sorry I haven't updated in a while I've been so busy with school, track(we won state again), we had a dance for my grade, family stuff, etc. I'm so tired I haven't slept for more than 3 hours a night in the past month, so I apologize if something is wrong or doesn't make sense.
'Morning Beautiful, sorry I got upset with you last night. I'll be out on an assignment today. See you tonight babe. Hopefully you could forgive me and we can make-up tonight. Xoxo' was the note that was found at her bedside table this morning.
She rushed out of bed to her bathroom, tossing the note in the trash in the process. After discarding her clothes, she turned on the hot water and got in, not waiting for water it to heat up.
"Are you here with me?" She asked softly. There was no one with her.
"Hello?" Olivia called out. "I know you're here. I need all the mind games to stop. You're the one giving me all the nightmares," She added in a hoarse voice.
"There isn't any way out."
"Well, you better find one," Olivia demanded.
"Sorry it's not up to me. It's up to you." It answered.
"What?"
"How do you know this isn't a nightmare?" Olivia heard a throaty deep voice speak again.
"Because my dream last night was Brian hurting me. And look, no scratch… anywhere," As the suds out of her hair were rinsed out, she smirked. Idiot.
"You can call me an idiot all you want," the smirk was rinsed off her face, "but answer this. If I only show up in dreams, and I'm here now then… then isn't this a dream? Look truth is, life is a nightmare and you can't wake up from it… or this until you know what you want" The voice replied. Olivia turned off the faucet and exited the shower. She quickly grabbed a towel from a closet and wrapped it around her.
"So… what are you saying? I'm in a coma until I figure out what I want? Which is?" She asked combing her wavy hair roughly.
"No. Not exactly. There are two universes. You are transported two each by sleep. There's a universe where you end up with Brian and another with… Elliot," it said unsure if Elliot should be mentioned.
She stopped combing her hair and just looked at the mirror, "Why Elliot? I haven't seen him in three years."
"You remember what happened yesterday don't you?" The man asked incredulously.
"No. And if it has anything to do with him, don't fill me in… Wait, the dream I had this morning-. The universe I was in… Is that what happened?" She started combing her hair with rougher strokes.
"No. That is far from what actually happened," It sighed.
"Why do you always take so long in the morning?" It complained before she could ask another question.
"Calm down! It's been like 7 minutes," She snapped back. Then something unordinary happened. The sound of someone snapping their fingers sounded and Olivia gasped. Her hair was straightened, and her makeup done. With another snap she was dressed. She wore a grey blazer and a purple shirt underneath to go with her grey slacks and boots.
"So not only can you speak but you can take away my privilege to wear what I want. Anything else you want to tell me?" She asked sarcastically, looking at herself in the mirror. She looked good.
"You're welcome, Sweetheart," An attractive man said sitting on her bathroom counter, "Now we need to get going. Some of us have work today." He smirked and walked out to the living room. "Very cool," Olivia nods and walks out the door with him.
Before they got to the precinct, they went over the basics of his existence and different forms. When they got to their destination, Curtis, that's what he said his name was, went back to his natural form. As she sat down at her desk that was in front beside her partner, Nick, he looked up at her like she was missing something.
"Did you forget something?" He asked putting his pen down.
"Um…"She didn't finish.
"Sometimes each reality goes on without you actually being there. Meaning you might not know or remember little things that go on," Curtis filled her in.
"Yea. Where's my stuff?" The empty desk confusing her.
"Oh. After you refused to move desks along with switching partners, Captain ordered me to move your desk over there," He pointed to her old spot lazily, "and switch one of the desks out."
"Why am I switching partners? Did I do something wrong?"
"Are you ok?" Nick asked.
"Why wouldn't I be...ok?" Her narrowed eyes matching his. Before he pressed on Elliot walked into the bullpen and sat across from the desk Nick pointed to earlier. Olivia's fiery stare followed his every move. She watched as he put his suit jacket on the back of his chair. Watched his arm reach to his computer; roll his sleeves up. Like he used to.
"Liv," Nick speaks touching her upper arm.
"Um, I'll be right back," She replied in a whisper. She swiftly passes her partners and into Captain's office. The slam of the door gets his attention.
"Problem?" The Captain asked slamming his pen to the table, mocking her anger.
"What is...he doing here?" She asked not even willing to say Elliot at this point.
"Olivia, we've talked about this. There is nothing you can say or do, Elliot stays," Cragen told her picking up his pen, meaning their conversation was over.
"Until, what? He decides his job isn't good enough for him… again?" She challenged adding her signature smirk.
"That's enough, Detective," Cragen replied in annoyance.
"Fine," Olivia muttered and headed towards the door, then it dawned upon her, the reason she actually came in here, the million dollar question. She turned back to her Captain and asked:
"Well, who's my partner now?" Olivia questioned in a soft voice, mostly to herself; she already knew the answer.
"Elliot," Cragen reveals softly, matching her pitch. He knew he had to go easy on her; he just ripped off a Band-Aid that has had to be replaced over and over, throughout the past three years. Olivia nods slowly looking at down to her feet then quietly exits the tiny room suffocating her.
Second by second, her distress twisted into anger. She just wanted to punch, kick, slap something, anything at all. So much anger was building inside her; she could go on a rampage throughout the city. When she plopped into her chair in front of her partner she looked up to find him intensely staring back at her.
"What?" She snapped raising her eyebrows.
"Uh, nothing," He goes back to his computer.
"Well, I'd appreciate it if you would stop staring at me," She continues.
"Sure thing."
"Thanks, El," She spits out like poison. He turned his attention back to her to receive an innocent looking smile. He took their interaction all in.
"Olivia, I have already apologized to you. What else you want from me? My wallet? Because let me tell you, you won't be gaining much." He reciprocated then smiles. He thinks a laugh can make everything better? All the late nights of crying over him just mysteriously fade away?
"Gimme your watch," She demands.
"Are you seriously? This watch would make everything okay between us?" He asks incredulously.
"Of course what else could you give me? Like you said you apologized already!" She reasoned sarcastically.
"Here take it." He said standing up taking it off then placing it on her desk. That pissed her off the most. How he could just waltz into his old job and his old life and think it was ok. Ok for him to do, say, or act anyway he wanted to. Ok for them to pick back up on their friendship where he dropped it. That's not how it works with her. Ever.
"Just because it seems like we're ok and things are normal doesn't mean it's that way. I just want you to know that," Olivia tells him walking away, returning his watch in the process.
"Olivia," Elliot calls, pursuing her to the cribs only to be stopped by Fin.
"Elliot, you left and it was hard for her at first. You can't just walk into her life again and follow her around demanding for her to listen to your half-assed excuses and expect her to forgive you. She needs some space to process it all,"
"I appreciate the advice Fin but, I think I know what I'm doing," He brushes Fin off and keeps going for Olivia. Fin catches up with him at the stairs connecting the bullpen to cribs.
"We both know why you came back," Fin whispers harshly, "I'm just saying don't jump right to it." And that being all he had to say, Fin walks back to his desk. Shaking his head as Elliot ran up the stairs two steps at a time.
