You beat the game. You won. Lord English defeated and a new universe born. You and your friends where surprised that it was even possible. Thank god for complected Loopholes. Best of all you finally met Karkat. The first thing you did was punch him in the gut before giving him a great big hug, tears falling.
"Sending me some serious mixed signals here Harley!" Karkat said, gasping for air in your grasp.
"Shut up you big baby" You cried. You thought for sure he would have pushed you away. He surprised you by returning the hug. Even more of a surprise was that he was a great hugger.
You all got to work on the universe. Working together to make it safe and inhabitable. John and Roxy worked great on setting up the landscapes and resources. Dave was often talking with Terezi about the stocks and towns the people living there would have, Terezi's smile slowly coming back to what it used to be. That meant you needed a new Knight to give you a hand on the stars. Instantly you dragged Karkat into it, telling him how he owes you.
"I don't owe you jack shit Jade" he complained.
"Yuh-HUH! You where such a big meanie to me! So yes! You totally owe me some help!" You ask begging him.
"Fuck. No." He said glaring at you. He was a good 7 inches shorter then you, which he blamed on the dog ears and heels.
"Don't make me use my puppy eyes" You threatened, a smile crawling across your face.
"Your what?" He said very confused.
"Old Harley tradition. Get ready for this." You said pulling the ears on top your head back and looking at him, pleading him to help. He just looked at you.
"I'll fucking help you if it means you never have to make that dumb ass face again" He said rolling his eyes dramatically.
"Yay! Come on! This will be SO much fun" You grabbed his hand and dragged him away. You sat and drew the constellations. First those in memory for those you lost. Dave's Bro, Rose's Mom. Nepeta, Equius, Eridan. You gave them all a special spot in the sky. Karkat smiled at the now twinkling sky.
"Not to shabby Harley." He said with a smile.
"Thank you! You didn't do all that bad either crab cakes" you laughed as you positioned the last star into place.
Days had passed as you had both been working away at the stars. You made stars telling the stories of the game. Telling stories of alternate timelines. How you beat it and won.
"That is totally NOT how it went!" Karkat said just as you had started a new constellation. It was the destruction of Prospit. You had went to him for advice and you had a head splitting head ache.
"Uh, YEAH! You had a stick up your ass!"
"It's not like you exactly WANTED to talk to me! You where all 'my head hurts! You're annoying! Why do you wanna troll me!' I was just caught out of the blew about it!" He argued.
"Well of course my head hurt! I had to deal with you!"
"And you think it was a fun time having to hear you bitch all the time? No! Not even in the slightest!"
"I did NOT bitch! If anything you where bitching!"
"Oh fuck you!"
"No! Fuck you!" You glared at him, as you held eye contact for what had seemed to be an hour. You saw his bright red eyes. Almost as if they where on fire, in contrast from your grass green eyes. You where to focused on his eyes you didn't even notice him lunge at you, but instead of him tackling you, his lips met yours. You where to shocked to even process what was happening. Karkat finally backed away and then stopped, just staring.
"Urhm..." his face was almost as bright as eyes. You both shared an awkward silence as you stared at each other. Finally you broke the silence with your laughter.
"Oh whats so funny!" He snapped, thinking he had fucked up.
"Your face! Its like a tomato!"
"Shut the fuck up Jade!" he said right before you pulled him in for a hug. At that was it. The two of you had stuck together since then. You finished the stars. You held his hand as your friends gathered to watch as you set them up to the sky. They were beautiful. Each star a human who went god tier, showing that they would watch over the people who would live in the universe. You leaned on his shoulder as everyone danced and celebrated the twinkling stars.
The universe grew, as they do. Life came and started to form. Every night you and Karkat would sit there and watch the stars you made go bye, listening as legends where formed about them, about the gods that watched from above. Karkat would complain how they where telling them wrong. You just laughed, watching his face scrunch together. Every night you had to remind him that they cant interfere to much. Each night he sighed, hating how you where right. You paid him back with a kiss. Each being returned with him staring at you with those eyes that shined and twinkled. You thought they where prettier then any star in the sky. Every time you told him he frowned and shook his head.
"They're a fucking curse" he would always mumble under his breath. His face always got serious, almost like he wanted to say something. But he never tould you.
You stayed young. But you noticed that the trolls, other then Aradia and Vriska, slowly aged as they years went. You would only age slightly, never growing old and ancient. But you and your friends all eventually looked and became adults. You could see the lines grow on Karkat's face. You thought he looked about 30. Terezi and Kanaya hadn't start to age like he had. You pulled Kanaya to the side one day.
"Kanaya. Is there something wrong with Karkat? He looks...he looks so OLD!" You say looking up at the taller troll. She glanced down, looking nervous.
"Karkat would be most displeased if he knew I told you"
"Kanaya please! I'm getting worried." you beg, your ears flat against your head. Kanaya sighed.
"Very well. Just cause you'll have to find out sooner or later."
"Thank you Kanaya."
"Trolls life expectancy varies as you go up the spectrum. You live longer with a higher blood color" she started to explain.
"So what does that mean for Karkat?"
"That's the thing. We don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know!" Your voice cracked.
"What I mean is...Trolls of Karkats blood color...they're culled on sight. He's a mutation. No one of his color has lived a full life" You felt your heart sink. How long could he have? Hes like a ticking time bomb! You started to shake as your eyes stung.
"Jade...Jade I'm sorry." Kanaya placed her hand on your shoulder as she walked away, you staring down at the ground. You dropped to your knees, burying your face in your hands, hiding your tears.
"Jade?" Your ears perk up and your spin around. You look into the deep red eyes of Karkat, they look so young on his aged face. He kneels down before you.
"Jade what happened? Why are you crying!" He asked placing his hands on your shoulders. You almost want to smack him. How dare he not tell you!. You push him away.
"You god damn FUCK ASS!" you scream the word at him, bearing your teeth as your eyes continue to tear. He looks back confused and scared.
"Jade. Jade calm the fuck down" He says, you start breathing heavy as you look down again, bringing your knees to your chest.
"When where you going to tell me?' You ask.
"Tell you what exactly?"
"About your blood...and how long your live" You see his face conform into the saddest and surprised face. You could almost see his heart beat through his chest.
"Hopefully never" he mumbled looking down.
"WHY THE FUCK NOT!" You yelled at him
"CAUSE YOUR ALREADY GONNA LIVE FOREVER WHY MAKE YOU WORRY ABOUT HOW LONG YOU HAVE WITH ME!"He screamed back.
"Oh so just having you die suddenly was gonna be better!"
"Jade! That's unfair and you god damn know it!"
"Yeah and so is keeping that your close to DEATH is fair?"
"You don't know how close I am!
"And neither do you!" You to stared at each other for the longest time, eyes filling with tears. You collapse into his chest, tears violently falling as you cry. He wraps his arms around you, burying his face into your your hair as red stained tears stream down his grey cheeks.
"I'm sorry" you both say as he rocks you in his arms. He cups your face in his hands looking into your electric green eyes.
"Don't you fucking dare cry about this while I'm still alive." He orders you. You close your eyes and nod.
"I don't wanna live with out you Karkat."
"I know...I'm sorry." he apologizes.
"M-maybe Jade could help! Shes a life player!" You said, hopeful of a solution. He just shook his head.
"Don't you remember? Shes already brought me back to life before! Cant pull that shit off twice on the same person." He said frowning.
"This sucks"
"Bit of an understatement don't you think" He said with a small pout. You looked back at those perfect red eyes. You smiled.
"Yeah I guess." You stood up and held out you hand to help him up. He took it and help it as you walked away.
"No more secrets understand?" you say, punching him in the arm.
"Ow! Fine alright! So demanding." He groaned. He was finally about your height. You walked back to your friends like nothing had happened. And with that you and Karkat where happy. Many more years passed. Your universe expanded even more in such a short amount of time. You watched more planets form and stars die and the most beautiful nebula's start to form. But you saw your love begin to age. More and more wrinkles formed on his face. His hair wasn't jet black any more, grey beginning to form. Even his once bright lively eyes lost its shine. You where both the same age. You had stopped caring about your age long ago. You still looked like a young adult. He looked like your Grandfather before he died. You did the math. You where both in your forty's. You don't remember forty year olds looking that old. Kanaya was only now showing signs of ageing. You could see the concern on Aradia's and Vriska's face every time they saw Karkat. They know they'll be the only trolls once Terezi dies.
You would often stare at the stars you made with him all those years ago. Memories would always flood back to you as the stars twinkled and moved through the sky. Karkat would usually join you. But on nights he didn't you would let the tears fall down your cheeks as all you could do is wait. Wait for the day to come.
It was actually Karkat's idea to have everyone join in on your star gazing this time. You never really expected this from him. Nobody did. But they didn't want to say no. As you both lead the group to the hill you both sat at. Karkat walked a bit slower then what he used to.
"So whats the deal having us interrupt special Jade Karkat time then?" Dave asked. Karkat just rolled his eyes. Hes gotten much better with his anger through the years. You was so happy for that. Karkats hand was intertwined with yours as you made it to the usual spot. Every one sat down to look at the sky above, Aradia and Vriska floating above you all. The stars had multiplied since you first made them all. But you could still point out the ones you and Karkat had made all those years ago.
"Still holding up pretty well don't you think?" Karkat said with a small laugh. You gave him a sad smile. He was so...old. His eyes still shined along with the stars. Your friends chatted behind you. You didn't listen. You just cherished this moment with Karkat.
"Hey Jade."
"Yeah Karkat."
"You think they're actually up there? Watching us with the rest of the stars?" He asked, His bright eyes looking up with wonder, and sadness.
"Who?"
"You know. Eridan, Nepeta. All them" he said pointing at the constellations that had came to represent his fallen friends.
" I wouldn't know Karkat." You said with a shrug. He just frowned, his eyes bright with wonder.
"Probably find out soon enough" he said with a sigh, closing his eyes. Your white ears laid flat against your head.
"Don't talk like that"
"Mhm" he grunted. You focused on the stars as they swirled around in the sky.
"Hey Harley." whispered the voice to your side.
"Going by last names again? Hehe, I thought we where passed that!" you said with a small giggle.
"Shut up" he gave a weak laugh. He intertwined his hand in yours and squeezed it. You looked down to meet his red eyes. At the sight of your green eyes he smiled. His eyes where welling with tears.
"Whats wrong?" You asked, ears twitching with confusion. He shook his head.
"Your eyes. They're pretty" hes told you this before. But you smiled.
"Not as nice as yours" you said. His eyes reminded you of the roses you would grow on earth. You didn't notice the silence around you. Or all your friends eyes on you. Aradia and Vriska whispered above. You couldn't hear them. The looked worried though.
"Love you Jade" said the hushed voice of Karkat. You smiled
"I love you to Karkat." You leaned your head against yours, your hands still squeezed together. But something changed as Karkats eyes closed and his grip on your hand loosened.
"Karkat?"
Silence
"Karkat!"
You barley could see through the tears as the fell, hugging Karkat, as if he was still there. This starts the eternity of being alone with out him. Forever with out hearing his voice, his laugh. Seeing his smile. Those beautiful red eyes. Your friends grouped around you, hugging you as you cried into your brothers chest, your grandfather rubbing your back attempting to be comforting, shushing and trying to keep you calm. Behind you was all the trolls, it sinking in. Their faithful leader through all these years where gone. Aradia even looked shook up. She floated down you kneel down by you.
"Jade, Jade I'll take him alright. I'm so sorry." she said before floating away. You couldn't watch her take him away. You stayed buried in Johns chest, crying for Karkat. That's where you stayed for hours. Every one crowded around you as you cried. You feel asleep with tear stained cheeks and in the arms of your friends.
A few days had passed. You finally went back to that hill. Your favorite memories with him happened there. You couldn't just stop watching the starts you two fell in love with. You sad eyes watched them twinkled. Tears fell as you remembered Karkat's eyes of wonder as he two of you watched the stars go by. You saw the cluster of the Karkat's fallen friends. Your heart hurt as you missed the stories he would tell about them.
Taking a sigh you almost turned to head back to your friends. Before squinting at that cluster. You don't remember that start the other day. You've memorized every start born and created since the start of this universe. But this star made your heart flutter. You smiled as tears fell, starring at this star for the rest of the night.
The star twinkled above, but unlike the rest there was just a slight hint of red as it shined among the rest of its brethren in the dark canvas in the sky.
