Chapter 7

A run with a newborn

Bella…

Jacob's paws thudded with a shaking force against the ground as he blindly drove through the forest, panting as his chest steadily burned. It licked the inside walls as if it was an empty container that held his heart doused in gas and set to 'slow burn'.

A pained roar shook his body as his head shook wildly, trying to get a grip all the while the worry for Bella's wellbeing grew worse and worse.

Is she really okay? Did she get hurt, or worse, bit?

A shudder ran through him and his anger only sky rocket – as well as his self loath. He should have never left her. She begged him not to leave and yet…

The last image of Bella as he pulled away from her on the hill top flashed into his mind. She was just so beautiful then. More beautiful than he's ever seen her…

And he just left her there.

Jacob shook his head, his chest throbbing. No, stop it Black. She's alive. I would know if she wasn't. I would feel it. I know I would. We're just that connected. But he…

Jacob felt sick at the thought of her wrapped around that blood sucker who had hurt her chance after chance, who left her, and who simply drained the life out of her by the day. Just the fact that she wants to even play with the thought of being….

Ugh. Jacob shook away the painful image of her with paler skin that held no warmth, that was like hard glass to the touch Her additive scent rotting away to smell like them, her beautiful brown pools forever lost in a sea of red…

She would become the enemy. A walking corpse, a perfected reminder of who she once was, of who he once loved.

A souless monster.

Jacob grunted, shoving away the image. And now I'll be damn if I will let that happen. I felt her, in fact, I still feel her. It was just so strong when my lips met hers...

And it still left him breathless and confused – and scared. He's never felt something so painfully strong before. She just twisted his world far worse than she's already have. It tipped on insane…

Vampire

His body skid to a halt, the strong scent of a vampire suddenly blanking his mind. A leech all the way out here? Then it dawned. The newborn that attacked Bella.

And as if thrown in the back of his wolf's mind, Jacob's form ran on complete instinct and crouched, a feral growl ripping from his throat.

Protect

Catching a shimmer, his eyes darkened before quickly flicking to catch something darting away in the treetops. The only thing visible were dancing raven locks that twirled behind her and the blur of her long brown skinned coat that gently brushed her caramel legs, sparkling when a rare sun beam would hit it. She was trying to get away.

Not on my watch, leech. Another loud growl jerked through him and like a bullet, Jacob lurched after her, his jaws snapping at her feet as she seemed to twirl and dance away just in time. Speeding then slowing as she leaped from tree to tree. But he was determined to end its pathetic life. How many more did that red headed leech have hiding out here, just waiting to attack?

And like that, He was dragged farther and farther from Bella. A part of him loathed this leech for doing so. But he was also doing this to protect Bella like he should have been, like he always will. If it was his choice, he would never leave her side. But in due time, He'd make her realize. In due time…

If Jacob haven't been physically trying to kill the vamp while mentally thinking of ways to open Bella's eyes just a little more, he would have taken notice to the familiar hint in this particular vampire's scent. And he would have realized why it made his chest burn with an old familiar ache just by breathing it in.

Or the trance she seemed to unknowingly have over him.

And that was the seventh chapter with a little check in on Jacob. It will also be the last one for a while because it's about to start to get more serious according to Miss Swan. I can't say much without giving it away but let me know what you think, kay? Now I'm off to continue the story! ^_^
