Nakht.
Nakht was the village elder. I must preface this by saying how sure I am he had an infinitely interesting life; no one could lead Kul Elna if they hadn't. By My time, though he was still at hand during heists, he lead and organized rather than anything a child like Me would have found interesting. I suppose he was relatively old, pretty healthy, yet just starting to bald. Any other old man couldn't have done his job and lived.
The general attitude in the village was a disdain for authority, so having a village elder at all was seen as a necessary evil. He did very little enforcing, if I recall—any rule-breaker within Kul Elna would have to contend with all the villagers, and any lone person with a grudge would have to work it out on their own. No man could command another to do something he didn't want to do from virtue of authority alone. Rather, we collaborated for most things; it was Nakht's job to direct such work.
When I interacted with him, it was generally from afar in one way or another. I do remember getting beaten by him once, although I'm probably remembering the event as much more intense and painful than it was, given My age at the time. I can't remember My misdeed, but it must have been pretty bad… h-heh.
I do remember that Nakht had a force of will, a magnetic personality and the natural ability to defuse tension, and I don't think I ever saw him lose his temper—I never heard him yell, not even when he beat Me. Perhaps he simply had a silver tongue. If somebody had gotten envious of his position in the village or had any quarrel with him, he would have been easy to injure. The fact that nobody did is a bigger testament to how well-liked he was among the adults than anything I could say.
