A/N Hey guys, look an update :D
"Where is my Darling Girl?" A voice called through the house of one of Asgard's best healers, the occupants recognising the voices source immediately.
"Frigga!" the now-warrior squealed with childlike glee as she raced through the house to the door, stopping when she stood before the queen. She quickly dropped to one knee and lowered her gaze respectfully, "I mean, your majesty." She said in a sober tone.
"Rise my dear and let me look at you!" Frigga said with an amused tone.
Magenta stood and smiled. She watched as Frigga's keen eyes took in every detail, she had changed out of her armour and now wore a long dark blue dress, with her scarred arms showing. Here in this house, before these people, she didn't feel embarrassed by her appearance, a rare luxury that she hadn't been able to enjoy in her absence. After a moment Frigga gently stroked the girls' cheek with the back of her hand. "What happened to the little girl I met all those years ago?" she asked.
"She met two amazing mothers that knew what was best for her before she did." Magenta answered.
Frigga pulled the warrior, now her height, into a tight hug. "I'm so proud of you dear." The two stepped back and Kataya ushered them into the main living area.
Together the three women spoke, Magenta telling them all about her training and the trouble she caused in her first few years, taking care to assure that she hadn't been punished too harshly when the women before her took on faces a kin to a mother bear. Frigga then told the two about Loki's situation, apparently in Magenta's absence the two had spent a lot of time together, with Frigga often confiding in Kataya on the matters of her sons. Frigga cleared her throat, "Now my dear, I know that you have only just returned but I need to ask something of you, more of a job offer really."
Magenta sat a little straighter in her chair, "Yes?"
Frigga took a moment to organise her thoughts, "Like I said earlier Loki is now to be under 24 hour watch. Three guards in total are to be assigned to him. Two of them are, after Thor, Sif and the warriors three, the strongest in the army. The third was originally meant to be Lady Sif-"
"Oh I bet she would love that!" Kataya cut in sarcastically.
Frigga smiled and nodded her agreement, "Exactly why I would like to find someone else for the job… someone like Magenta."
Magenta looked surprised for a moment, before she was able to respond though Kataya beat her, "Absolutely not! Loki, though your son, is a dangerous criminal! I will not have Magenta anywhere near that man! Absolutely not!"
"Kat-" Magenta tried, in a soothing voice.
"No! You will not be doing this! That is final!" Kataya exclaimed, standing and leaving the room.
Frigga sighed. Magenta ran her fingers through her hair absentmindedly, "Sorry about that…I guess she's still a little protective…"
Frigga smiled, "It's alright, I'm the same with my Thor, he's off saving the realms every other week and yet I still fear he will be hurt."
Magenta smiled, "I would be happy to accept your offer. If you'll excuse me I'll go and talk Kat around." Standing with a wink to Frigga Magenta called out innocently, "Mother Kat?"
Finding the woman in the kitchen, doing the dishes with an urgency that really wasn't necessary for such a task Magenta walked in quietly, "You know…" she drew out slyly, "no matter how hard you rub that jar, a wish granter isn't going to come out."
"Shame maybe then I could wish you into changing your mind." She replied, not facing her.
"How did you know?" Magenta asked, surprised.
A snort of laughter greeted her surprise, "Please! I raised you, I know the look you get when you have made up your mind."
"So…" Magenta drew out hopefully, "Does that mean i have your blessing to accept?"
Kataya sighed. "Fine. How bad can a murder be right?"
"Loki!"
Loki smirked at the familiar roar. Dropping all expressions he turned to see the man now standing at his door. "Yes Thor?"
Said god prowled towards him, his anger radiating off him, "What did you do!?" he demanded.
Loki pulled a confused face, "What ever do you mean?"
Thor glared daggers at the younger, "To the maidens! What did you to the maids? They are all terrified at the prospect of entering your room! So I repeat…what did you do?" he asked menacingly.
Loki smirked and shrugged. "I simply asked their opinion on frost giants." As he said this Loki allowed his Jotun appearance to show, his skin slowly turning blue, his eye's turning a blood red. "Apparently they don't like them very much." He tried not to show how much the girls screams had upset him, after all why should he care, right?
"I have half a mind to make your blue hue permanent!" Thor threatened. It was an empty threat and they both knew it, Thor still cared about Loki, but he needed to keep up the façade.
Loki smiled in an innocent way; he opened his mouth to retort but before he was able to a knock at the still opened door and a family scolding voice, caught their attention. "Now boys, I leave you alone for a few hours and you're already squabbling!"
The two froze for a moment. Loki quickly changed his skin tone as Thor stubbornly replied, "Mother please, we are far too old to be squabbling! We're…"
"Discussing." Loki finished with a smile.
Thor rolled his eyes as Frigga smiled fondly back, "What can we do for you mother?" the blonde asked.
"I stopped by to introduce you to Loki's third guard." Frigga explained.
"Lead the way." Loki said, gesturing with his hand.
Frigga shook her head, "Actually Loki dear, you won't be meeting them."
Loki looked shocked, "But-"
Frigga silenced him with a hand, "No 'buts'! Now Thor come along so I can introduce the two of you."
Thor nodded allowed Frigga to link her arm through his, ignoring the pout on Loki's face.
Magenta nervously played with her elbow length gloves. Her thumb skimmed over where she knew her scars were, despite the pain that caused them they acted as an assurance. Proof that she was a survivor. She could certainly survive meeting the God of Thunder, Prince and heir to the throne of Asgard…right?
Magenta was just entertaining the idea of running when she heard Frigga's familiar voice, "I think you'll really like her Thor, she is a very brave warrior and she worked very hard with the Valkeries. And I believe she can handle this task just as well, if not better, than Lady Sif. That way she can continue her work with the Warrior's Three."
"I'm sure that Sif will appreciate that." Answered a deep gruff voice hinted with amusement. A moment later she found herself coming face to face with the source of the voice. Thor was a foot taller than Magenta and had a much more bulky build than herself, with the muscles to suit a god. He had sky blue eyes that shone as he smiled at her. He seemed friendly. "Hello, you must be Lady Magenta?" she nodded. "My mother has told me about you. So you are to be my bro- Loki's guard?"
Magenta felt her curiosity peek at Thor's choice of words, noting the slight sadness in his voice when he spoke Loki's name. "Yes I am. It is a pleasure to meet you."
"Now I hate to be blunt but my mother says that you are possibly more qualified than one of my best warriors, but I understand that you only completed your training yesterday. So I must ask, what can you do that Sif cannot?" Thor asked, not unkindly, mostly curious.
"This." Magenta conjured the shadows around her, becoming one with their movements as they spun around her. Once she had been engulfed by the darkness she slunk back against the wall, spurring the already there shadows into life. Moving silently, Magenta stuck to the wall as she made her way behind the bewildered god; once she was behind him she dropped into a crouch, side sweeping the blondes legs out from under him as she did.
Thor fell with a thud. Standing – 'chin up, back straight, shoulders square, don't slouch young lady', the lesson was drilled into her, 'confidence is key' - she dispersed the shadows to whence they came and smirked down at the man.
Thor smiled in curiosity as he looked the woman over. Standing he turned to his mother, who had watched the event with a smile, "I see why you chose her."
"And the beauty of Magenta's gift is that Loki won't." Frigga said, smiling at herself. When Thor looked at her questioningly she explained, "You see with her shadow bending Magenta will be able to guard Loki without his knowledge."
Thor nodded in understanding, "You want him to be able to have some privacy without giving Odin a reason to protest."
"Frigga smiled. "Exactly."
"So," Magenta's voice cut through the Prince's thoughts, "when do I start?"
The royals exchanged a look. "How about now?" Thor said.
Loki sat on his bed, glaring at the golden doors his mother and Thor had walked out of. Just as he was considering following to find out exactly who the mysterious guard would be the doors opened, revealing Thor, Frigga and... no one else.
Head tilted to the side in confusion Loki asked, "Well... where is he?"
"How do you know it's a he?" Frigga asked.
Loki rolled his eyes, "Alright, where is she?"
"He or she is already in the room. We shall leave you in their capable hands. Have fun." Frigga said in an amused tone, before leaving. Thor smiled, laughed once in delight before leaving.
Pursing his lips Loki slowly spun on his heel. 'No one's there...' just as he had finished the thought a slight shiver, a kin to a ripple through water, passed through the shadows on the left wall.
Officially intrigued Loki conjured a small ball of light, the only magic his bracelets would allow, and sent it towards the wall. The shadows remained in place, throwing logical thought out the window. Loki smiled in genuine delight, his eyes sparking with a mischievous light that he had all but forgotten, "So mother has found a sorcerer to keep me company? How fun!"
