A/N: Hello my lovely readers. Please don't hate me to much, and trust me i know how long it's been since i updated.

This story is becoming a little harder for me to write. I guess it's mainly because i'm still mapping out my story line and how long i want this story to actually be.

But thank you again for sticking with it and i love all the review you give me. This is part one of a double update. The second one will be up shortly. Please ignore any grammar errors, but please let me know if the story doesn't make sense at anytime.

Enjoy!

Caroline put her ear phones in and placed her phone in the little basket beside her bathtub, it was a long day at work so she needed a way to relax.

She didn't want to return to reality after her weekend with Klaus but she did because he left for his business trip. So Caroline did what she did best, drowned herself in work. She was at an animal benefit Monday night, a record release party on Tuesday night and an art festival all day Wednesday.

She was relieved that tonight she had no plans because her body needed a little breather and it being late in the week made it better. Her schedule got packed for the final week of July because everything she was hoping her intern would do landed on top of everything else she already had scheduled. Caroline was never fond of firing people but April was not cutting it at the Chronicle so she let her go and immediately started browsing through old applicants.

Caroline let her body relax into the warm bath water as Florence + The Machines filled her ears while a wet washcloth covered her eyes. She felt herself drifting to sleep when her head fell to the side.

She twitched when the soothing melodies were interrupted by a ringing in her ears, she sighed in annoyance pushing the little button on her ear phones to answer the call.

"Hello," she said with a hint of annoyance.

"Evening sweetheart," Klaus said smiling as he laid down on his bed, "I hope I'm not disturbing you."

Caroline smiled as she pulled the rag from her face, "no but if it was anyone else they would be."

Klaus chuckled, "good to know," he paused, "how's your week so far love."

Caroline sighed, "Busy and it's only just begun because I'll be working all weekend. I'm surprised I'm actually free tonight," she chuckled lightly.

Klaus smiled he hasn't spoken with Caroline since she said good bye this past Sunday. After Klaus arrived in Chicago he and Kol set up operation in their family's old flat from when they would vacation in America. It hasn't been used in ages. In fact Klaus never really liked coming there because it was Mikael's, but it was the base of operation while they were in town and where Lexi would be staying.

They've been here for three days already getting everything set up for their meeting with Alexander tomorrow night. Klaus and Kol had rooms under their cover names at the Drake Hotel waiting for their check in tonight because that was when they were expected.

Alexander expected Klaus or Dean Walker to already be in town by Thursday along with his fiancé Bella Lavio (Rose), a French model he met while she was on location in London. Klaus found out that Alexander had the tendency to go after women he couldn't have, what better bait then a woman engaged. They were all planning to meet for dinner on Friday to discuss the Hunter business in Europe and reevaluate the terms since Conner's death.

Kol was staying in the same hotel under Alexander's requests plus Kol and Klaus supposedly only met that once at Conner's party. Kol checked into his hotel room last night and Klaus isn't due in Chicago until tonight, as far as Alexander knows. Klaus was hoping this job went smoothly because he wanted to head back to San Francisco by Saturday night.

He and Kol spent these past days prepping and he didn't find the time to call Caroline, he was only able to send a text now and then, "So, what are you doing with your night off," he asked.

Caroline smirked, "you actually caught me in the middle of my relaxation."

Klaus chuckled, "really and what might that be."

"I'm in the bath."

Klaus smirked as an image of Caroline's naked body flashed into his head, "I see."

Caroline chuckled, "yup my body is engulfed in warm water, hidden by a thin sheet of bubbles."

Klaus smiled at her use of words, "well I'm terribly sorry for disturbing you love. Should I call back later?"

"Don't be silly I'm glad to actually speak to you instead of reading a response," Caroline smiled as she turned on the hot water for a bit with her feet so it could over power the cold creeping up on her. "You know some girls may think it rude of their lover to just take off right after sleeping with them."

Klaus chuckled running his hand through his hair stretching in bed, "well I guess it's a good thing you're more than just my lover."

Caroline felt her stomach fill with butterflies, "really?"

Klaus smiled as he let out a breath because he saw Caroline as more than just a lover, she meant more to him than just a warm body, "yes I think introducing you as my lover would be rather insulting, especially since girlfriend is a term far more tasteful."

Caroline couldn't help the smile that spread across your face, "are you asking me to be your girlfriend Nik?"

He chuckled, "what else have we been doing Caroline; all the time we've spent together would seem only logical for you to be my girlfriend."

Caroline giggled feeling herself blush, "here I thought we were just being friendly."

Klaus smiled softly letting out a breath, "tell me when you last felt like my friend?"

Caroline went quite because he had a point, she's felt more than just a friend to Klaus since he cleaned her bloody hands, "touché."

Klaus smirked about to reply when someone knocked on his door, he sighed, "I'm sorry sweetheart I have to go now, duty calls."

Caroline nodded, "ok good night Nik."

Klaus smiled as he sat up in his bed, "night love."

Caroline let out a breath hanging up the phone pulling out her earphones before sinking down into the water to calm down.

Klaus ran his hands through his hair smiling as he stood up from the bed to answer his door, "Rose, what can I do for you?"

She smiled, "well Kol said he is going to go check into the hotel now and he wanted me to fetch you." Rose's hair was now blonde as the extensions made her hair got past her shoulders.

Klaus nodded as he stepped out of his room closing the door, "shall we," he smiled as he had Rose walk in front of him. They walked down the stairs and Klaus saw Kol waiting by the door with the luggage.

"Are you ready brother?"

Klaus smirked, "more then you know," he picked up his bags as they left the house.

"Yes," Caroline said through the speaker phone annoyed because she was busy with her deadline only a few hours away for her section. If she wanted this section to be ready for the weekend edition she needed to finish.

"You have a visitor Miss. Forbes," her temp Becky said, she'd be there until Caroline hired a new intern.

"I'm busy right now," she answered because she was going over the dummy sheets, that were scattered across her desk, for her section still debating what photos she was going to use for the stories.

"Also I need you to have Jesse come to my office for photo review." Jessica was putting the finishing touches on the stories when she asked Caroline to go over the layout. It was already the afternoon and her Friday was starting to irritate her, she just wanted to go home.

"Ok but you're guest, it's Stefan Salvatore."

Caroline stopped her movements, "Send him in."

Stefan knocked on the door as he opened it, "hello."

Caroline smiled, "come in Stefan," she walked around her desk holding out her hand, "it's nice to see you."

Stefan smiled shaking her hand, "likewise, I hope I'm not interrupting."

"No of course not, please have a seat," Caroline waved her hand in the air motioning for him to sit down in front of her desk, "what can I help you with."

"Well" Stefan replied taking a seat, "I'm actually here just to say thank you for writing such a great article, because of it Silas said my exhibit sold out in record time. In fact the few remaining pieces sold just last night."

"Wow congratulations, and it was no trouble at all. I'm just happy you liked the article," Caroline smiled, "plus I'm pretty sure it was your work that sold itself."

"Yes well none the less thank you," Stefan said smiling, "and there was one more thing," Stefan stood up placing a package he was holding on her desk, "consider this my thank you gift."

Caroline scrunched her eyebrows smiling, "Aww you didn't have to," she opened it to see the same big eyes she admired at his opening staring back at her, "Stefan," she breathed, "I can't possibly accept this."

Stefan waved his hand in the air, "don't be ridiculous, I saw you admiring only this piece at the gallery so I thought it's the least I could do."

Caroline was in awe as her fingers grazed over the glass protecting the photo, "thank you."

Stefan smiled, "no problem now for the other thing."

Caroline looked up at him, "what other thing."

He picked up a piece of paper on her desk and wrote down his address and phone number, "I'd still be happy to show you your way around a camera, give me a call some time so we can schedule something," he smiled putting the paper in front of her.

"That'd be amazing," she smiled standing up from behind her desk walking around to give him a hug, "thank you Stefan this a beautiful gift."

Stefan smiled nodding, "you're welcome. I better get going Rebekah and I are meeting for lunch, and you don't want to keep her waiting," he chuckled.

Caroline nodded, "of course."

Stefan smiled walking out of Caroline's office. Caroline held up the photo and smiled before walking to her right hand wall taking down one of her press awards for best feature and replacing it with that photo. She put the award in her desk as another knock came at the door and Jesse peeked in, "you wanted to see me."

Caroline motioned for him to come in as she started arranging things on her desk. She moved her mouse to awaken her computer to access the photos for layout taking a seat as Jesse walked around her desk.

"It's time to pick the photos. We're running the features for the three street artists I interviewed at the art festival downtown this weekend."

Jesse nodded as he took over Caroline's mouse to pull up the photos from her server, "I got some really good shots of the artist demonstrating their art, but if those won't fit I think a nice clean headshot with their pieces in the background should do the trick," he said as he showed Caroline the photos.

She leaned forward looking at the pictures moving Jesse's hand so she could use the mouse to choose the one's she did like, "these three for the painter," she said tabbing her screen before moving on to the others, "this one for the sketch artist, and" she paused going through the final photos for a sculptor, "these two for the sculptor."

Jesse looked through her selection and nodded, "alright I'll get you cutlines," he turned his head and smiled at her, "was that all you need Care?"

Caroline nodded standing up as she looked down at her layout pages, "yes those photos should fit nicely," she looked up and smiled, "thanks Jesse."

He nodded shrugging, "no problem it's my job," he smiled, "so are you working this weekend?" Jesse walked around her desk leaning on it with his hands.

Caroline looked up from her desk holding a paper nodding, "Yes I have a restaurant opening on Saturday morning followed by a benefit concert at the Warfield Theater, don't worry I can shoot photos for both events. I believe Jessica has assignments for you and Derrick this weekend anyway."

Jesse nodded, "well too bad because it'd be nice to work with my favorite reporter," he smirked pushing himself off her desk, "have a good day Caroline," he winks walking to her door

Caroline rolled her eyes waving Jesse off as he walked out of her office as she sat back behind her desk only to hear her phone start ringing, "come on I can't catch break," she sighed answering the phone, "Good afternoon this is Caroline Forbes with the San Francisco Chronicle, how can I help you?"

"Hey Caroline, it's Ian" he said politely on the other line.

Caroline smiled, "Ian," she breathed in relief, "how've you been?"

"Good but busy. It seems with the summer winding down everyone wants to get a slot at the theater," Ian chuckled, "which is why I am calling. I understand you'll be the one coming tomorrow night for the benefit show?"

Caroline nodded, "yeah I hope you don't mind?"

"Of course I don't mind, why would you think I'd mind?"

She put her hand to her face mentally scolding herself, "no reason, but yes it'll be me since Warfield has kind of been my beat, my boss would prefer it stays that way."

"Great I look forward to seeing you Caroline," Ian said softly before hanging up.

Caroline looked at her phone and took a breath putting it back on the receiver before she dived back into her work.

Klaus buttoned up his suit jacket slipping his phone in the inside pocket, "Rose are you ready?" he called turning away from the mirror in the common area in their hotel room. Klaus slept on the couch while Rose took the room, since they were supposed to be engaged it wouldn't look right getting a room with two bedrooms. They were meeting Kol, Damon and Galen in the hotel bar for drinks before making their way to the restaurant for dinner with Alexander.

Rose walked out of the room in black pumps wearing a short silver halter top dress that hugged her curves as she wrapped her neck with a long silver chain necklace, and covered her wrist's with some bracelets. Her now blonde hair was in soft curls surrounding her face but she put in blue contacts to compliment and applied smoky make-up to her eyes. Rose smiled at Klaus, "how do I look?"

Klaus nodded, "you look beautiful," he smiled holding out his arm, "shall we Miss. Lavio." Rose smiled reaching out for Klaus' arm as they headed down to the bar.

"Mr. Walker so wonderful of you to join us," Alexander said as he stood up from the lounge chair in the hotel bar. Klaus wasn't expecting to see this man until dinner, but ignored the surprise as he walked up to him with Rose on his arm.

"Alexander I'm glad you could join us for a quick drink," he smiled as he turned to Rose, "allow me to introduce you to my fiancé Bella Lavio."

Rose leaned forward holding out her hand smiling, "charmed."

Alexander smirked as he took her hand and placed a kiss on it, "you're a lucky man Dean, she's beautiful."

Klaus wrapped his arm around Rose's waist pulling her close in a possessive manner, "yes which is why I'm marrying her," he smiled at her before looking back at Alexander noticing the way he looked Rose up and down.

"Of course," Alexander said before clapping his hands together, "I'm actually here to pick everyone up for dinner."

Klaus nodded as he glared at Damon, Kol and Galen for not informing him that Alexander would be there, "I thought our dinner arrangements weren't for another hour?"

He waved his hand in air, "Yes they were but I have things to attend to so I'd rather us go over our business as quickly as possible" he turned and walked toward the door.

Galen shrugged as he walked after Alexander. Klaus looked at Kol and Damon, "be ready for anything." They nodded as they walked toward the door.

Alexander led them to his limo opening the door for Rose, "ladies first," he smiled. She chuckled letting go of Klaus' arm to slide in. Klaus was about to follow but Alexander got in first. He smirked before getting in to sit next to Rose as Alexander sat on the other side of her.

The drive to the limo wasn't very interesting to everyone else expect Rose and Alexander because it seemed he wasted no time on turning on his charm. Klaus didn't care as long as the plan worked and Rose didn't get hurt.

Alexander and Rose talked the entire trip as Klaus simply looked out the limo window. As soon as they arrived at the restaurant Rose got out first and Alexander was going to quickly follow but Klaus cut him off getting out first and quickly looping Rose's arm in her. He noticed the look of disapproval on his face as he motioned for them to follow him into the restaurant.

Klaus smirked as they walked behind him.

"Evening Ericka, is our table ready?"

"Yes of course Mr. Novak," she picked up their menus, "follow me."

Ericka lead them to a table in the corner of the restaurant, it was private allowing them to talk. She asked them for their drink orders before leaving telling them she'll send over a waitress.

"So is the first time you've been to Chicago," Alexander asked.

Klaus shook his head, "no we've visited the windy city a few times, mostly just as drive up from out vacations in New York."

Alexander nodded unbuttoning his suit jacket, "Tell me what you enjoy about the city," he smiled at Rose

"The shops," she smiled.

He laughed, "of course what woman doesn't like shopping, and I bet Klaus forks over whatever you'd like."

Klaus chuckled as the hostess returned with her drink, "you'd be surprised on what it takes to keep her happy," he smiled at her kissing her hand, "it's not about the money."

"Hmmph," Alexander remarked taking his scotch of the waitress and gulping it down, "well then let's have some dinner."

Each of them placed their orders with the small blonde waitress. Dinner went by fairly quickly as each of them tried their hands at small talk and Alexander flirted with Rose, even offering a piece of his food. Klaus wanted to punch him in the face just out of principal.

"I'm going to go freshen up," Rose smiled as she kissed Klaus on the cheek before walking toward the bathroom.

Klaus smiled as Alexander watched her walk away.

"Alright let's cut to the chase," Alexander said looking at Klaus and Damon now that Rose walked away from the table. "I want the hunter formula back."

"What," Galen said in shock looking between Klaus and Alexander, "they paid for it and it's doing very on the European market."

Alexander waved him off with his hand as he leaned closer to the table eyes them, "I want it back, that is all I called you out here for is to make sure you give me the formula back as well as make sure you weren't stupid enough to duplicate it."

Klaus chuckled picking up his brandy and taking a sip, "No," he said flatly his eyes looking up to meet a glare from Alexander. "Like Galen said we paid for the formula and it's makes top profit out in Europe, and that my friend is thanks to us."

"I don't give a rats ass if there selling arms and limbs for the damn drug. That formula belonged to Conner and I will have it back so I know his drug is sold on in the states," Alexander spat back.

Klaus shook his head, "you're not thinking this through mate. Conner was a good man, smart, but hesitant like yourself. The Hunter drug is doing extremely well on the European circuit and people are paying a pretty penny to get a piece of it. Since the time we've started producing it we have nearly doubled your profits, and that's just in London. Imagine what we could do when we start branching out the profits would surely be more than satisfying."

Galen looked at Alexander seeing that he was thinking it over, "He's right Alexander, the fiures show that since we've hit the market in London the numbers have doubled. We need him."

Alexander scuffed glaring at Galen, "we don't need anybody. This drug speaks for itself and Conner understood that, the Five understands that."

Klaus took a mental note to have Lexi start hunting down whatever "The Five" is. He leaned on the table looking at Alexander, "Then bring me in as a partner instead of just your drug pusher out in London. Make us your European partner and I promise The Hunter will infect a lot more cities."

"Will be able to break into the Paris market as soon as we get back, just to show you what we mean when we say your profits will be more than satisfying," Damon said smirking as he picked up his drink in front of him.

Alexander looked between the two and then at Galen. He took a deep breath thinking of his options before smiling, "I am having a party tomorrow night at my apartment, you must come," he stood buttoning his jacket.

Everyone else at the table stood along with him and Galen spoke first, "so is that a yes?"

Alexander looked at Galen and smirked tapping his shoulder, "come to the party tomorrow night and I'll have my decision by then," he nodded looking at Klaus and Damon, "Dean, Christopher, I'll see you two tomorrow night," he held out his hand for them to shake.

"Wouldn't miss it," Klaus replied shaking his hand glancing at Galen and Kol who merely shrugged as they walked with Alexander toward the exit.

Klaus and Damon looked at each other, "what do you think he's planning," Damon asked.

Klaus shrugged watching them walk out, "I don't know but will handle it. Alexander said they're 'The Five' so that possible means there are two more players in the game," Klaus stated as he buttoned up his suit jacket. "Let's get Rose and go see Lexi. We need to see if she finds any more information on these five."

Caroline stepped out of her cab still dressed in her pencil skirt, red silk blouse and red heels. She flung her purse over her shoulder sighing as she walked toward the restaurant looking forward to seeing Matt. It's been awhile since just the two of them had dinner.

She walked into the busy restaurant her eyes skimming over the crowd in search of a mess of blonde hair. She smiled when she saw him left up her hand waving her down. She told the hostess she was meeting her party and moved passed the crowd of people waiting for a table.

"Hey," she smiled brightly walking up to Matt for a hung.

Matt wrapped his arms around Care hugging her tightly, "hey Care we need to stop waiting so long to catch up."

She pulled back, "I know it's just I've been crazy busy lately, which is why I'm still in my work clothes," she sighed stepping toward Ben and kissing him on the cheek, "hey you."

Ben smiled, "Caroline lovely to see you. You look gorgeous by the way."

Caroline chuckled taking a seat putting her purse on the chair handle, "Thanks," she breathed pulling her napkin off the table placing it in her lab before picking up the menu, "so what's good here."

Matt and Ben looked at each other chuckling before Matt pushed her menus down from her face, "take a breath Caroline what's the rush."

Caroline chuckled taking a breath, "I'm sorry I've been on the go all day and it's just taking a while to hit the brakes."

Ben chuckled, "here have a drink," he smiled pouring her some wine from the bottle at the table, "now take a drink and just relax. We're here to have dinner not fast food."

Caroline smiled warming at Ben as she picked up her wine glass, "thank you guys I needed a night away from reporter duties." Ben and Matt clinked their glass against hers all taking a small sip of the red wine.

Matt smiled, "so besides work, how are you? The last time we talked you were about to head on a date," he smirked.

Caroline told Matt all the detail of her and Klaus' first date, leaving out the bedroom details. She was still talking when the waitress came to take their order.

"Sounds like you found yourself a keeper," Matt said picking up his wine.

Caroline smiled but shrugged, "it's still too early to say that. I mean it was one date."

Matt rolled his eyes, "really Care you're going to act like this was you two's first date. If you ask me I would say you two have been dating for a few weeks now," he smirked.

Ben chuckled seeing Caroline's face go red, "Where did you meet him?"

Caroline smiled bringing her wine glass to her lips mumbling, "He's my neighbor."

Ben nodded, "nice and you really like him?"

Caroline nodded, "yes."

He shrugged, "then what's the problem."

Caroline took a breath and shrugged because he was right what was wrong. Every time Caroline thought about Klaus she couldn't help but smile or get little butterflies in her stomach, but there was something holding her back and she didn't know what.

"Ok the only way you're going to get out of this is if you let me ask you a series of questions and you have to answer them with one word, ok?" Matt looked at her lifting an eyebrow.

Caroline rolled her eye she knew this was the only way she was going to have Matt drop the idea that she might actually more than like Klaus, "fine you can ask five."

"Great," Matt smiled in triumph as Ben chuckled, "you ready?"

Caroline smiled nodded picking up her wine glass and gulping down the rest, "bring it."

"How do you feel when you're around him?"

"Safe"

"When he touches your arm or back how does it feel?"

"Tingly"

Matt smirked, "How often do you think about him?"

Caroline hesitated but Matt pointed his finger at her and she sighed, "Everyday"

"How is he in bed?"

"Matt!" Caroline shouted her eyes widening.

Matt rolled his eyes, "just answer the question."

"Mind blowing," she mumbled.

"I didn't hear you Care," he smirked.

She scuffed, "Mind blowing," she said louder.

"Alright last question," Matt leaned forward smiling, "do you miss him?"'

Caroline took a breath because it was getting a little harder to ignore the fact that Klaus has become a part of her life in a very big way, and she never wanted him to leave. So she nodded, "Yes"

Matt smiled picking up his wine glass, "I rest my case," he chuckled taking a sip of his wine.

Ben looked at Caroline and noticed she was deep in thought, "Caroline I haven't known you very long but you're glowing and I think it has something to do with this Klaus fellow."

Caroline smiled looking at Ben and Matt as they nodded their head, "how is this even possible I never felt this way with Tyler and I was supposedly in love with him for five years," she grabbed the bottle from the middle of the table and poured herself another glass of wine.

"It feels like it's too soon, it's only been a few months since everything that happen with Tyler," Caroline was starting to freak out a little and quickly drank her wine.

Matt put his hand on Caroline's to calm her down, "and who has been there helping you through this whole Tyler and Trevor nonsense."

Caroline lowered the wine glass her eyes peeking over the rim, "Klaus."

Matt nodded his head sitting back in his chair sipping his wine as Caroline realized that Matt wasn't wrong. The waitress placed their food in front of each of them as they continued to have dinner and the conversation drifts elsewhere.

Caroline found out that Matt was offered a full-time position at Lockwood firm as soon as he graduates and passes the bar. The reason for the offer was because he helped Tyler's uncle Mason win a major embezzlement case when he found the guilty parties off shore accounts.

Ben told them he was offered a new chef position at a five-star restaurant right in downtown San Francisco. He admitted he was still a little nervous about accepting the position because the café he worked at helped him build his career, but this offer has been something he's always wanted.

Caroline gave Matt and Ben a kiss on the cheek before she got in her cab, "Thanks for dinner you guys it was fun. We need to do it again sometime," she smiled opening her cab door.

"Next time let's make it a double date," Ben smiled.

Caroline chuckled getting in to her cab, "deal night you two," they closed her door waving at her as she told the cab driver to take her home.

Klaus was lying on the couch with his hand behind his head thinking about tomorrow. He knew this plan needed to go smoothly if he wanted to be home by Sunday. He was happy Lexi was able to find out that Alexander was hiding a few things, the big one was he had a family. A little girl to be exact and a wife, but for some reason it seems he was a very unfaithful husband. The five was a band of brothers who served in the military together; Conner, Galen, Alexander, Ramon and Zackary were all a part of the same assault team. Each of them dishonorably discharged for reasons unknown. He took a deep breath and finally closed his eyes to try and get some sleep. It was already after midnight when he heard his phone start ringing. He sighed leaning over the couch to pick up his phone, smiling when he saw it was Caroline's number.

"You do realize it's after midnight here love," he chuckled.

Caroline giggled, "I'm sorry did I wake you."

Klaus put his arm back behind his head smiling, "don't be sorry love, I was awake."

She smiled, "good." Adjusting herself in bed so she was lying on her side holding the phone.

It got quite as both of them held their phone to their ears smiling.

"So how was your day?" she finally asked.

"Uneventful, business meetings, contract deals and planning committees," Klaus sighed he didn't like the feeling he got in his stomach when he lied to Caroline.

"Well that's no fun."

"Yes, enough about my day how was yours sweetheart?"

Caroline laid on her back smiling, "rather eventful actually."

"Really, do tell," he chuckled.

"I was in my office all day working on layout, but I got a surprise visit from Stefan and then I had dinner with Matt and Ben."

"Stefan, really, what did he want," Klaus asked

"Remember his photo I was admiring at his gallery opening?"

"Yes."

Caroline smiled, "weelllll, he kind of gave it me."

"Really, well that was awfully nice of him," Klaus said a little tense, couldn't help the feeling of jealousy go through him because he wanted to be the one to make Caroline smile with that photo.

"He said it was a thank you for my article and how that article helped him sell out his show," she chuckled.

"Well it seems Stefan beat me to it," he chuckled.

"What do you mean?"

"I was about to buy that photograph for you but Silas told me that it wasn't for sale, now I know way," he smiled when he heard her giggle.

"Klaus you wouldn't have had to do that," she smiled playing with a strand of her hair.

"Yeah, but I wanted to."

They both got silent just listening to each breath softly, Caroline was so comfortable she almost fell asleep. Klaus broke their silence, "did you enjoy dinner with Matt?"

Caroline suddenly got butterflies in her stomach smiling, "I did," she paused, "it was eye opening."

Klaus chuckled, "really how so?"

Caroline couldn't suppress a yawn, as she spoke, "it was just a nice dinner. We haven't seen each other in a while," she finished yawning, "sorry."

"It's ok, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself," Klaus said his voice trailing off a little at the end as he looked up and noticed Rose standing over him in her underwear smiling seductively at him. He cocked an eyebrow at her in confusion as he sat up holding his phone.

"Sweetheart get some sleep, I'll call you tomorrow," he said softly when he heard her yawn again but eyeing Rose as she moved toward him. He put up his hand stopping her shaking his head.

Caroline smiled pulling the blankets close, "alright good night Klaus."

"Night love," he stood up from the couch and hung up the phone.

Klaus looked at Rose and took his blanket off the couch handing it to her. She took it from him and wrapped it around her body confused.

"What are you doing Rose?"

She sat on the edge of the couch, "I thought," she motioned between her and Klaus.

"Oh," was all he could say. He sat down on the couch beside her, "Rose you're a wonderful woman and I'm sorry if I ever gave you the wrong impression on our relationship."

She buried her head in her hands shaking her head mumbling, "oh god I'm such an idiot."

Klaus sat down next to her rubbing her back, "No you're not an idiot and trust me if this happen a few months ago probably would've obliged," he chuckled trying to lighten the mood, "but it's different now Rose."

She nodded pulling the blanket close to her before glancing at him, "is that different who you were talking to."

Klaus nodded, "yes, she's a wonderful woman. I'm sure you two would get a long if you ever meet."

Rose chuckled darkly standing up, "I doubt that. Because I doubt that she knows how I'm a part of your life," she eyed him as he stood up from the couch.

"No need to be rude Rose," Klaus retorted, "I apologize you got the wrong impression of our relationship but trust me when I say this is strictly professional."

Rose nodded, "understood, but let me say this. You wouldn't have to lie to me," she said softly before walking back toward her room.

Klaus took a deep breath running his hand over his face.
