Clark Kent sat at his desk late at night, running through his pitch to his boss.
You see, Clark needed to go on a few field trips, across the USA.
It had started a few days ago when the article research he'd used his superhuman vision to peek at was published.
The idea of meeting other people with similar missions to his own was really appealing, but the consequences could be disastrous. The response from earth to the battle of Metropolis had largely been fear, some directed only at the invaders, some directed at every alien involved. His birth father had told him he was meant to be a symbol for humanity, and now he was...
Assuming these people existed; bringing them into the open right now could make them targets for that fear, would they even want to reveal themselves, would they see him as a threat?
On the other hand, working together, a group could accomplish so much, especially if the earth as a whole was attacked again.
On top of this, moving between city's had to be done carefully. Flying would attract far too much attention, so he had to travel as Clark, hence his problem.
"Hey, Kent, we've got an assignment"
The problem with his super hearing training was that he could be surprised when he was tired, concentrating...
"Ms Lane?"
"The urban legend article went down so well the boss wants a series on it, but the author's stuck covering Lexcorp for the next few weeks, so we get the job.
"Didn't the article use all the research already" Kent asks, hoping that the response would be...
"That's why we've going travelling, visit sighting locations, do interviews, a few days in each city, you know, journalist stuff.
Her teasing tone of voice made him smile, even with all his powers; here he was being "schooled" by a human.
"When do we start Ms Lane?"
"We fly to Central City (quick glance at the clock) later this morning, tickets are taken care of. So go home, get some sleep, I'll see you at the airport check in at 11"
"Got it, goodnight Ms Lane"
"Night Kent"
As he went home, Clark started to think of how he could approach the Blur.
Wait for him to intervene in a crime?
Try to find his out his identity?
Get a message and try to set up a meeting?
Then it hit him, like he hit mugger who tried his luck on the wrong guy...
Metropolis Airport
Clark Kent checked his watch, nearly 11, she was nearly here...
"Morning Kent"
"Morning Ms Lane"
"Ever flown before"
Ha. Ha. Ha.
"A few times Ms Lane"
"Get air sick"
Really Louise...
"No Ms Lane"
"Good, well lets go"
Mid Flight
"Got a plan for your end Kent?" Louise asks
"Yeah, it needs to be done carefully, but I think it's the best way"
"Well just remember the stakes, if this works it could make you"
Clark wondered whether she meant his job at the Daily Planet, or if she'd also thought about the potential of meeting these people.
Either way, no pressure.
