Chapter: 15
A/N: I rushed for this update due to Wolfgirl2013 birthday this week :) hope you like it!
'Claire?' Claire heard her name being called out, she seemed to be in a light room, her body feeling lighter than usual As well. She turned in all directions to find no one.
"Who's there?" She called out while circling around the room looking for the perpetrator who was calling her.
"Claire, come on you remember me?" A light laugh filled the room.
"Well if I had a face it would be much easier to recognise." Claire smiled involuntarily At the innocent laughter.
"There's that beautiful smile." Claire turned to see her late friend, Steve Burnside, her smile subsiding along with her body freezing on eye contact.
"Steve, so it's true." Her voice now filled with sorrow.
"What do you mean?"
"You're not alive anymore..." Steve nodded with an 'oh'.
"Well what did you expect on that island." He laughed trying to humour the sulking girl.
"I'm just glad to see your alive." He smiled towards her.
"If I'm alive, how am I talking to you then?" She raised her head To meet his steel blue eyes.
"Well all I know is that your not dead, and I hope you're not anytime soon."
"Huh, funny thing, sometimes I prefer to be dead-"
"Don't say that," Steve abruptly yelled standing firmly on the flooring. "Don't ever say that."
"Trust me, you have a whole life ahead of you." Claire nodded for Steve to continue, keeping quiet and hearing his thoughts on the situation.
"Shit." He mumbled more to himself.
"What wrong Steve?" Claire asked reaching out for Steve but being rejected as he backed away.
"I can't make contact," He apologised when he saw Claire's frown appear. "There's not that much time left, so I'll make it quick."
"You need to enjoy life, don't look back on anything you do, be happy for something you want, not what other people want you to do." Steve smiled.
"Alright Claire, you have fun, enjoy it because you only get one life, well in your case two." He laughed at his joke on her survival of the undead; his image already leaving Claire's mind, becoming more and more blurred mixed with the darkness.
"Steve!" Claire called out to the fading voice.
"Will I ever see you again?" A muffled reply and with that Claire's eyes opened.
She found herself leaned comfortably against a barked tree.
She rubbed a bit of sleep from her eyes, feeling a cloth around her hand, she looked to see a piece of her black shirt ripped to makes a cast. Claire looked up to see the scenery was a greener one, one that didn't involve leather nor the sound of a humming engine; instead the sweet blissful sound of nature, something she hadn't heard in a while. Seeing the smoke across the river she remembered what had happened. Feeling around her body checking if anything was broken, she stood up, stretching a bit. She went towards the river, getting a look of her reflection, seeing the musty look nature gave her, she cleansed her face. In the middle she remembered her capture, not hearing his voice or sensing his presence made her completely forget about him. She looked back toward the forest to see no one; Her fingers still dipped in the cool river.
"Wesker?" She called out shaking off the small droplets left on her face, water still fresh on her face.
"Wesker?" She called out a bit louder, holding her breath for a response of some sort.
'Wouldn't be the first he abandoned someone.' Claire snorted.
"Yes?" A faint drawled voice came from the forest, earning a low groan from Claire.
"Oh I thought you know, you left." Wesker emerged through the forest still looking well dressed for being in the situation they were.
"Ah, if you had slept another hour, I would have already been long gone." With a smirk he went towards the river, his hands were gloved still, everything seemed in place.
"So..." Claire drifted off taking a seat on a nearby rock. "What are we going to do?"
"Well I am going to walk to the closest town, all my devices seem to have tarnished with the rest of yesterday's events." He said walking past claire and back into the deep brush.
"Well what about me?" Claire asked following suit in his footsteps.
"Come along if you'd like I suppose." He sighed not faltering in his steps.
"Damn, would you get a load of this place?" Chris groaned, seeing the Deserted town in shambles.
"I know, and were not even halfway done with the town." Poor people, Jill thought as she passed what used be a playground.
"Don't you think- ah never mind." Chris bit his lip, running a stressed hand through his brown spikes.
"No it's alright Chris, what's on your mind?" Jill asked going back inside the vehicle they were designated to drive for the investigation.
"I mean, who could possibly want to infect these people; there's no benefit, no purpose." Chris sighed lightly. "I'll tell you, if the person had to take down everyone in this town, just out of spite.." Chris shook his head.
"I'm getting myself to worked up, never mind what I said, let's just finish this mission and get on with our way, I already have enough problems." Shifting the gear into drive, Chris pulled off from the side of the road.
It was getting dark quickly and Claire was beginning to get more and more anxious as Wesker seemed to have no thoughts on stopping, not even for a 5 minuet rest. Not that Claire didn't feel tired, although a little stiff from the knees.
"Wesker?" Claire asked when the sun now down to its pink luminous color, the soft clouds contrasting against the horizon gave it a peaceful, sweet look.
"Yes?" His rich voice echoed off the trees, breaking through the canopy openings.
"Aren't you going to take a rest anytime soon?" Claire asked, holding her injured hand close by. Wesker's brows raised in question, looking down to meet her sparkling blue eyes.
"Why do you propose that idea?" He asked walking over a fallen old tree.
"Well because I'm not built like you." Claire responded bluntly, eyeing his facial expression.
"Ah yes, you are a human." He smirked. "I suppose I could, although it would be much faster I just left you behind."
Claire's eyebrows furrowed at the idea, although she'd much rather have that option, she had to think of her well fair. Even in summer camp, they forced Claire if she had to go potty to go in pairs; survival buddy's. Wesker was no 'buddy' of any sort, so he could fit in the category of 'survival acquaintance'.
Wesker paused in the middle of an open canopy, causing Claire to skid to a stop as well to avoid slamming into the tyrants back.
"Right here seems like a nice spot; seems like your in luck dear heart, a cave is just across from us." Wesker motioned toward the moss covered cave. Claire grimaced.
"But caves are cold and mucky." Claire's thoughts spoke out loud without much notice To herself.
"That's quite right, never knew you as a survival tactic." Wesker said, a small amount of impress was heard.
"I mean I did survive those outbreaks, what do you expect?"
"I thought Kennedy did most of the work." Wesker has a smirk printed on his face as Claire ignored his comment.
"I'll gather fire wood, I mean it's the least I could do, since you're already letting me rest." Claire offered, already making a move towards the tree branches. Returning to Wesker in an armful of branches, he frowned at her.
"I take it that I was right about Kennedy doing all the work." Bluntly Wesker strutted towards another area.
"W-why?"
"You try and light a fire with those twigs." Wesker spoke, looking at a sturdy but less than tall tree.
"This one looks about right." Wesker took out a combat knife from his suit jacket, defiling the tree by crossing a perfect 'x' on the bark.
"Now if you have a better idea than me-" Claire heard a crash from the cave and came out running, dropping all of her wood in the process.
"I think this is wood is suffice, wouldn't you think?" Wesker asked, carrying the log that was his own height and much more than his weight.
With a fire already blazing, Claire leaned her head back against the cool cave.
Wesker was next to her, his sunglasses placed neatly on his sculpted face.
"Ya know," Claire's voiced echoed, her body relaxed. "This could be worse."
Wesker smirk had a faint smile to it, nodding at her comment.
"I suppose you can be right this time, Ms. Redfield." Claire looked up towards the blonde, his hair slightly disheveled from the days activity, adding more to his attraction.
"I mean, other than you taking me captive, my life being in danger every second, and from what happened yesterday," Claire yawned shivering slightly from the cool cave. "I could have better, but I can also have much more worse, which I have."
"Well yes, with this delay, I do have a good result out of this at the very least." Claire looked surprised at Wesker for a moment.
"What would that be?"
"2 less assailants I have to worry about," Wesker smirked. "And I'm sure the person that sent them will be sure to not have any more plans in the future any time soon."
Claire pondered For a moment. "I think this is the longest I've ever talked to you, like, at all."
"You are right indeed." Wesker nodded, looking into the fire now, his sunglasses gave off the flaming reflection. Claire moved her hand toward his face, his arm snatching it in mid air again like the countless other times, but this time he let her forearm go, allowing her to remove his sunglasses. Greeting her were his sanguine eyes, the pupil silted giving it a demonic look to the beautiful shade in colour.
"Sunglasses shouldn't be worn in doors, manners are always important." Claire smiled, her smiling illuminating her face, her blue eyes dancing with the flames.
"And sleep was always a must at night." Wesker retorted, Claire shivered again against the cool stone. Noticing this Wesker shrugged off his jacket handing it to Claire. Claire eyed at the coat suspiciously, then looked at Wesker.
"Why are you being nice?" Well this was the closest act of kindness that Claire had ever seen Wesker do.
"If you'd much rather I'll just put the coat back on again." Wesker grunted his eyes glowed a red for a moment. He wore a tight black turtle, with a holster on the side, and a combat knife of the other.
Claire gripped the jacket, still in suspicion and put the clothing on her shoulders, feeling much warmer.
"Wesker." Claire spoke, her eyes already hazing from sleep.
"Hm?" He responded looking towards the fire yet again, the flames playing tag with him watching.
"Thank you."
