The Pearl
Her Chestnut wood was weather worn
Like stained sand in an unwarranted world
Laying boldly under a canvas sail
Darkened as the night
And pure as the stars
She was my pride and glory
My home and safety
My jewel in a sunken treasure chest
I would trade the world for her
But today she is bleeding
I can hear her whimper
Even over the screams of drowning men
I am silent, unlike the battering waves
Through stining eyes tinted turquoise
I watch her die
Slowly sinking deeper
Only deeper
I don't leave her
I never would
My eyes tear up
I'm pinned to the deck
all i know is cold
I gently grasp her sun charred rail
It is smooth, like the sky
I don't breathe
losing sight of the sun
I close my eyes
I just close my eyes
