The squeal of tires could be heard all around as the various assembled vehicles took off like bullets, different thoughts running through the head of each participating driver. Snow took an early lead, his lambroghini roaring down the dark asphalt road, tailights the only thing visible to Lightning at the distance he currently was ahead of her. Lebreau had already over done it, the race ending for her before it even began. The burnout from her Lotus had proven too much for her to handle, the worn tires she had had for a few years now busting from the resulting heat and pressure build up. A string of obscenities could faintly be heard from the frustrated driver before fading under the dull roar of Lights own engine. A grin crossed her features, one down two to go. She accelerated, leaning heavily on the gas pedal, keeping one eye on her speedometer and one on the road.
A black blur shot past her to her left, and she cursed as she realized she had forgotten about that damned Ninja. She sped up, before decelerating and drifting into the break in the road ahead, overtaking Fang and accelerating out to cut her off from making the same manuever. She grinned subtly as she rocketed ahead; Fang's bike had speed, but she had experience on her side, being more familiar with the roads of Eden than her girlfriend. 'Sorry Fang, I love ya, but I gotta win this' she thought as she scanned the road ahead for any sign of Snow. A bright glint going into the turn about a quarter mile ahead of her tipped her to his location and she smirked. A fallen tree had split the road ahead almost directly into two paths. A clean up crew was due to be removing it tomorrow, but tonight it would serve her well.
Snow was a good guy, but he wasn't exactly the brightest. He'd probably end up taking the left path, unknowingly doubling back only to come out right where he'd started. Witht this thought in her head and a smirk on her features, she sped up to close some distance, coming through the turn just in time to see Snow making a sharp left. 'Tch, I like ya ya lunk, but you're too predictable' She swerved right, drifting onto the path that would come out at the next leg of the race, being sure to watch her speed lest she blow her engine. It paid off to know the streets like the back of her hand, it also helped to watch the news every once in awhile. Something Snow could not be bothered with.
She declerated coming into the winding quarter mile stretch that would come out close to the finish line, but something caught in her undercarriage, making the car wobble violently before straightening out. Shocked, but not having enough time to really think, she instinctually pressed the gas, gunnning the engine to full to try and regain control. She managed to right herself somewhat, enough to drive without risking crashing. She swore under her breath at the thought of the potential damage to her baby. She managed to get through the the winding trail, coming out at the last two turns before the straight stretch to the finish.
'Trying to drift will be too risky. I wanna win, but not at the cost of my life. I'll have to be careful with this last bit.' The thought was discouraging, but it was sadly true. If she attempted to drift into the final turns, not only would she be risking harm to her Civic; but herself as well. Light was risky, but she wasn't suicidal. She declerated slightly, just enough to allow her to make the first turn without careening out of control and maintained a steady speed going through the second, coming out evenly alligned with the straight stretch of asphalt that would lead to her victory, only a quarter mile left. A black blur whizzed past her window, careening wildly left and right barely stable enough to support the rider.
Light watched in horror as Fang, unable to keep control, bailed from her bike. Her body hit the pavement at an odd angle as the bike tipped to it's side, screeching past the finish line in a sickening sound of grating steel as it crashed violently with Lebreaus Lotus. The frane crunpled immediately on impact, smashing into a grotesque husk as it twisted and somehow found itself lodged in the side door. She hit the brake, screeching to a halt while desperately undoing her seat belt. Finally managing to get the damned thing off, she threw open her door and jumped out, calling Fang's name and running towards the spot she had seen her girl bail out. 'Fuck the stupid race, just please let her be ok.' Worry tore at her, clouding her mind into a barely aware haze as she searched for any sign of Fang's body. A twitch of movment to her left caught her eye, and she tore off in that direction, ignoring her sister and Lebreau as they called out for her. Her only focus was finding Fang, every thing else could and would wait. She had to know that her love was ok.
She dove to her knees at the source of the movement, only to find a fully concious but thoroughly terrified Fang staring up at her. Relief washed over her in waves, the huntress didn't appear to be harmed, but she was obviously experiencing some form of shock. Light grabbed her gently by the shoulders, pulling her up into an embrace while stroking her hair. Tears began to pool in her azure orbs as she held Fang tightly. Before she realized it their roles had switched, Fang holding her and gently caressing her scalp as she cried. They stayed that way for what seemed like hours, but in reality was only a few minutes. Serah and Lebreau had caught up with her, and while Lebreau moved Light out of Fang's grip Serah started checking the huntress for injuries.
After a few minutes, and only finding bruises and some scrapes from where her body had impacted the road, Serah deemed Fang to be ok and Lebreau released Lightning back into Fang's waiting arms.
"So, what's the damage to my bike?" Fang asked as she stroked Lightning's back. She knew that Lightning and her would definitely have to talk later, but for now she was wondering just how much the repairs would be costing her.
Lebreau fidgeted nervously before replying, unsure of wether or not she should be telling Fang this. "It's trashed, the frames completely collapsed and I'm almost positive the engine is done for. Maybe not, but it wouldn't matter anyway. It's kind of lodged in the side of my Lotus anyway. It'd take at least a week to remove it and even longer to be able to fully assess the damage. I've called Snow and the rest of the NORA crew and they're on their way now with the tow truck. We won't know anything til at least the morning."
"Fair enough, but that kind of leaves me in a bind. That was my ride, and I don't have any money for a cab. Unless Light wants ta give me a lift there's no way I'm making it back to my hotel by morning." The huntress responded. Light shifted in her hold to look up into her girlfriends eyes.
"And who said you were going back? Hell no. After tonight, you're NOT leaving my sight. You're staying with Serah and I. Don't even THINK about arguing, you won't win and you won't change my mind." The determination in the pinkettes voice radiated, and the no-nonesense tone she used when speaking was enough to let Fang know that she had no choice in the matter. Not that she was arguing. Her first night in her girlfriends house? No way in hell she was missing that.
Lebreau said her good byes with a promise to Fang to let her know what they could find out in the morning and with that, Fang, Serah and Lightning all piled into Lightnings civic and made their way to Lightning's humble abode.
A/N: Hi everybody :) When I first added this chapter, I realized I forgot to include my author's notes that I leave at the end of every one. First off I'd like to apologize for the EXTREMELY long delay in between this chapter and the last, but unfortunately life caught up with me and kind of bucked me over there for awhile. Secondly, Dimension Detention will be updated between tommorrow or three days from now, depending on how things go with something I'm planning for the FlutterDash group on FiMfiction, so for those readers of that fic who read this, hopefully the next chapter will please you. I also sincerely hope that all of my FLight readers out there enjoy this chapter, and as a treat for you all the next update will not only be a longer chapter, but it'll be a TRIPLE UPDATE, to make up for all of the lost time. That's right; Not one, not two, but THREE chapters. Hopefully it'll make up for at least some of the horribly long update time.
