Wild Side of the World was a story I wanted to tell as a sequel to Lost in the Clouds. But I lost interest in the big war story I had planned around the time the 4th Shinobi War started in the Naruto manga. That war just was so uninteresting in terms of character development that it gave nothing to really draw inspiration from.

As far as the story would have gone…

Kiba learns that The Rikudo Sennin had students, in addition to his children, who developed their own jutsu. One in particular was a master at developing Seals, and researched most of what Shinobi use for their seal techniques. However, there are many seals considered forbidden in modern day that were not forbidden when they were first invented. He experiments many seals on himself, eventually finding a way to sustain his life with his chakra indefinitely – a seal he managed to keep to himself. He was driven away by the Sage's two sons, and his research was taken and hidden away as well. Before he was banished, his memory was also stolen from him through a genjutsu – though his immortality was something that could not be undone.

There were two emerging Shinobi Clans at war with each other – The Inuzuka and the Yozo (Lion Riders). Settling the dispute between them, the Sage sent the Yozo to a tropical island and hid away his archives and libraries in the inactive volcano on the island and gave them the task of defending the island. Moreover he set 18 protection statues in place to ward off the immortality seal his former student had – preventing him from even approaching the island.

Time passed, the Student lived on and slowly managed to regain his memory. He became a power player in the islands to the east and eventually a man of influence in the Land of Water – he was a noble house unto himself, pretending to be Father and son from generation to generation.

He invades the island with an naval force from the Land of Water – tired of relying on the Shinobi to act as an army, this force is experimental and rather illegal in nature.

Well Kiba and Karui fight against the forces of the Student's army as they attempt to destroy the statues, allowing their master to progress inward on the island, but Clan Yozo is outnumbered and outmatched by a number of former shinobi who are members of the army.

As the army is approaching the final ring of statues, Kiba prepares for the final battle at the base of the volcano. Karui visits him in his tent and they spend the night talking. However to Clan Yozo, when an unmarried woman and a man share a tent for the night, they're considered married. When they say names it was always "O'Kiba" and "E'Karui" but after that night they're "A'Kiba" and "I'Karui" – the prefixes of their names change to indicate that they are no longer unmarried but now married.

Anyways… they fight the Student and his army – I'm glad I didn't get to this part of the story because I was going to have an army of elemental soldiers – which would essentially be like the Zetsu clone army – which was kind of lame in the Shinobi War.

The Student makes it into the Volcano and delves into his old research, beating Kiba in a fight. Karui falls back but discovers a shelf of scrolls sealed away by the Rikudo Sennin himself. They're scrolls of unsealing. He hadn't thought of them until after he and his sons had already defeated his Student, but the scrolls have intricate seals placed on them which when they make contact with human skin can actually remove seals – like a tattoo removal.

Kiba falls back to Karui and finds a few other scrolls – like ones which can temporarily grant elemental affinities. Kiba and Akamaru use these scrolls to distract the sage while Karui tries to undo the seal of immortality from the sage. She's initially not fast enough, but she manages to unlock the Lightning Shroud jutsu that the Raikage uses and moves at a speed that is finally able to outmatch the Student's. She manages to remove his seal of immortality, only to find that it's not just a seal on the back of his neck, but that his entire body is covered with seals

The fight would get crazy after that – eventually the volcano would threaten to erupt, but the Student uses his jutsu to stabilize that. In all their fighting, he made sure that no jutsu damaged any of the scrolls in the library. As much as he craved power, he respected knowledge. With the volcano unable to be stabilized, and the scrolls unable to be removed due to protective seals, the Student finally unlocks the last of his memories and gets a "Talk no jutsu" from the Rikudo Sennin and sacrifices himself, merging with the rock and fire of the volcano to render it inactive once more, saving the library, the island, and the people on it.

Clan Yozo won the battle outside, and make peace with the other villagers on the island, promising to continue to serve as the island's protectors.

Kiba and Karui and Akamaru finish their vacation on the island, they have a great time, but wonder whether they're really married or not.

As far as the team of Genin I had introduced in the story. I had some fun concepts for them, but honestly I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them.

One of the Genin was a healer, but with a twist. For example. To heal a wound like a broken bone, he would turn off your sense of smell, or temporarily make you blind in your left eye, or cause you to lose feeling in your left arm. Redirecting your body's natural systems to increase natural healing – rather than strictly use his chakra to force healing. The process was just a strange concept that I thought would be funny in a fight.

Anyways, it's a story I was never able to get the "tone" right on. It was going to be a fun vacation, but I think I missed that part up. Then it was going to be an adventure, but I got bogged down with exposition. Meh, whatever. It was a KibaKarui story so it's not like anyone really cared anyways.

The End
