"Sakura, what's the emergency?" Syaoran cried out as he crashed through the Kinomotos' front door with his sword unleashed, and in full attack mode.
Sakura didn't have to respond as a wailing baby that she was holding at arm's length pretty much answered his question.
"So when did you smuggle Moeko-chan out of the orphanage?" chuckled Syaoran as he eyed the infant.
"Ha, ha. She has a cold. I offered to babysit so the other children don't get sick," explained Sakura over the screams. "But she's been crying non-stop for an hour."
Syaoran scooped the baby in his arms and sang her a lullaby as he rocked her. She instantly settled down and even started to coo. Sakura's jaw dropped.
"What are you, some kind of baby whisperer or something?" she asked in a soft voice.
"Some people have it and some people don't," he replied smugly.
Sakura took a moment to study Syaoran while he was preoccupied with the baby. It wasn't often that she witnessed the stoic warrior in such a paternal role.
"It kind of makes you wonder what it's going to be like when we have our own kids," Syaoran said casually, his attention still on the child.
Sakura's eyes widened. Was he speaking in general, or did he really foresee a future where they have a family together? Sensing that it was now or never, Sakura decided to take a chance and ask the question that had been tucked away in her heart for the longest time.
"Syaoran, do you-"
There was a sharp knock on the door that prevented her from going any further.
"Oh, that must be the head of the orphanage," Sakura said quickly collecting Moeko-chan in her arms. "Thanks for helping out, Syaoran. I really appreciate it."
Making her way to the door, Sakura couldn't decide if she was relieved or disappointed for the interruption. While she longed to know Syaoran's true feelings, there was a part of her that was afraid of finding out if the answer was not the one she was looking for.
