Chapter 3: Continue
PERCY
This was getting ridiculous it was like one of those cheesy Saturday morning cartoons where the character was caught in a black hole or some sort of loop and just kept going and going. The odd feeling in the pit of his stomach didn't go away either he felt nauseas since this whole thing started.
Percy still worried about the rest of the crew, was the spiders gone? He shuddered to think about it. They had told Annabeth to go below decks but knowing that wise-girl she'd do anything to help. Percy just hoped and prayed it hadn't come to that because if she froze in that critical moment then it was over. Ok, he had to think about something less depressing.
Time here was strange. Sometimes it felt like he'd been falling for days while within the next second (it was hard to tell) it felt like it had only been a few minutes. He didn't feel tired and his wounds were gone so that wasn't so bad but if he wasn't tired didn't that mean it was only a few minutes or even only a few hours? At least, that's what he hoped for.
Perhaps at the end of all of this he really would go splat. Hours before he had screamed himself hoarse for nothing better to do. He'd even drug Riptide out of his pocket and kept dropping it and of course it appeared back in his pocket only for him to drop it again.
Percy tried everything in the book not to go back to his own mind but there was only so much to do when you were constantly falling and now he found himself drifting in and out of consciousness. It seemed like he was a lot more tired than he had previously thought. Alright just a little bit of shut-eye and that would be all, he didn't feel like he'd stop falling anytime soon.
LOST TIME
He was cold when he woke up and then the rapidly growing ground was coming at him at an alarming speed. It was also snowing like nobody's business and the ground looked like fluffy clouds. If he fell in that then he might not die, right?
He felt a little happy to know that his journey would be coming to an end even if he ended up bleeding out on the snow and then getting eaten by wolves or something. There wasn't any water around that he could manipulate either so that was out of the option for landing.
Since everything was covered in the fluffy whiteness he didn't recognize where he was at all. The hair on the back of his neck stood up because it was freak'n freezing out here and not only that but the ground had tripled in size, looks like he really would go splat.
He'd kept his wits about him until the moment a tree limb caught his shirt and he let out a scream for all he was worth. His arms came up to protect his face and he curled into the tightest ball he could. Percy hit the snow covered ground and waited to hear the snap and crunch of bones and oh did he hear it.
Now he wasn't willing to move for the first few seconds, his back ached and he wondered if he'd broken it and that he wouldn't be able to even crawl away because he'd be paralyzed and unable to move. Percy wiggled his toes and they moved so that was good and then next was his legs and they worked too.
His fingers curled until they made fists, this was good so far now for his back. Percy slowly started to sit up and besides what felt like a big bruise he spine didn't feel like it was at an awkward angle. Slowly and carefully he stood up in the freezing snow and he found the source of the crack, a small sapling was the victim of his fall.
He couldn't help but laugh at how unbelievably lucky he was but then again most of the things that happened to him did fall under the 'luck' category. "Oh gods, oh gods." He chanted while looking around this unfamiliar snowy plane.
First thing was to find somewhere to get warm. He huddled in on himself his arms hugging his upper half as a rather cold wind blew his way. He'd survived the fall so he couldn't die here and become a demi-god Popsicle.
Percy's internal compass was a mess so he followed the not so snowy side of the trees. His fingers and toes were numb and he couldn't feel his nose and suddenly he was so tired again. Fighting against harsh headwinds made for slow progress.
The last thing he remembered before he passed out was the sound of howling wolves, great so he really would get eaten by them. This was fan-freaking-tastic.
JASON
They, Jason and Nico, had gotten together five years ago which meant it'd been a good six years since Percy was last seen. Jason had admitted to Nico his feeling for him after the two had gotten hit by a stray spell from the Hecate cabin. Jason had been terrified of the son of Hades reaction, turns out it wasn't so bad.
At first they were awkward together. Jason didn't want to bring up Percy because it might hurt Nico but come to find out it was good for the both of them to talk as if their Sea Prince was still alive. After all Nico had felt not even a tingle to signal that Percy had passed on and Jason thought that it was much harder knowing that he was still out there.
It also happened that Nico's other major crush had been the son of Jupiter (which the spell had helped him to admit) and Jason was so not complaining because it couldn't have been better. The only thing the couple lamented about was the fact that they couldn't share this with Percy they didn't even have the chance to.
It wasn't that they would shove their relationship in his face but more to let their friend know that they were happy together. Now that Annabeth was dating both Piper and Reyna that maybe they could just be better friends with him. Jason knew Nico had a lot of regrets when it came to dealing with the son of Poseidon, so did he actually.
When Jason and Percy had first met he couldn't help but be a little jealous of the reckless green-eyed beauty. He had recognized the other teen's skill even then but didn't find out until later that the feeling of jealousy hadn't been the only thing that made his gut churn and make his palms sweaty.
Jason had only realized it when Nico was forced to admit who he liked to Cupid and he couldn't believe it had taken him that long. When Nico had finished his admittance it was like everything had just clicked into place. Then, with Nico's feeling factored in that he also loved Percy, Jason had felt immensely selfish with the fact that he liked not only Percy but Nico as well and that he couldn't choose between the two.
It had been a weird time for Jason because he was still in a relationship with Piper even though it was a fake. Jason had felt like he couldn't let her down and he had to try and be the best boyfriend he could be. Jason had never been gladder when he found out that Piper felt just as weird about their fake relationship as he had though it had taken them a while to actually break up officially.
There was one thing that each of them want and pray for each and every year and that is their Percy back in one piece, nothing else mattered. Until Nico felt him pass on they would never truly stop searching. Yet the more time that passed it made the both of them wonder.
It went unsaid but Jason and especially Nico were sure that Percy would never be found. Percy just dropped off the face of the earth and even if they saw him again would they know it was him? It's been 6 years, he was 22 now and he looked different than his teen self and especially Nico since he hit his growth spurt. So even if they passed each other on the street there was nothing to guarantee that they would even recognize each other.
LOST TIME
"You've still have three more alters to get done this week?" Nico asked while leaning over Jason's shoulder looking at the mess of papers spread out before the Roman.
"Yup now that I think about it I really wish I hadn't made that promise, do you have any idea how many freaking gods there are?" Jason sighed and pushed up his glasses. "Too many, way too many it's ridiculous."
"Not my problem Sparky." Nico teased and blew in his ear. "I did have something else planned for tonight but if you're too busy that's ok… I guess." The son of Hades licked a good strip from the top of Jason's ear down to the lobe.
Jason shuddered and tried to focus on his papers but Nico was relentless.
"F-fine, just one more plan to finalize before I drop off the proposal to the Vulcan kids." This time it was a minor Roman god.
"Great! I'll get the movie ready." Nico cackled while he disappeared through the doorway. Damn, he'd been tricked again.
"You're an ass!" Jason yelled after him as he tucked the papers into a manila folder. The whole process had become more formal and professional the older he got. It was a lot more efficient this way.
"I know for a fact you happen to like this ass," yelled Nico. Most likely he was making popcorn in preparation for the movie, they only usually got through half of it.
Jason couldn't deny it either so he just grinned as he sealed the envelope. He wondered what movie it would be this time, usually it was a Disney movie of some sort. He really hoped it wasn't Hercules, he'd been teased enough about that movie.
"So what movie is it this time?" He asked while dropping the envelope off in the mail container it where it disappeared after some drachmas were placed on top of it.
"It's horror I thought we could watch one of them for a change. I'm not sure which one I have it set to random so we could be watching anything to psychological to slasher." Jason thought he sounded way too giddy about it. Nico could handle his horror very well as expected of a son of Hades. Jason didn't like to admit it but he got a little spooked sometimes.
"Oh I'm so excited." He deadpanned and threw a harsh look at the smiling Ghost King.
"I know you are babe." Nico crooned and brought in the massive bowl of buttered popcorn and two bottles of water.
Jason settled in beside Nico when the other sat and the movie started.
It started off pretty normal, small town, some sort of weird chemical spill coupled with a freak electrical storm. What neither of them had expected were the giant mutated spiders that started picking off the townsfolk one by one.
It was like a train wreck Jason couldn't look away. Each hairy spider leg on screen were the ones that carried Percy off the deck of Argo II. It made his stomach flip and one glance over at Nico told him that his boyfriend was feeling much the same way.
Jason quickly grabbed the remote and shut the big flat screen TV off. He hadn't noticed it until now but his hands were shaking and his breathing was fast. Swallowing and purposefully focusing on his breathing he put the popcorn on the floor and grabbed Nico's hand.
"You ok?" Jason asked.
"Mmm I… yeah just you know." Oh did Jason know.
"Do you want to just go to bed?" Jason phrased it as a question but really he knew there would be no sleeping after this. Jason still had nightmares from the spiders.
"Shit Jay I didn't, I didn't know it was going to be like that." Nico sounded guilty for a random movie choice. It wasn't his fault.
"S'fine bed please." Jason stood first leaving no room for more talking until they were in bed.
Nico trailed behind him like a worried mother hen but remained silent until they were curled up next to each other in bed. Jason had a tight grip around Nico's middle and Nico stroked his fingers through the blonde's hair.
Jason hadn't been able to talk about it with Nico for a long time. When he did Jason felt stupid for not telling him sooner it felt like part of the burden was lifted but it never really would be. He blamed himself for what happened to Percy even though he knew there was nothing he could have done that wasn't. it still made his heart hurt.
Nico was and is Jason's pillar of support. The Roman only felt comfortable talking to him about it. Even though the others had been there as well he couldn't talk to them. The looks they gave him made his brain make up things like they all blamed him for it. It wasn't true but he really felt like it every time Annabeth looked at him with a faraway look.
The thought that Percy being gone was his fault crushed him. He knew that in reality it was Annabeth who blamed herself because she had been taken below decks because of her arachnophobia. But Jason was the one who had been on the upper deck, the one who could have done something, the one who should have done something.
He hated this because he felt tears prickle in the corners of his eyes and the soft reassurances from his boyfriend that he had done everything he could have done. It was true, it really was but Jason knew there was something more he could have done. There had to be something else.
LOST TIME
Jason woke with a start. He'd been dreaming of a much more gruesome outcome of what had happened aboard the Argo II. The movie had been watched over a week ago but the nightmares hadn't gone away yet. The blond felt bad because he could tell that it bothered Nico.
Of course his boyfriend would never say that it did but Jason knew better. The look he would give him was enough. Nico wasn't made either and Jason knew that but it was the guilt look because Nico blamed himself just as much as he did.
The blankets felt suffocating so Jason kicked them away and got out of bed. It was time to get up anyway. He'd make breakfast and do something to keep his mind off of freaking spiders.
He cracked a couple of eggs into the hot skillet and broke the yolks and added a bit of salt. Jason wasn't the best at cooking but he was very good at scrambled eggs, they were hard to ruin and Nico seemed to really enjoy them. Next was to toast some bread and cook up some bacon.
The smell of bacon eventually had Nico emerging from their bedroom licking his lips. "Why is bacon so good? I don't understand it, like what do they put in it that so many people love?"
"Such a philosophical question for such an early morning Nico, are you sure your brain can handle it?" He joked.
Nico snorted, "aren't we full of ourselves and so early in the morning. If I remember correctly it was I who filled you last night." Nico's smirk was downright sinful, his dark eyes glistened and even the unruly bedhead didn't stop him from screaming bad boy. Jason totally didn't mind.
"Sit your butt down or you won't get any of this delicious bacon." Jason shook one of the pieces that was fresh from the pan. Bacon had some pretty serious powers because in two seconds flat Nico was sitting like an angel at the table batting his eyes at Jason.
"Look how good I can be for you." Nico commented and Jason didn't doubt there was a double meaning in there somewhere.
"Not as good as when you sit pretty for me." Jason shot back which made Nico turn red and he loved it because the son of Hades blushed down his neck and onto his chest as well, it was adorable. "Right on my di-"
Nico cut him off, "don't you dare say it! I'll cut you!" Nico grabbed the wrong utensil as he brandished that fork in Jason's direction. "At least I'll stab you." He added.
"So it's totally ok if we talk about you giving it to me but on the other end of that you turn into a blushing girl on her wedding night when we talk about you taking it up the ass." Jason teased while Nico sputtered and tried to deny it but in the end he remained quiet.
"Give me the damn bacon!" Nico said while trying to hide his blush, "hate you by the way."
"Hate you too babe." Jason set the plate of bacon on the table and then retrieved the toast and scrambled eggs and two plates, the coffee wasn't ready yet. Frank had said it was all about timing in the kitchen and he was right.
They kissed and Jason made a comment about morning breath which earned him a well-deserved slap upside the head.
Jason felt good this morning like nothing could possibly go wrong today and even though he had a nightmare again this time it felt like he could finally maneuver in his dreams. Nico must have sensed it because he flashed Jason his pearly whites before dumping half the plate of bacon onto his own.
"Oh yeah Thalia should be here tomorrow. She's not staying over but I invited her for supper." Jason said while putting a little bit of everything on his plate.
"Mmhh you think she'll want Italian?" Nico groaned, "oh please don't."
"Italian you say?" Jason wriggled his eyebrows suggestively. "She can't have you, hands off she's in some weird lesbian cult anyway… How about homemade pizza?" His smile was nearly splitting his face while Nico looked bored and slightly irritated.
"Fine," Nico groaned and shoved a strip of bacon in his mouth. "You're going to have to clean though, I'm not lifting a finger." Jason just kept grinning.
NICO
After yesterday Jason had paid dearly. He couldn't walk without wincing and no it wasn't from a tumble in the sheets it was from a good spanking. Watching the blond Roman walk around gingerly made his lips curl up in a smile much like the Cheshire cat's. It was great.
While Jason cleaned Nico mixed up the dough and left it to rise. Next was the sauce which was also made from scratch with tomatoes from Italy curtesy of shadow-travelling, the garlic came that way as well. Soon it smelled delicious in there.
"Oh gods that smell Nico." Jason poked his head in from the entry way where he was putting away their extra shoes. "Do we really have to wait for supper? It's torture." Nico grinned.
"Because this is for your sister and you asked me and why have you stopped cleaning, do you want another round of my hand slapping your butt." Nico sounded like he was scolding a child.
The tips of Jason's ears turned red, "you're so mean you know that… of course you know that. Getting back to work."
Nico heard the low grumbles as Jason continued to clean up around the house. Jason wasn't actually mad at Nico this is usually how it was when someone came over. Nico would cook and Jason would clean. They were both very meticulous about keeping their house spic and span but even then sometimes they were just so busy.
Recently Nico had taken up going around to the children of the not-so-popular gods and goddesses and his purpose was to help them. Help them realize that they will stand the best chance at camp and that even if someone is mean to them they have to be the bigger person. Nico knows he wasn't, especially with Percy.
It was really hard sometimes, the kids were sometimes so convinced that either they were hated or they hated the others that it was hard to break their outer shell. To Nico it always seemed that there was at least one other person on their team and sometimes it turned out that other person was very toxic to the child. In his case that toxic person had been a ghost.
Nico wished they had something like that when he was new to the whole demi-god thing. The person who had even made this possible was of course Percy. After all it was the green-eyed teen who had started the whole 'recognizing every god and goddess' bit. Nico was sure that Percy would be proud of him and he really hoped he would be.
That's another thing. Percy, Nico didn't like to talk about him because he was almost sure that he was dead. How could he not be? It wouldn't be like Percy to just up and disappear especially not after the story Jason had told him countless times after waking up from a nightmare.
Even though he hadn't felt any sign of him passing he just knew. It wasn't like they were all that close even though Nico liked to think they were. Of course he wouldn't feel it and it hurt because how could he be alive? Nico felt like a broken record.
It'd been 6 years anyway and there wasn't a sign of that reckless son of Poseidon anywhere. That wasn't the Percy Nico knew. The guy was loyal to a fault. Nico shook his head and heaved a sigh, these thoughts were not productive they were downright depressing.
LOST TIME
Nico had pulled the last pizza out of the oven when the front door burst open and a couple of wolves came in panting heavily. Thalia came in right behind them.
"Get more blankets, get the electric one and some water now! Come on boys move!" The huntress was carrying something and as she kicked open their bedroom door.
Nico shared a look with Jason before they both sprung into action. Jason getting the blankets and Nico getting the water.
Cautiously Nico entered the bedroom and held out of the cup as a sort of peace offering to the order-barking huntress. She snatched it after situating there unintended house guest and slowly brought it to their lips. If it weren't for the fur the other huntress was wearing Nico might have known who it was.
"Did you get attacked on your way here?" He ventured to ask.
"No… I-I… I don't even." She put the glass on the side table. "He just… out of no where and, oh gods Nico it's him." Her electric blue eyes were wide.
Him? "Him?"
Jason entered then and dumped the blankets on the bed as Thalia reached up and pulled the hood back to reveal raven hair, long and dark lashes, sun kissed skin and the unmistakable lips of Percy Jackson. Nico's brain stopped working.
…..
What a place to end it eh?
What do you think? =)
