Disclaimer: I do not own Percy Jackson and the Olympians

A/N: So as many readers of The Return of Perseus Jackson know, it's going to be rewritten... Except, I haven't read the Heroes of Olympus series, so...

What's Tartarus like? Descriptions and places would be cool, thanks.

Chapter 11: Ethan Nakamura

When Ethan was small, he got one of those weight balancers for his fifth birthday. His father got a weird look in his eyes like it was another test he would have to partake in.

But really, for him, any fool could see that eight blocks on one side and eight blocks on the other would equal balance. Or if there were five pieces of teriyaki chicken, then you would need more than five pieces of takoyaki.

However, not everything was balanced. In the small, but cozy abode, Ethan lived with his aunt and his father, and for a while, thought that everything was good. Two adult figures in his life- life was equally balanced for him, just like his teriyaki chicken and takoyaki.

But he didn't have a mother.

He realized it when he was starting school, and he realized that no, while his aunt may have been a mother figure, she wasn't his mother.

He should've realized it earlier.

And everything went down the rabbit hole, because there was supposed to be a mother and a father, but it wasn't like that- it was an aunt and a father, but where's the mother?

Ethan came home, saw his father typing away in Japanese on a computer and asked: "Where's mother?"

His father froze and looked up. "What?"

"Mother," Ethan said, as if the grownup was the child and the child was the grownup. "She's not here. She never has been. You never told me what happened to her."

His father sighed. "You'll know all in good time, Ethan."

Ethan frowned. "I'm not having a good time. Where is she?"

Another sigh. "Your mother is..." The grownup looked uncomfortable, as if he didn't know either. "She's a detective... And, one day, someone killed her... Family... So she swore revenge and is probably still searching for the murderer to this day... Because that's what she does."

"And..." Ethan looked confused, the stinging feeling not occurring yet. "No email, no letter saying hello...?"

"Well, we never got married. So if she's... Dead... They probably won't inform us of her absence. You must not blame your mother, Ethan. She has her reasons, and all will be revealed eventually."

"What, is she suddenly going to appear on our doorstep?" Ethan's aunt commented bitterly, coming in the room. "That woman was always so strange..."

"Yes!" His father shouted, panicky and rushed. His voice got lower. "Let's just leave her be, hmm? Don't worry about it."

"But-"

"Don't worry about it," his father repeated in a casual tone that shut him right up for a few seconds.

Ethan's eyes stared at his father's before he shook his head. "She's doesn't care about us, then."

His aunt nodded. "No, she doesn't."

"Family is not everyone's top priority," his father said in a strained voice. "Your mother is preoccupied with other things."

"What, for six years?"

"Just let it go!"

Ethan crept quietly to his room, avoiding any further conflict between his aunt and father. When he got inside he told himself to deal with it- because not everything was as picture perfect and balanced as he thought it was supposed to be.

Because the world wasn't a state of equilibrium.

And one day, he would find his mother or at least know who she is so he could fit two pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together and things could be equal once again.

A/N: This one was rather dull. It lacked life and passion. But I need inspiration: what other demigods can I write about? Thanks for all the support- and also getting over 100 reviews!

thebiggestbookworm: Maybe, maybe not... Nah, it was a joke :)

TheGirlofAwesomeness: Thanks! Huh, actually in the first chapter- the lie was really ridiculous... But thank you anyways!

percyjackson1234 (Guest): Thank you!
