When their very short discussion ended, Soul decided that he should not be lying on his back sulking. Not that he really was crying or anything...
Anyway, after thinking of many solutions it was finalized that he would continue his interactions with Black Star. He'll tell his secret when they get married and have lots babie- too many soap operas. Soul did not know when he really would tell his secret, but it would be a while from now. He already knows that Maka doesn't does not tolerate lying and God knows what Kid is capable of doing.
Another is that he would no longer think of Black Star as anything more than a friend. It would be nice to have more research on human species and he could get his direct source from the teen. Soul couldn't risk getting the heart break that rarely happens to witches and wizards. He couldn't risk a factor like that at all. The only thing to do is force his mind and heart to communicate together and force himself into believing that Black Star is a friend.
Friend.
We are only friends.
Although it would be nice to be-
Shut up!
Okay, maybe it's going to take a while of practicing. But Soul was determined to assess the situation he was in. But for now...
The moon sure looks nice outside.
Soul was once again leaning against the rails while staring at the dark yet bright, blue sky. One hand was clutching the ruby locket while the other laid on the rail as a cushion for his head. He wasn't exactly staring at the magnificent view of the sky. He was waiting for Black Star to come up so they could talk. He knew his little scene at the café probably made him worried, which he shouldn't be.
Moments passed.
He's not here
Minutes passed.
He's still not here.
Half an hour passed.
When is he coming?
An hour passed.
Soul sighed with a sweat and figured that maybe he could talk to Black Star tomorrow. After all, the blue-haired idiot is pretty slow at picking up things, like his feelings, so he probably won't understand until tomorrow. Idiot Star-
" Hey, Soul." Soul took a deep breath to calm his deathly-fast beating heart before turning around. He wanted to glare at the other male with all his might but it was impossible to do that towards a winning smile the other pulled.
" Y-you... I...G-go away." He settled on and Soul rested his head in his arms. No! He was supposed to talk to Black Star not try and push him away.
" Why? You were waiting for me earlier." Soul furrowed his eyebrows.
" No. I-I wasn't." It wasn't very convincing but Black Star did not comment on that matter.
" Is something bothering you?"
" Why do you say that?" Soul responded, turning his head away more so his hot face couldn't be seen. Black Star is worried about him. He actually asked if there was anything wrong with him because he can see it somehow in the other's eyes. He is just too kind...
" You kind of ran out of the café crying." Black Star answered with a sheepish look. Soul's eyes widened and he blushed furiously.
" I was not crying!"
" Dude, your whole face was wet," The student said with a small grin," Even your eyes are still red." Soul felt his dry eyes as though he would feel the evidence. He quickly looked up and tried not to look embarrassed that he was caught.
" I-I wasn't. You must have been seeing things."
" But something is upsetting you. I'm not leaving until you tell me." Black Star said in a more serious tone. Soul mentally groaned since his problem is currently standing right in front of him. He couldn't just outright tell Black Star:
I'm in love with you and have been for a while. Oh and by the way, you smell nice.
Even in his head it sounded stupid.
The wizard couldn't make any sounds at all since he was desperately thinking of what to do and say. Black Star would not leave until he stated the problem. Why couldn't he say it? Isn't it better that if he was rejected, he wouldn't have a reason to miss Ohkubo? But then, wouldn't he suffer from unrequited love..? It was minutes and Soul still had not said anything, but looked even more conflicted than ever. His fingers fiddled with each other and he bit his bottom lip nervously as his eyes darted left and right. What should he say? Did he wait too long? What is he going to do?
" Soul?"
" I-I'm sorry. I just can't... I don't know-" Black Star walked up and placed a hand on top of the white-haired teen's head, making Soul stop in mid-sentence. He then slowly leaned down while gently leaning Soul's head forward so their foreheads touched. Soul's breath caught in his throat and his eyes widened at how close they were.
" It's fine Soul," He closed his eyes and Soul slowly followed the manner," I don't want to pressure you. Whatever your problem is, just know that I'll be glad to help any time." It was quiet before sparkling tears fell and splattered gracefully on the ground. Soul did not really know what to say but he guessed that his silent tears was more than enough of a response.
Black Star straightened moments later and Soul wondered if he was about to leave but he was suddenly enveloped in warmth and his head was pressed against the other male's chest. His red eyes widened when the arms around him tightened its hold and he finally relaxed in the embrace, his hands clutching Black Star's shirt. The calm beating of the bluenette's heart soothed him even more. His problem is currently embracing him, hoping to help with his trouble.
That is pretty odd.
But maybe abandoning his feelings for the other should not be an option. His best bet must be that he needs make the most of their months. Who knows, Sukeruton would probably be able to establish a portal that could enable wizards and witches to travel between their world and the human world. He would be able to see Black Star whenever he wanted, heck, even Liz and Patty when they both aren't being so weird. The human world actually has very nice species and it seems as though everybody are friends with each other. Everyone is caring, friendly, and minds their own business. Soul could see how such a non-magical world could function without the use of magic. It truly is miraculous.
It was a while, or maybe even minutes, when Soul sighed and moved away, or tried to that is. It seemed as though the other teen did not want to let him go.
" Black Star, you have to go."
" Why?" Soul sighed again.
" Because I... shouldn't be seen with you. I'm kind of going against the rules." It took a moment, but Black Star finally loosened his hold.
" You still look depressed."
" Did you really think crying and hugging was going to help?"
" Worth a shot." Soul was ready to hit the stupid bluenette but smiled. Black Star really is a good friend. It is no wonder how he is well known to others. Even if he is a bit air-headed and stubborn.
I haven't met a wizard or witch with those kind of qualities.
" Just... promise you won't mention this to anyone. I'm not really one to get so emotional but a lot has been on my mind."
About you.
The student held a thumb up.
" Promise. But if you ever have any more problems, my arms are always open." He added with a wink. Soul scowled as his cheeks grew hot and crossed his arms. He should have known that he would have gotten teased for it.
" Shut up. I guess... I'll see you tomorrow."
" I thought you shouldn't be seen with me." Black Star pointed out with a sly look. Soul puffed a red cheek.
" Well fine! I-I wasn't planning on coming to see you anyways!"
" Ah... Alright, I'm sorry. Don't be so harsh... Wu-" The blue-haired teen looked down in surprise to see Soul hugging him.
" But thanks for today and all. I'll see you during lunch then."
" U-uh... right." Soul hoped that his nuzzling against the male's chest wouldn't be too noticable. It is amazing that such a body could be hidden by a simple school uniform. God, he would give anything to lay against Black Star's firm body forever. And this time, he didn't mind the fluttering of his heart.
Evidently, he isn't the only one feeling this way.
And so, the days Soul and Black Star spent together are like a familiar schedule. Before 12 at noon, Soul would go out, claiming that he is going for walk, and meet Black Star at the café. Occasionaly, they would meet with Liz and Patty as well, who they grew fond of pretty quick. Then at night, the two males would privately meet on Soul's balcony and hang put for an hour or so. Soul realized that the closest they had ever gotten was holding hands. In a friendly way of course..!
As he did that, he was still doing his job of collecting the Kabū and Enerugī within the island. Both he and Maka had managed to fill up their lockets and emptied it into a special chest that stores high levels of magic. Slowly but progressively, they were also brainstorming ways to get into contact with Lord Death. Kid, doing most of the work, had already figured they would need their magic but they were all minors. Only a three-star wizard and witch could hold out a portal and it would take them years to get there. This meant that they needed a substitution of creating a connection.
As that weighed on their minds, three weeks had already passed before they knew it and that meant half a year already passed in Sukeruton.
" And where are you going?" Maka asked with narrowed eyes as she watched her partner heading toward the door.
" Just taking a walk."
" You sure take long walks."
" Is it a crime to? I'll be back in an hour or so."
" You said that yesterday but you came home at four!" His partner exclaimed and Soul fought down a blush. Well he and Black Star had been walking to the mansion when it started raining yet again. Unfortunately, Liz and Patty were there to tease about his red face when Black Star had plopped his jacket on his head usual. Now, he contained two of Black Star's jackets. Imagine if he had forgot his jacket and ended up taking off his dress shirt instead...
Maka frowned.
" Soul. You're drooling." Blinking out of his fantasy, Soul hastily rubbed his mouth dry. Damn, that is the second time he let such a thought take over. The second one occurred when Liz reminded Black Star that his fly was open and Patty laughed while he had just noticed. Soul had spaced out, thinking about things that are best left unsaid.
" I-I'll be going now." Maka left it at that.
" You're staying in your room again?" Kid asked when Soul had came through the door to head to his room.
" Yeah, why?"
" You just... never seem to come out once you go in." Coming to think of it, Soul could not remember the last time he went downstairs for dinner. Luckily, the large amounts of food everyone buys at the café fills him up. It was a good thing that Black Star was beside him; he did not know a single thing on the menu let alone know what Yen is.
" Well, you guys don't need to talk to me or anything, right?"
" I suppose but-"
" Great. Good night then."
" But it's only four-"
" Good night." Soul repeated from his room. Kid left it at that.
Under the moon's silhouette, two figures were currently watching it from atop a balcony. Occasionally, laughter would erupt from either one and the distance between them seemed to mysteriously disappear inch by inch.
Soul looked down and noticed how their arms brushed against each other slightly. It seemed that Black Star did not notice that they were definitely more closer to each other than usual but the wizard did not point it out. He actually felt this satisfy his heart. The fluttering was making him annoyed again.
Black Star finally looked at him with a curious gaze.
" I always wonder why you wear that all the time." He said while pointing at the ruby locket Soul was wearing around his neck. Soul blinked and sweated. What could he say?
Oh this? Yeah it just holds all the magic stored inside until I can transport it to my home world. Oh, I'm not an alien.
Stupid.
" U-Um... it's nothing important." He responded while grasping the necklace. He managed to fool Black Star into thinking he was a foreigner with his appearance. He really could not think of any more excuses of why he 'stands out' more." It's just some stupid necklace someone got me."
" Really? Why?" Soul shrugged and smiled.
" Uh... just for the heck of it, I guess. He's weird like that." Soul added a mental note of apologizing to Kid for adding any additional offensive comments. He needed to make his stories as convincing as possible.
Black Star glanced back at the moon and Soul looked down. He didn't know why but it felt as though the atmosphere had changed.
" Sorry." Soul said, causing the other teen to look back at him in surprise." I-I'm sorry if I said anything wrong." The wizard explained uncertainly. He just felt the sudden need to apologize for something he wasn't aware of doing.
" There's nothing to be sorry for," Black Star said with raised eyebrows," You're the weird one." Soul punched his arm but recieved little response.
" Shut up! I just... felt like it. Got a problem?"
" With how violent you are? Yes."
" Keep talking and I won't be the only one with a problem."
" Touchy."
Soul rolled his eyes and they both resumed their gazing at the moon. Once again, he had the feeling of being tranquil and he was positive that Black Star was at ease too. He always enjoyed their nights together, even just star-gazing together makes his day.
" Oh. There was something I wanted to ask you." Soul felt his heart beat increase and he looked up.
" I-Is that so?" Black Star was eyeing him with a serious expression and Soul, once again for the trillionth time, felt his cheeks glow. And he was sure that the moonlight made his blush clearly visible for the other male to see.
" You don't really have to but I was wondering if," He chose this moment to look up at the sky," ... if we could... hang out sometime." Soul laughed.
" Don't we always?"
" *sigh* I mean as in a date. Go on a date with me." The white haired teen blushed heavily at how boldly the request was stated. He was paralyzed on the spot and his lips quivered.
" B-but... but w-we're... us both... a date..." His mind was malfunctioning and he could not even produce a proper sentence. Both of them on a date. The movies, a restaurant, the park, holding hands, kissing...
At this point his mind had completely shut down.
" Soul?"
" Oh..."
" Are you alright?"
" O-Of course..."
" Your face is red."
" Allergies." Soul simply said with a sort of hazy look. Black Star stared at him curiously before smirking.
" Really? Well, I had better get going then." The wizard had finally stopped his third fantasy for the day and blinked in time just as Black Star had leaned closer toward him. Once again, Soul could have fried an egg on his face at that point.
" Wh-what are you doing?"
" Just thanking you before I leave." Soul wanted to ask what he meant by that but got his answer very clearly. Black Star leant down and pressed a firm kiss on his cheek.
Oh god oh god oh god oh god!
Just as Soul had recovered, Black Star was already leaving, apparently not aware that he just caused Soul to explode in the many colors of red and even purple.
" Bye, Soul."
" Oh..."
I can't do it! I can't do it! I can't do it! I really can't stop liking him!
His situation got even worse than it already was.
