Alone

In a far off corner of the dark manor did he seek her out by a large window. Rain poured over the other side of the glass like flowing tears as she stared through it. Eyes distant. Body still.

The draculina, sometimes, went quiet like that, not willing to be loud and alive with smiles and laughter as she was known to do. Something had, no doubt, triggered her reason to relive the painful memories. Otherwise, why would she be sad? Why would she let herself be?

As much as he understood, her behaviour vexed him. He didn't like the silence. Rather loud and cheerful than distant she was supposed to be. But she was stubborn. She had proved it countless times. And now, easily denied even his presence. Her spirit gone; lost somewhere in the past as he sometimes was.

Seras confided in her mercenary when distraught. Not him. But not even her devoted mercenary was enough. This was about Seras Victoria and the power she had over herself and her own destiny. The inner strength she had possessed as a little girl who stared death in the face as she lashed out at those who had hurt her. Even as no one protected her. As powerful and invincible as he had made her, the memories still haunted her. He knew.

He moved over to her and took her gloved hand in his, waiting for a reaction that wouldn't come. Alucard knew her silence wouldn't last; trusted it wouldn't. She would come back. But for now, she stood alone. He knew she had to.

Teasingly, he brushed a thumb over her knuckles, but even that didn't work. Her mercenary would take care of her when she needed it.

He dropped her hand and moved to leave but trailed fingertips over the soft spikes of her hair. Funny that she showed no reaction. Funny that he stood there touching the tips of her hair.

His little draculina was broken inside, and he wouldn't be the one to fix her. But he would await her return.

Even Seras Victoria was unreachable at times.

Even he could… miss… her.

Sometimes.
