Here is the next chapter! Just short and silly!
Bedside Confessions: Kate
Kate can't help, but notice that Abby is eyeing her suspiciously and she knows she can easily fake the woman out, but she would prefer not to because Abby is her best friend and she doesn't want to have to lie to her anymore than she already has in the past.
"Abby, you have to help me! I think I just agreed to stay with DiNozzo, once I'm released from the hospital," the Goth has stopped her chatty happy stance and stops at the end of the hospital bed. The black haired woman grips the hospital bed and from what Kate can tell the scientist is trying to stop herself from throwing herself on the bed. Abby is so transparent and it makes Kate smile because she really wish she could be like that. Abby wears her heart on her sleeve and Kate really wishes she could be that trusting in the world around her, but things in the past have shown her that the world sometimes takes advantage of people who let their emotions govern their entire being. Kate knows she has been burned too many times to really show every emotion she truly feels on her face.
"What, oh my gosh, Kate?!" the enthusiasm is back, Kate just shrugs with a small smile, that she is sure if she let it light up her face it would cause her to blush uncontrollably.
"Did you finally figure out that you two are completely perfect for each other?!" Abby for a second looks like an overly happy caricature from one of the scientist's Manga books.
"Wait, what? Abbs, did you just say, finally figure out?" Kate eyes widened and the brown eyed woman giggles. She has this sneaking suspicion she knows what Abby is talking about.
"Kate, you and Tony were dancing around each other for the first two years you worked at NCIS and you have had more sexual tension in the last month than I thought was possible for two people to have without giving in and having crazy sex in the office!" Abby says all of this and then Kate can see the realization dawn on the younger woman's face.
"You totally didn't deny it! Kate!" Kate loves Abby because the woman always knows how to make her smile and that is something she had missed for the last two years, but come on when did the younger woman become so damn perceptive? All Kate has been doing for the last few moments is sitting quietly while Abby processed the information with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm sorry I was just shocked by your statement is all," she gives a calm nod and clears her face of any emotion. Abby gives her a yeah right look and she knows Abby assumption is correct because she would have normally stopped Abby before she had even gotten started and given her a speech about she and Tony being like brother and sister, who can't stand each other.
"Apparently, DiNozzo, just wants to be able to poke fun at me, at any hour of the day," she gives a small chuckle. She feels pretty happy with herself for pulling that one out of nowhere, she thanks her short time at OSP. She knows a good portion of what she says is true because Tony has always been one to poke fun at her and she has always done it in return.
"Okay, Kate I may not be a special agent or trained to read people, but come on, Tony DiNozzo would not do this for just anyone. So even though we are team and you two are friends why is he doing this?" Kate gives a heavy sigh, contemplating whether to tell the other woman.
"Okay, I'm going to tell you something, but you are going to have to promise not to freak out. Tony told me he loves me," she bites her lip and smiles softly at the other woman waiting for the woman to react. Again Abby's expression reflects that of a caricature with its eyes sticking out and a slacked jaw.
After jumping around for a bit and squealing the scientist launches herself at Kate and with a chuckle Kate scoots over in the hospital bed for the overexcited woman. She isn't really scared of Abby hurting her, but she doesn't really want to pull her surgical scar.
"So tell me everything! Did you say it back?" Abby eagerness honestly tickles Kate because only Abby could defy the stereotype of her clothing and the fact that she drives a hearse and sleeps in a coffin.
"I don't know what to tell you, Abbs. He came in and we bickered like always. Then he got really serious and he just told me how he felt. He told me how much he had been hurting after I died and that he had hidden it from everyone including himself and then he told me that he loved me, that he was in love with me and that everything made sense now that I was back. It made my heart stop because I never thought Anthony 'player' DiNozzo Jr. could love me. I lied to you back when you asked me whether I had feelings for Tony back before I got shot two years ago because I was scared of what it meant. It would be the second time I let what I felt for one of my co-workers affect my job. But I got shot again, Abby and because of it put things in perspective especially since I was falling for Tony back then and then this last month and a half made me realize that even though Tony is a sexist pig who takes every opportunity to tease me, he still is a sweet man, whom I love with my whole heart. I knew I really loved him when he thought he was going to die of hemorrhagic fever," Kate watches Abby as the woman's eye gleam with unshed happy tears and Kate really wants to let her tears of joy fall from eyes.
"Oh, my god, crap," Abby spites out after a long moment and even though Kate has known her for years she has no idea where the scientist head is at the current moment. The woman is truly all over the place with her thoughts.
"What is it Abby, did you forget you were testing a sample back in your lab?" she asks with a shake of the head and a laugh.
"No, I owe Ziva a hundred bucks," Kate raises eyebrow because the Mossad Officer must have bought Abby a lot of meals here at the hospital and out to east during the last couple of weeks for the total to run up that high.
"A hundred bucks for what?!" Abby lets out a happy chuckle and looks down at her black fingernails as if not wanting to reveal the next piece of information. Kate knows she can get it out of the scientist pretty easily, but she can tell the woman will tell her no matter what.
"Ziva, McGee, Palmer, and I bet how long it would take you and Tony to get your act together," Kate puts her hands over her eyes and shakes her head. Kate doesn't even know why she is surprised, she guesses her fellow team members needed something to focus on rather than all the death and desecration they see almost only a daily basis.
"So how long did you say?" she asks after a long moment of taking in the information. She didn't think her feelings for Tony was that obvious, but she guesses that it might have been Tony who was showing his hand on accident.
"I said between three and six months. McGee bet that you wouldn't get together for at least a year and Ziva bet that you would get together within the first two months. Jimmy thought that you wouldn't get together at all," her eyes widen and she gives a satisfied smile that Palmer at least had the decency to think they wouldn't risk their jobs.
"Seriously, none of you thought that maybe I wouldn't risk the job that I love for a guy?" she asks as grips for the blanket that now lay entangled at their feet.
"He's not just some guy, he's Tony, the man that you love," the woman smirks at her and Kate resists the opportunity to smack her on the arm, as Abby pokes her in the arm like a three year old.
"I guess, you right," she lays back and relaxes and wraps an arm around the taller woman's shoulder. She relishes in the silence as the two of them snuggle in the small hospital bed. She wonders what a nurse would think if they entered the room to see her curled up with Abby who is currently in a red plaid mini skirt, black skull sweater, and her knee high platform boots that have more metal on them then Kate would think is possible.
"I can't wait to see what your kids are going to look like. They are going to be so cute," Kate glances over at the woman through tired eyes and then they widen after a moment.
"We haven't even gone out on our first date yet, Abbs. One step at a time," Kate can't help the smile rises to her lips as she imagines what her life could be like married to Tony with kids. She will never admit this out loud, but that is exactly what she wants. She knows if they do decide to go down that route it could be hard with their jobs at NCIS, but she did want to get married and have kids. She remembers a morning in the bullpen where she had to pretend to be Tony's wife to get his crazy ex-girlfriend from college to stop calling and they had argued silently about how many kids. She had said two and he said three. She also couldn't help, but laugh because back then she had said she needed a shower after pretending that because she was so disgusted and then she might have been, but now it is sounds kind of nice.
"Wait did you kiss after he told you how he felt?" Kate bites her lip and even though she has been trained lie, she can't stand to lie to the woman. So she simple nods and turns the other way.
"What was it like?" Kate bites her lip and tries to find the right words to tell Abby how amazing it was.
"It was amazing, Abbs, I'm no spring chicken, I've kissed a lot of men in my life, but by far this was the best kiss I ever had, just don't tell him that, I wouldn't want to inflate his ego anymore than it already is," Kate feels the blush that fills her cheeks as she says this because come on it sounds ridiculous.
"Yes if Tony's ego got any larger we wouldn't have room in the office for anyone anymore," Abby has summoned it up perfectly.
