Blood...
The scent, the screams. Jack had covered his ears, blue eyes wide with the horror before him and even Nicholas looked green. Sandy was trying to piece together what had just happened even as Pitch dropped the now severely wounded Toothiana upon the ground. The dark laughter that filled the air around the Guardians began to fade away as Pitch and his cohorts began to retreat. The first part of their plan was over.
Aster however could only stare. His beautiful fairy...
"Oh Toothy... Oh god Shiela..." Slowly kneeling by her side, he gather her limp frame up and could only hold her tightly. She was in shock from the pain that had just happened moments ago, but to Aster it felt like time had slowed down for hours as he had watched the woman he loved torn apart.
"We've got to get Toothy out of here, Bunny."
With the sound of Nicholas' voice filling the very silent air, Aster gave a nod of his head. "You're right. She needs medical attention! Jack! Freeze her back to stop the bleeding, but no frostbite ya, show pony!"
Twitching, and with a light flick of his wrist, Jack hurried forward and began to apply a frost to the now torn skin along Tooth's bare back. Sandy hurried and using his golden sand gathered up the Fairy Queen's wings in a delicate ball to keep them safe and alive. If they hurried they may be able to reattach them, but Sandy wasn't so sure it would be the right thing to do.
Nicholas removed a snow globe, hurriedly said the North Pole and tossed it nearby. Once the portal flashed open, Aster leaped to his feet, cradling Toothy within his arms and dashed forward. No time for a tunnel, he wouldn't be fast enough to get her to the doctors there at the north pole. Jack, Sandy, and Nicholas rushed through after the pair only Jack paused to look at the blood all over the floor.
"This is going to give Pitch fuel..." Then he dashed through before the portal could close on him.
Oh god... my back... My wings... why...?
The yeti's had done all they could have done to save her. They stitched, bandaged, and tried to make her as comfortable as possible, but the woman who was used to the warmth wasn't recovering in the cold air of the toy shop. So the decision to transfer her to Aster's burrow had been made. With the help of Sandy giving her comfortable dreams to keep her pain free, Aster had carried her there carefully through his tunnels from the workshop to his home... His burrow. The pooka had yet to sleep more than a couple hours a day from the nightmares he had been having. Even now, carrying Tooth's curled up form through the front door of his home had the memories flashing back through his mind.
Tooth arching her back, eyes wide open as she was snapped from the passed out state she had been. Hands reaching forward for anything to try to grab hold to pull herself away from the pain going on behind her. Those black sand tendrils growing tighter and tighter... the wings snapping and tendons pulling away from her flesh before they gave way. Aster could still hear the sound of her blood hitting the floor and watching Toothy slump over the tendrils wrapped about her waist before she was dropped without a care, even tossed at him. The sad state of affair of her wings fluttering to the ground like dragonfly wings on the breeze.
Head shaking swiftly, he tightened his grip upon her and moved to the guest room of his burrow. The bed was rough, but made of sweet grass and would be comfortable for the woman since it was not only fresh but the first cuttings from the fields he allowed to grow long for the bedding. Floors of hard wood, and a causal drape of lace around the four poster bed allowed him to check in on her without bothering her. Of course, she hadn't woken up yet. Aster had even made sure that Jack helped the little Shiela's with their tooth runs without Toothy's help.. but they were getting slow and tired. Some had even collapsed on the floors in some children's room having to be rescued before the child woke up.
"If Toothy doesn't wake up soon..." He didn't know what would happen..He just hoped that she would awaken soon enough. Nicholas had asked Manny about Tooth but the Man in the Moon had yet to answer. North hoped that the next rotation around, Manny would have something for them to know about her condition. They were all hopeful, but as the third week of her being asleep rolled around, Aster had begun to curl up next to her at night. Arm under her head, and watched her sleep... She was still as she was, eyes closed, breathing even, and her back was mostly healed now.
Of course, they had finished Easter without a hitch. Jack, sandy, and Nicholas had come to help the egglets get to where they needed to go and the children were happy for another year with hope in their own little hearts. Not that it did anything for Aster's mood, which was darkening by the day.
"Shiela, you have to wake up!" Hands running over a feather upon her head-dress, he grimaced as it came off from the gentle touch. His poor Toothy was molting feathers. The curls of black hair had taken their places, and she was looking more human by the day. "If ya don't hurry up and wake up, the only feather upon your head will be that golden one you love so much..."
Once he said what e wished, he removed his arm from under her head, and went to make some more broth for him to dribble into her mouth... Pausing before he got off the bed, he dipped back down and gave her forehead a kiss. "Please Shiela...Come back to me..." Then he left for the kitchen with a heavy heart.
A groan lightly rose from the bed where Toothiana laid... she was finally waking up!
