna be icy, so you better drive safely..."
I zoned out after that.
'Six murders in three weeks that's real strange for a small town like this. I just hope my mom stays safe.' I thought to myself.
"Siobhan breakfast is ready!" I heard my mom call.
I quickly got up and walked over to the table. Breakfast was short, and before I knew it I heard Bella outside.
"Bye mom, I love you!" I said as I ran out the door.
"Bye sweetie!" she yelled back.
I quickly hopped in the truck and we were off.
"Did you see the news this morning?" I heard Bella ask.
I immediately knew what she was talking about.
"It's crazy. Six murders in three weeks. People these days are literally insane!" I said thinking of what those people must have felt as their lives were torn away.
I shuddered at the mere thought of it.
"Has your dad been there at most of the killings?" I asked.
"He's been there for all of them so far. Every time he went to one he'd come home and be silent the rest of the night. He wouldn't even eat, he'd just walk right up to his room and stay there. I never went in cause I figured he was dealing with it the best way he could, and I don't really want to know how he's doing. Especially if he's hitting the bottle again." She said solemnly.
"Yeah I know what you mean. I just hope my mom and I don't get caught up in it. You know? I'd hate to lose her. I already don't know my dad. She's all I got left. Well she's the only one left that hasn't deserted me due to my... questionable fashion choices that make me look like a quote unquote Satanist."
"That sucks. Well they'll get what's coming to them. Besides they're missing out on getting to know someone who's pretty awesome."
"Aww Bells. You're gonna make me blush." I said goofing around.
We laughed together. The rest of the ride was relatively quiet up until we pulled into the school parking lot. Instantly we saw three new cars, and we both knew who they belonged to. Mainly because the owners were leaning up against them. I tried to see who they were but my nearsightedness made it where they all just looked like a blur. That's the sad thing about my contacts. Unfortunately they aren't prescription, and I hate wearing glasses, but I do when I have to. I carry them in my backpack. I decided to leave it alone and just wait until we got out of the truck.
"Let's go greet our new school mates." I said smiling deviously, hoping Jacob was one of them.
We both got out together and I remembered the cuts on my arms and I pulled the sleeves down a bit holding them down with my fingers. We walked in the direction that everyone seemed to be avoiding. The only sound that could be heard was the clicking of my boot heels. Finally in sight I saw Jacob was among the crowd and he appeared to be chatting with a man who was strangely slightly taller than him.
"I didn't think it was possible for someone to be taller than Jake. I mean come on dude's tall as hell." I whispered to Bella as we approached.
Jake looked over to us as we got closer. He smiled as we finally stopped in front of him.
"So Jake... been causing trouble?" I ask smiling mischievously.
"Ha! Well you know how it is. Siobhan, Bella these here are a my good friends. Sam," he motioned to the one who was slightly taller than him. "Paul, and Jared." He said smiling his goofy smile.
"So what happened?" I asked curious.
"Nothing really, they just thought it would be best that some of us go to school here. Or at least that's what they told us."
"That's strange." Bella said.
"Indeed." I agreed.
I pulled out my phone to check the time, noting it was five minutes until the bell rang.
"Come on, schools about to start." I said while walking towards the door.
"Wait! I forgot my bag!" Bella said before running over to her truck.
'Shit so did I!' I thought to myself.
"Wait Bella!" I said running after her.
As we got to her truck I looked over to my left seeing Edward at the other side of the parking lot. I was about to go over to my side which she just unlocked before I heard the worst sound in the world. The sound of tires spinning out of control. I looked up a moment too late when I saw the truck coming my way and a van coming Bella's way. In about the time it took me to blink I noticed Edward disappear from where he was previously standing. Then I felt it hit me. I felt and saw everything. I felt the entire force of the car tear my bones apart in slow motion. I saw the face of the man behind the wheel go from scared to mortified. I saw the van on Bella's side stop suddenly and I felt all of my bones snapping. My life flashing before my eyes. Then my head hit the ground and everything was black.
