Caroline walked into the living room of her apartment with all her reporting material ready. She had a busy morning with the restaurant opening and spent the rest of the afternoon in her office writing and editing photos. After a relaxing shower and quick cat nap she was ready for the concert benefit at the Warfield Theater, and it being a Saturday night she was running late if she was going to take a cab because the doors opened at 9:30 p.m. with the first act going on at 10 p.m. Ian told her the main act was Muford and Sons, a band she's always wanted to see.

After having dinner with Matt and Ben it was nice to get to work. It was still hard for her to process the fact that she actually might love Klaus already. She was still mentally scolding herself for letting Matt knit pick at her relationship with Klaus. She already knows how much she likes him, he called her his girlfriend for crying out loud, but did she really love him. She sighed as she pushed her bag up her shoulder.

Caroline was ready to head to the benefit concert feeling refreshed after her busy morning. She looked around her apartment to make sure she didn't forget anything, satisfied she headed to the door, freezing in place after she opened it.

"Hello Caroline," he cooed looking up at her smiling, "you didn't think I'd forget about you did you."

Caroline looked at Trevor and her body was struck with fear and without hesitation she tried slamming the door but was blocked by his foot.

She screamed, "No," pushing at it with all her strength as her heels scratched against the floor.

"Open the door Caroline;" Trevor called softly, "it's rude to leave guests unattended."

She drove her heel into his foot causing him to yelp in pain as his foot slid out of the doorway. She slammed it shut quickly locking it as her heart started racing. She backed away from the door as her breathing became fast as his voice got more forceful.

"Open the door Caroline!" he started to shout as he jiggled the door knob.

Caroline slid her phone out of her pocket and dialed the first person she thought of.

Klaus laughed with his arm around Rose as they entertained Alexander at the bar inside his grand apartment on the 25th floor. Since they arrived at the party Klaus still hasn't seen Kol or Galen, a bad feeling was growing in his stomach when he felt his phone start vibrating in his pocket. He pulled it out to see Caroline's number, he hit ignore. His original phone was still in the hotel room, but when he's on jobs he forwards all his calls to his work phone.

Rose looked at him smiling, "who was it?"

He shook his head, "it can wait," he picked up his scotch, "besides we're in great company," he raised his glass to Alexander feeling his phone vibrate again.

Rose stepped out of Klaus' arms eyeing him, "you should answer it, I'll keep Alexander entertained," she said annoyed as she turned her attention to Alexander.

"Go attend to your business Dean, she'll be fine," Alexander said smirking.

Klaus laughed bitterly, "of course," he kissed her head "I'll be right back darling." With his phone vibrating in his hand he walked toward the balcony for privacy.

"Love right now is not a good time," he said softly answering his phone.

"Klaus he's here," Caroline said panicked causing Klaus to stand up straight,

"What, who's there," he said concerned hearing loud knocks in the background and Caroline's breathing come in fast breaths.

"Trevor," she shouted grabbing her kitchen chair pushing it against the door.

"What!" Klaus said in a panic as he felt his fist clench as he looked around frantically.

"I don't know what to do Klaus he's not leaving," she said trying to keep her voice steady but her fear was becoming more and more vibrant. "He's already trying to force the door open."

Klaus pinched the bridge of his nose, "get away from the door sweetheart and go to your office, lock yourself in there. I'm going to send someone over."

"Ok," she breathed running to her office locking the door, "Klaus I'm scared."

"I know love I know, but trust me," Klaus said calmly, "he's never going to hurt you."

Caroline slide down her office door tears falling from her eyes, "how can you be so sure you're not here."

"I know and I'm sorry I'm not sweetheart but please just trust me ok?"

Caroline nodded without realizing she wasn't answering,

"Caroline," Klaus asked concerned when she didn't respond.

"Ok," she said taking a deep breath.

"I'm going to have to hang up the phone now darling to call someone."

"No please," she said frantically.

"Caroline listen he'll be there in a matter of minutes, but you have to let me call him," Klaus said calming her down.

"Please hurry," she said before hanging up the phone, flinching when she heard a loud bang and his voice grow stronger.

Klaus cursed under his breath and he dialed Elijah.

"Niklaus what's wrong? Did something happen?"

"Elijah listen I need you to go to Caroline's apartment," he said ignoring his brother's question.

"What why? Niklaus you are on a job that should be your top priority," Elijah said annoyed.

"Shut it Elijah," Klaus growled, "She's in trouble and I'm asking you as my brother please go to her apartment."

Elijah pinched the bridge of his nose, "very well, where does she live."

Klaus sighed in relief, "she's my neighbor. She lives across the hall."

Elijah nodded, "I'm leaving now."

"Thank you, and please call me when you see her," Klaus said running his hand through his hair.

"Niklaus she'll be fine, focus on the job," he said quickly hanging up the phone.

Klaus felt like his body was on fire he wanted to rip someone's heart out, preferably Trevor's.

"Dean," Rose called by the balcony door, "are you coming back in?"

Klaus looked at her taking a deep breath, "give me a second." She nodded walking back toward the bar where Alexander was still standing. Klaus looked at his phone and dialed Caroline.

Caroline pulled her phone out of her pocket when she heard Trevor walking down the hallway, she put it on vibrate before calling the police.

"911 what's your emergency."

"I have an intruder in my house," she whispered.

"What is your location?"

Caroline gave the operator her address her breathing becoming faster when she heard him jiggle the office door knob, "please hurry."

Caroline looked at her phone and saw Klaus calling she knew she shouldn't hang up on the 911 operator but she wanted to hear his voice, so she answered it. "Nik he's in the house I called the police."

"Caroline I know you're in there," Trevor said leaning against the door, "Open the door I just want to talk," he said calmly tapping on the door.

Caroline felt her stomach drop, "Nik he's here."

Klaus pinched the bridge of his nose holding his hand over the speaker of the phone "FUCK!" he yelled before taking a quick breath.

"Listen to me Caroline. I need you to stay calm. Elijah is on his way and the cops will be there soon. I need you to move your desk in front of the door. Can you do that for me?"

She stood up and ran to her desk, it was a medium wooden desk and she started pushing it against the door, "almost got it," she said grunting as she pushed the desk screaming when the door flew open dropping her phone on the desk

"Caroline," Klaus said with force before he heard her speak.

"Trevor," Carline said nervously watching him walk slowly toward her. She tried to control her breathing as her chest heaved up and down, "I wasn't expecting you."

Trevor laughed cynically, "It has been a long time Care," he walked toward her moving around the desk, "I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss you."

Klaus stood on the balcony clenching his phone as he listened, his eyes racing across the city lights of Chicago.

Caroline stepped when Trevor stepped, slowly moving around the desk the closer he got, "yes well I'd be lying if I said I missed you." Caroline grabbed her stapler and threw it at Trevor's head as she ran for the door.

Her heart was racing a she bolted toward her front door, but quickly sank when she felt him grab her hair and yank her back with enough force that she fell backwards. Caroline screamed as he held on to her hair.

Klaus heard Caroline scream, "Caroline!" he yelled into the phone still hearing her in the distance yelling at him to let go of her.

"Dean is there a problem," Alexander asked as he stepped on to the balcony, "I heard you yell."

Klaus recomposed himself hanging up the phone, "nothing just a rough business deal back home but it's been handled."

Alexander nodded, "well I believe we still have business to discuss so if you'd please follow me to my office."

Klaus nodded as he watched Alexander turn around, he quickly brought up a text to Elijah.

Please hurry Elijah, Caroline is in serious trouble. He slipped his phone in his pocket and walked back into the apartment.

Caroline was kicking her legs as Trevor held on to her hair and wrapped his arm around her waist yanking her off the ground, "Let me go!" she screamed.

Trevor laughed as he dragged her down her hallway toward her bedroom, "you should've never left me Caroline. I was a fool to think you actually loved me, but all you've done is cause me nothing but pain," he yelled tightening his grip on her hair as he kicked open her bedroom door.

Caroline hasn't felt this amount of fear since she left him. Trevor moved his arm up her chest holding her shoulders, Caroline squirmed positioning her mouth over his arm and biting down hard. The sudden pain shocked him enough to let her go, she fell forward scrambling to her feet to get away from him but only felt him hit her in back of the head. She flew forward hitting the floor. She blinked as her eyes went blurry as she looked around trying to stop the room from spinning.

Trevor stood over her kicking her in the ribs, "it took me years to find you Caroline do you honestly think I'm going to let you get away from me this time," he smiled pulling her to her feet as he pushed her blonde curls away from her face. Caroline didn't fight back because she still felt as if she was spinning.

"Trevor please," she mumbled as he took her face in his hands, "don't do this."

"Why not, so that other man can have you," he said gripping her shoulders harshly, "so tell me Caroline how many men have had their go at my wife."

Caroline looked at Trevor, seeing only darkness in his eyes, she knew one day this was going to catch up with her but she didn't care anymore. She closed her eyes as a tear slid down her face and chuckled lightly, "they were definitely twice the man you ever were," she opened her eyes smirking.

Trevor's smirk fell as he lifted his hand and smacked Caroline so hard she could taste blood in her mouth before she could refocus he slapped her again. He pulled her close to where Caroline could feel his warm breath on her face, "I'll show you just how much of a man I can be," he growled.

Caroline looked at him spitting in his face, "go to hell Trevor," she saw him raise a fist and she clinched her eyes shut waiting for his blow.

"Let the young lady go," she heard someone say forcefully. Caroline opened her eyes to see a man in a suit standing by her front door.

"Get the hell out of here, this has nothing to do with you," Trevor yelled pulling Caroline to the side holding on to her arm tightly leaving bruises. Caroline stood next to him holding her left ribs as she glanced between the two.

Elijah walked closer to them, "I wasn't asking."

Trevor threw Caroline to the side and she hit the kitchen table hard, knocking her unconscious. Elijah's eyes fell on Caroline hoping she was still breathing, just as he saw her chest rise up and down Trevor charged him.

Alexander led Klaus to his office in the back of his apartment. It was just them as Alexander's body guards were distracted by some female guests. That was an advantage Klaus intended to use.

"I hope you don't mind us discussing the final part of our business in my office," he opened the door for Klaus.

"Of course not," Klaus walked through the door. "Will Galen and Jason being joining us," he asked quickly. He was still a little tense from the phone call from Caroline so he quickly walked up to the bar in the corner of the room and poured himself a drink.

"No," Alexander stated as he walked up to Klaus at the bar, "they are no longer involved with this transaction."

Klaus lowered his glass not liking the sound of what Alexander just told him, "Why's that?"

Alexander poured himself a drink, "Let's just say Galen resigned his partnership and Jason's contract fell through," he smirked bringing the drink to his lips.

Klaus sighed because now he knows why they haven't showed up to the party yet, he slammed his drink and before Alexander could react Klaus smashed the glass on his head.

Klaus wrapped his arm around Alexander's throat squeezing, "alright mate I don't really have time to beat around the bush, and I'm already quite pissed off so I'm getting straight to the point," he growled pulling out his knife and holding it to his throat.

"You're going to tell me where you put Galen and Kol or I'll slit your throat and find them myself," he said pushing the blade into his jugular enough to draw a little blood, "understand?"

"You'll never make it out of here alive," Alexander said tensely.

Klaus sighed in frustration flipping him around to face him, "You're probably right," he punched him before holding the knife back at his throat as he reached into his pocket, "but neither will you," Klaus jabbed a needle into the side of Alexander's neck.

He winced in pain, "what did you do," he said in panic as he started to get light headed.

Klaus withdrew his knife and put it back in the inside pocket of his suit, "oh nothing to serious just a small dose of cobra venom."

"What," Alexander shouted trying to attack Klaus but suddenly got dizzy falling to one knee.

"Don't bother mate the venom from a cobra is neurotoxic it works its way to your nerves and will soon leave you paralyzed before your lungs start to collapse," Klaus sat in front of Alexander, "now where were we."

Alexander was starting to burn up, he unbutton the collar of his shirt and loosened his tie, "I can't breathe."

"You're going to tell me where my brother is or else you can die, slowly and from the looks of it painfully," Klaus stated.

Alexander was confused, "you're brother, who's your brother," before a look of realization appeared on his face, "Kol, that's how you knew his real name."

Klaus punched Alexander hard enough to hear a crack, "where is he!"

"I should've known I couldn't get rid of a Mikaelson without the whole clan crashing the party," Alexander said coughing, a little bit of blood landing on his floor, "you all can go to hell."

Klaus stood up and kicked him across the face, "you think us fools Alexander," he pulled out his phone and pulled up the picture of Alexander's daughter and the girl's mother, "nice little family, would be a shame if anything happen to them."

Alexander tried to lunge himself at Klaus for threatening his daughter but crashed into his desk. He coughed again breathing heavily, "You wouldn't touch her. I thought that was the Mikaelson creed, no innocent people."

Klaus laughed darkly as he walked up to Alexander pulling him off the desk and throwing him back on the floor. He leaned forward looking at him, "it's a good thing I'm not a real Mikaelson," he punched him again.

"Now tell me where my brother is and your little girl will go unharmed and I'll give you this," he pulled out another needle from his suit pocket, this one with clear liquid "strange how this little dose can save your life."

He smirked dangling it in front of Alexander, "people dying because of your own stubbornness is no way to go mate, where are they?"

Alexander took a deep breath wiping the blood from his mouth with his sleeve. He closed his eyes before mumbling, "The shipping docks, warehouse 13."

Klaus held the needle in front of him taking the cap off and squirting a little bit of the antidote on his face, "I've been in this business a long time Alexander and if you think me a fool you're sorely mistaken," he stabbed his leg with the needle causing Alexander to yelp in pain. He started moving the needle around, "now tell me. Where. Is. My. Brother."

Alexander sucked in a breath through his teeth, his breathing becoming dense as he tried to focus on his answer.

Klaus pushed the needle down harder, "where is he!"

"Ahhhh," Alexander yelled his breath coming in quick as he opened his eyes to look at the cold stare of Klaus, "Conner has an abandoned club in downtown Chicago called 'The Hunters Mark,'" he paused looking at Klaus, his features going hard. Alexander leaned forward coming face to face with Klaus, "that's where you'll find your brother's body."

Klaus growled pulling the needle out from his leg stabbing Alexander in the neck with it, pushing the antidote into his body, "if that's true, then you'll wish you were dead by the time I finish with you," he hissed before knocking him unconscious.

Elijah pushed his foot on to the side of Trevor's face, "I'm warning you, don't move." he took out his phone to call the cops when he heard Caroline start groaning, he turned his attention to her not realizing his pressure give.

Trevor took advantage of the release and shoved Elijah off of him. Elijah tumbled back and Trevor bolted for the door, running down the hallway to the stairs. Elijah swore under his breath as he chased after him.

Caroline lifted her hand to her head groaning at the pain she felt in her body.

"In here!" she heard someone shout as she felt a body lean down next to her.

"Ma'am can you hear me."

Her hand slide up her hair and she felt something warm, her eyes finally opened as she looked at her hand to see it covered with blood. She started to freak out and screamed.

"Ma'am please stop moving," he said trying to hold her arms still and calm her down.

Caroline eyes moved from side to side quickly as she screamed again trying to push the guy away from her. She balled her hands into fists and started swinging as her feet started kicking. She soon got traction under her heels and moved along the floor, "get away from me!"

She made it a few feet before another EMT wrapped his arms around her, "Shhhh Shhh its ok you're safe now," he said holding her arms across her chest to keep her still, "we're trying to help," he said softly.

Caroline looked around her apartment finding no trace of Trevor just a few policemen walking around and the other EMT pulling up a needle before sticking it in her arm. She suddenly felt her body relax as her head fell back against the other EMT's chest, everything going black.

Elijah looked up from the elevator seeing Caroline's apartment surround with officers, he quickly pushed the lobby button taking his phone out of his suit pocket.

Caroline is safe she is in route to the hospital, but her attacker got away. I'll head to the hospital quickly. I chased him down the apartment building but lost him as soon as I hit the street. I'll need more information about this fellow if you want me to find him. Elijah sent Klaus the text taking a breath as the elevator binged open. He planned on heading to the hospital after he changed his suit. Arriving at someone's bedside with blood on your suit was not what Elijah wanted his introduction to Klaus' Caroline to be.

Klaus walked out of Alexander's office locking the door before wiping off his knuckles with his handkerchief. He then placed the needles inside it, wrapping them up and putting them in his jacket pocket. He took out his phone and dialed Damon.

"Hey where did you disappear to, I just went into position."

"Change of plans Damon," Klaus said frantically as his eyes scanned the party in search of Rose.

"Why. What happen?"

"Alexander has Kol and Galen. He hasn't killed them yet but I have a feeling we're running out of time. I need you to come back to the party and handle him. He's unconscious in his office. I locked the door so you'll have to jimmy it open," Klaus spotted Rose at the bar talking to Alexander's body guards.

"Get him out of the apartment without his guards seeing and take him to the safe house. I'll get Rose and send her over," Klaus hung up the phone buttoning up his jacket as he walked over to Rose.

He smiled at the guards surrounding Rose, "Gentlemen if you don't mind I'd like to spend a little time with my fiancé," his smiled fading as he glared at them slipping his arm around Rose's waist. Each of them backed away from her raising their drink at Klaus.

Klaus led Rose to the balcony picking up a drink from one of the passing waiters to make it seem more relaxed than it actually was. After he slid the balcony door shut his expression changed as he looked at Rose, "we need to get out of here now."

"What, what's going on?" She asked with tension in her voice.

"You're going to go to the safe house," Klaus looked around the room to find a way out but all the guards went back to their original posts he'd have to be creative if he wanted them to stay away from Alexander's office, "how much have you had to drink?"

"Not much," Rose shook her head, "but from everyone else's perspective it may seem like a lot."

Klaus smirked, "Good," he handed her both their drinks, "I want you to drink these and when you're done smash one on the ground and slap me. Once you do that start yelling at me about something then slap me a few times, and then," Klaus hesitated looking at her, "I'm going to have to hit you back Rose. Once the guards take me you push past everyone and leave, make your way to the safe house."

Rose looked at him understanding what he was trying to do, so she nodded and did as he said. As soon as she smashed one of the glasses on the ground she noticed that got many of the people's attention, "Who is she!"

Klaus acted as if he was trying to calm her down, "Belle please you're making a scene."

"I don't give a shit, who is she!"

"Belle," Klaus reached for her hand.

Rose slapped him a again with a little more force surprising Klaus but he looked around the party and noticed the guards stepping away from their posts walking toward them, "I know she keeps calling you."

Klaus' eyes widened a little baffled at what she was saying, "Belle stop this is not the place to discuss this."

"No I know you've been seeing her behind my back and you know what I don't care because Alexander will treat me—"she was cut off when Klaus slapped her.

"Shut it!" Klaus shouted, and he couldn't help but smirk a little when the guards barged through the balcony door and subdued him. He nodded at Rose as she stood there crying holding her face, she nodded and let one of the guests lead her away.

"Get the hell off me," he shouted shoving off the guards, "I'll show myself out."

He pushed himself through the crowd and saw Rose being escorted out of the apartment before him. One of the guards stopped him by the door. Klaus looked up at him, "I advise you get out my way mate."

He shook his head, "Not until the lady is out of the hallway you scumbag."

Klaus chuckled before punching the guy in the stomach pushing him out of the way, "thank you for the party," he opened the door bumping into Damon as he stepped out. Klaus just nodded as Damon slipped inside.

Klaus took out his phone to call Lexi but saw he got a text from Elijah. After reading it he took a breath of relief knowing Caroline was safe because now he had to get his brother back.

Thank you Elijah…I'll handle it when I get home, he wanted nothing more to drive a knife through Trevor's heart and he will not let Elijah take that away from him. He stepped into the elevator pulling up Lexi's number to let her in on the new plan.

"Lexi there isn't much time to explain, I need my bag," he said quickly stepping into the elevator

"It's in the trunk of the car," Lexi said, "what's going on Klaus?"

Klaus took a breath pushing the lobby, "Lexi I need to save Kol," he heard her breath catch.

"Everything is in your bag. I never take anything out in case something like this happens. I'll get the jet ready for our extraction as soon as you're done."

"No."

"What. Why not?"

Klaus stepped out of the elevator and headed to the parking garage across the street where their black town car was parked, "Damon is bringing Alexander back to the safe house, if anything happen to Kol I will deal with him. If Kol is fine we finish the job and do it like we planned."

Lexi was nodding on the other end of the phone, "very well, everything will be ready when you get back."

"Good thanks Lexi," Klaus started jogging to the second floor of the parking garage.

"Be careful Klaus, if not for me for the other blonde in your life."

Klaus stopped by the car nodding, "I'll see you soon," he hung up the phone.

Klaus looked around the parking garage, relieved that it was empty. He took the keys hidden by the driver side tire and popped the trunk. He took out his black bag and got into the car.

Caroline felt like she was hit by a truck. Her ribs hurt and her head had still slight pound in it. She slowly opened her eyes sucking in a deep breath before her eyes completely opened.

"Caroline," he said softly.

Caroline turned her face her eyebrows furrowing in confusion, "Ian?" she breathed trying to sit up but as soon as she moved a sharp pain went into her ribs, she sucked her breath through her teeth in pain falling back on her pillows.

Ian stood up, "are you ok, should I get someone?"

Caroline shook her head, "No no," she tried to move again, "ahhh."

"Miss Forbes please try not to move," she heard a lady say stepping in front of her bed going through Caroline's chart. She looks at Caroline through her black rim glasses, "I'm Dr. Meredith Fell, and how are you feeling Caroline?"

Caroling grumbles, "Like I got hit by a bus," she lets her head fall back against her pillows closing her eyes.

"Yes that is expected for the next couple of days but the bruising will go down. The good news is there is no permanent damage," Meredith walked around her bed and looked at her vitals, "you have one cracked rib and a few stiches on your head, but with time it will all heal nicely."

Caroline opened her eyes and looked at the doctor, "is that it?"

Meredith looked down at Caroline, "the police want to speak with you as soon as I allow them."

She looked at Meredith nodding, "can that wait until morning?" she looked past Meredith and noticed it was still dark outside.

Meredith nodded, "of course, get some rest Miss Forbes. A nurse will be in shortly to give you something for the pain," she said gently walking back out the door.

Ian was watching the whole time not sure what to say but Caroline looked at him and smiled.

"What are you doing here Ian?"

He smiled and sat down on the chair next to her bed, "I just pulled up to your apartment building when I saw them bring you out on a stretcher. You missed the benefit concert without even calling to cancel," he looked at her softly, "I've worked with you several times Caroline, that's not like you, so I thought I'd stop by to see if you were alright since you weren't answering your phone."

She nodded because he wasn't wrong. She'd never skip an event she was covering without properly cancelling, "Thank you for being here. You don't have to stay."

He waved his hand in the air, "nonsense, I called Matt and he's on his way but until he gets here you're stuck with me," he smiled.

Caroline giggles adjusting herself slightly to get more comfortable, "how do you even have Matt's number?"

"Well ever since we hung out the last time we've kept in touch," Ian said leaning on her bed, "we've had lunch a few times and I met his fellow Ben not too long ago."

Caroline was laying there with a shock on her face because Matt didn't tell her any of this, "I had no idea."

Ian shrugged, "that's my fault. I asked Matt to keep it between us."

Now she was really confused and looked at him with her brows furrowed, "Why?"

Ian cleared his throat, "it doesn't matter now. Do you need anything?" he stood up.

She looked at him, "just something to drink would be nice."

Ian nodded and walked out of her room. Caroline looked around her standard hospital room, her clothes were in a pile near the couch. She tried to move again but the pain stopped her, she squeezed her eyes shut until it was gone. She took a deep breath and just laid there, her eyes opened when she heard a light knock on her door. She saw the guy that saved her.

"Hi," she said softly trying to sit up but failing.

"No need to move Miss Forbes," Elijah said politely walking up next to her bed, "I came to see if you were alright."

Caroline nodded, "I'm banged up but it'll heal."

"That's good to know. I'm glad you'll make a full recovery," he smiled.

"Thanks to you….Mr?"

Elijah held out his hand, "Elijah Mikaelson, Klaus' older brother."

Caroline shook his hand a little in shock because she's never laid eyes on Elijah before now. She's heard of him and his wife but they were a very private couple, "Klaus said he was going to send someone, I didn't know he'd send you."

He nodded chuckling, "Yes well my brother has his way with words," he smiled, "but it was a good thing, no telling what would have happen if I didn't arrive when I did."

She nodded, "Thank you Elijah."

He smiled, "You're welcome Caroline."

Caroline smiled at him as she relaxed in her bed taking a deep breath. She was just glad the worst was over.

"Get some rest Miss Forbes, I'll check on you again tomorrow."

She waved her hand, "you don't need to do that Elijah. My friends will be here."

"I wouldn't hear the end of it from Klaus if I didn't," Elijah said stepping away from her bedside.

Caroline chuckled nodding, "good night Elijah."

"Good night," he smiled and walked out of her room just as Ian was returning with a bottle of water.

Ian pointed at him as he walked up to the chair beside her bed, "who was that?"

Caroline took a breath as Ian handed her the water bottle, "he's the one who stopped the guy who attacked me. He was just coming by to check on me."

Ian nodded, "so you were attacked by a guy?"

She took a sip of her water nodding and thanked god that the nurse walked in so she wouldn't have to answer anything else.

"Hello, I'm Danny and I'll be your nurse tonight," she smiled walking up to Caroline's bedside to check her vitals. She took out the blood pressure cuff and put it on her arm.

"After I check your blood pressure I'll give you your pain medication. It will help you sleep," she smiled.

Caroline nodded feeling the blood pressure squeeze her arm watching the nurse jot things down in her chart. She took the pressure cuff off her smiling at Caroline, "I'm going to give you your morphine now." She took out a needle and put it through Caroline's IV.

Her head rolled against the pillow as her eyes closed. Her body felt a sudden sensation of warmness as she felt the pain start to fade.

"How are you feeling Caroline?"

She opened her eyes looking at the nurse, "much better."

Danny smiled looking over her vitals one more time, "ok well you get some sleep and if you need anything," she said picking up Caroline's clicker, "push this button," she smiled placing the clicker within her reach before walking out of her room.

Caroline looked at Ian smiling, her eyes getting heavy, "Ian can you shut off the lights please."

Ian stood up and walked toward the light switch when he turned back he saw Caroline breathing in a steady rhythm. He sighed, twitching when Matt burst through her door.

"Caroline!"

"Shhh," Ian said stopping Matt and the two brunettes coming in behind him, "she just went to sleep. The nurse barley gave her some pain medication."

"Oh," he said in a hush voice as he walked past Ian to look at Caroline, frowning as he saw the fresh bruises on her face and bandage covering part of her head. Elena and Bonnie stood next to him their hands covering their mouth.

"She tell you what happen?" Matt asked looking at Ian.

He shook his head, "just that she was attacked by a guy, she fell asleep before she talked about it."

Matt nodded as he pushed a strand of Caroline's hair out of her face. He sighed taking off his jacket, "thanks for being here Ian."

He nodded, "No problem."

Matt, Bonnie and Elena got comfortable in Caroline's room, each of them finding a place to sit and wait until she woke up again. Ian stayed for a bit filling in Matt with the details that he did know until he told Matt he'd be back in the morning.

Klaus walked down the alley next to the club trying to find a way inside. Damon texted him right when he pulled up telling him that he was able to get Alexander out of his apartment without being seen and they were headed to the safe house. That was one less thing for Klaus to worry about. He leaned against the door in the alley listening, and when no noise came from the other side he picked the lock. The door led him to the storage space in the back of the club.

Klaus was wearing a long sleeve shirt, gloves, a vest, jeans and some boots. It was easy for him to move around without his suit. His knives lined the inside of his vest because it was his weapon of choice, but his gun was holstered under his left arm. Klaus wasn't fond of using guns in any situation, but after what Alexander pulled he thought having one would be a safe bet.

Klaus made his way into the club, sticking to the shadows as he heard the guards talking near the dance floor. He noticed two standing outside by the front entrance when he dashed into the alley, and it would seem two were guarding Kol and Galen, giving him four targets.

"Any word from Alexander yet?"

"No, he said once he settled his deal with that Dean fellow he'd come back and finish the job," the blonde guard said pointing to a tied up Galen and Kol.

Klaus looked at his brother and saw his chin resting on his chest as blood covered parts of his face. He felt his body get tense when he saw a knife sticking out of Kol's left shoulder.

"So how did Alexander find out that Galen had Conner killed?"

The blonde body guard shrugged nudging his gun toward Kol, "Instinct I guess because apparently Conner hired this piece of crap right here to kill Galen, but he switched contracts with Galen and killed Conner instead."

The red head bodyguard shook his head, "no wonder why the boss man did a number on him."

"Yup, he nearly killed him when we brought him through the door."

Klaus looked around the club trying to find his vantage point, smirking when he spotted the fuse box. He moved across the bar using it as cover making his way toward the small hallway near the stage. The lights in the club were dim and most of the brighter lights seemed to be on the dance floor but everything else was relatively dark.

"So what is Alexander planning on doing with them?"

The blonde guard looked at Galen and Kol, "dump them in the river most likely. Once Galen is dead Alexander will have full control of the Hunters drug and then there is no stopping him. He'll have all the power."

Klaus slide up next to the fuse box forcing it open with his knife. He listened to where the guards were before flipping the breakers. As soon as the lights went out Klaus waited around the corner of the fuse box as the guards fired off a few shots yelling. He stood there listening with a knife in hand waiting for one of them to check the fuse box.

"Do you see anything!"

"No! I'm going to head to the fuse box," the red headed guard yelled as his grip tightened around the hilt of his gun and moved slowly toward the bar.

Klaus stood there in the dark waiting as he heard the guard shuffle around in the dark. His body was calm and his focus was clear as he heard one of the guards get closer.

"Did you find it!" The blonde guard yelled as his eyes scanned the club for any sign of movement. He stood close to Galen and Kol, his finger on the trigger.

"Nothing yet!" the red head made his way across the bar, his hands running along the wooden top to guide him.

"Hurry up!"

The red head body guard stood in front of the fuse box when Klaus came up behind him sliding his blade across his throat covering his mouth with his hand. The guard twitched in Klaus' arms as he let him slide down to the floor slowly.

"Derrick!" the blonde guard called as he gripped his gun tighter held it steady ready to fire.

Klaus checked Derrick's pulse and he was gone. He stayed low and moved to the stage, staying still to listen to the other guard's movements.

The blonde guard shot off a few rounds, and Klaus moved behind the piano before hearing the click of a radio.

"Derrick is not answering. I need you guys in here now!"

Klaus stayed behind the piano hearing footsteps coming from the entrance of the club to his left. He looked in that direction and saw the outline of two guards.

"Go check the fuse box and get these fucken lights on!" the blonde yelled.

Klaus sighed as he waited until the guards walked by before grabbing the last one with his hand over his mouth, shoving his knife into the man's heart. Klaus tightened his grip feeling the guards body wiggle before it stopped, he shoved the body behind the piano, cleaning off his knife on his sleeve. He quickly moved toward the guard fiddling with the fuse box.

The guard was looking at the box and saw that all the breakers were switched off. He started switching them back on one by one when Klaus covered his mouth and shoved a knife in his back twisting, but the quite was short lived when the guard pulled the trigger on his gun. The blond guard turned toward the fuse box and started firing. Klaus moved quickly behind the bar to shield himself from the gun fire.

"I know you're in here," the guard yelled, "you mine as well give up you won't make it out of here alive."

Klaus leaned his back against the bar counter and chuckled, "if I am counting correctly there were four of you," he slide down to the end of the bar as glasses above his head started to shatter from the gun fire."

The blond guard's eyes were wide and his steps cautious as he made his way to the bar, "Derrick! Jace! Brent!"

"Calling for friend's is pointless," the guard turned toward the sound of Klaus' voice and fired his gun toward the stage before hearing a click, but before he could reload Klaus appeared in front of him shoving his knife into his gut.

Klaus twisted the knife and the blond body guard started coughing up blood. Klaus pushed him off his knife, wiping off the blade walking up to Kol.

"Kol," he said tapping his brother face to get a response. He moved behind him and cut his ties and Kol fell on the floor finally yelling in response to the pain.

Klaus kneeled down and picked him up, "Kol."

"Ahh...easy Nik," he groaned holding his shoulder as he leaned on his brother

As soon as Klaus picked up Kol he heard the door swing open next to the bar, without thinking he turned slightly and threw a knife in that direction. He moved Kol behind him for protection sliding his gun out of his holster pointing it in that direction. He lowered it when he saw the guard fall to his knees. He held his gun in one hand as he picked up his brother from the floor.

Before Klaus could speak he heard the radio click on from the guard on the floor, "Gabe is everything clear or do we need to send in back up? Are all the other guards with you?"

"Bollocks, we have to get out of here now," Klaus said quickly as he walked up to Galen shaking him awake.

"Get up!" he shouted before cutting his restraints. Galen fell on the floor grunting.

Galen looked up and saw Klaus, "Klaus."

"Galen get your ass off the floor and move," Klaus shouted as another guard burst through the door opening fire.

Klaus and Kol dropped to the floor as Klaus fired two shots at the guard seeing him fall against the bar.

"We need to move, now!" Klaus yelled. "Galen, keep up," Klaus said as he had his arm around Kol for support.

They made their way to the back storage space. Klaus peeked out the door into the alley and sighed in relief to see no one guarding it, there was a stroke of luck. His grip tightened on Kol as they ran through the alley making their way to Klaus' car on the curb. Klaus finally took a breath when he spun the car around the corner and headed toward their safe house.

"What happen?" Klaus asked in general.

Kol grunted as he adjusted himself in the seat. He tried pulling the knife out of his shoulder grunting in pain before putting pressure his shoulder as the blood soaked through his shirt, "Alexander called for me, he said he wanted to know a little more about the deal I had with Conner about Galen. As soon as I got to his apartment his guards attacked me. I took down three of them but then one of them knocked me out with the hilt of his pistol. When I woke up I was in that club."

Klaus nodded as he turned onto the freeway he looked into the rear view mirror at Galen, "speak."

Galen looked at Klaus and saw his glare, he took a breath, "Alexander found out that I had Conner killed, I don't know how but he did. He asked me to see be a few hours before the party. I thought he wanted to talk about our deal but I was wrong," Galen started wiping the blood from his face with his jacket sleeve wincing at the stinging in his lip.

"Anyway, he told me that he was taking over the Hunters drug and taking full control over 'The Five' once he had it. Conner and I had the most pull in 'The Five' because we developed the drug and brought in the most profit, but all of us we're always on the same page. I've gotten to keep this drug limited because of our pull, but once he died Alexander took over and he's always been loose cannon."

"How did he name Kol as the killer?" Klaus asked glancing at Galen in the rearview mirror.

Galen sighed, "I have no clue. I was surprised when they brought him into the club."

Klaus didn't like the sound of that because even though Kol didn't kill Conner, Alexander was able to find out Kol wasn't even going to kill Conner, "well will just have to ask him," he pushed down on the gas pedal racing across town to get to the safe house.

Klaus walked into the safe house holding Kol and Galen walked in behind him.

"Lexi!" he yelled putting Kol on the couch hearing him groan.

Lexi came running down the stairs with Rose on her heels, "What is it?" she asked before stepping up to Klaus to see Kol bleeding.

"Stab wound."

She ran to the other side of the living room pulling open a cabinet door grabbing the first aid kit. She sat down next to Kol, "take his shirt off."

Kol sat up taking off his shirt, "it's about time you got my shirt off Lexi. I know how long you've waited for this moment," he said weakly but smiling.

Lexi couldn't help but chuckle, "shut it Kol and let me patch you up."

Klaus stood up watching Lexi work on Kol's shoulder as Rose ran to the kitchen for some hot water, "you ok?"

Kol nodded, Klaus looked at Lexi. She looked up at him, "there in the back."

Klaus nodded and headed toward the back. He walked into the garage space and saw Alexander tied up to a chair over some plastic. Damon was leaning against the table with his arms crossed.

"Ah the fun has arrived," he said pushing himself off the table walking toward Klaus, "everything ok?"

Klaus nodded, "Kol's alive," he smirked when Alexander looked up glaring at him, "now Alex tell me how you found out about my brother?"

Alexander scuffed, "not a chance."

Klaus' fist connected with his jaw, "it doesn't matter to me if you live or die. I'll find out either way."

Alexander spit out blood on the plastic laughing, "go ahead and think that 'Wolf'"

Klaus looked at him with an eyebrow lifted, his interest piqued.

"That's right, I know who you are," Alexander smirked, "honestly for the Mikaelson's most notorious assassin I thought you'd be taller."

Klaus opened his arms smirking, "what can I say. I'm just charming that way."

"Yes well your legacy will go short lived because if you kill me 'the five' will stop at nothing to find you with Galen out of the loop," Alexander retorted.

Klaus lift his finger shaking it as he clicked his tongue, "but that's where you're wrong," he stood in front of Alexander kneeling down face level, "not only is Galen alive and well but," he paused and took a knife out from inside his vest looking at Alexander smirking, "I was the one who killed Conner, not Kol" he brought his the knife down hard into Alexander's leg causing him to cry out in pain.

"If I can get to not only one 'Hunter' but two, what makes you think I can't get to the rest of you," he pulled the blade out standing up, "I mean who needs three 'Hunters' anyway," he waved the blade in front of Alexander's face, "Galen is the only useful one so I should take out the rest based on principal alone," he growled, "Teach them a lesson. No one comes after a Mikaelson and lives!" he shoved the knife into Alexander's right shoulder twisting it.

Alexander yelled in pain his eyes clenched shut, his breathing coming in fast breathes as his body started to shake.

"So I'll ask again," he pulled the knife out of his shoulder with force, "how did you find out about Kol."

Alexander leaned forward on his chair breathing hard. He looked up glaring at Klaus, "who do you think told Conner about Kol. I've used him before but I never met him until this week. He did a job for me a few years back dealing with some vampire sucking the life out of my sister."

Klaus nodded as he walked around Alexander, "I remember that case. It was originally meant for me, but I let Kol take it because I get rather nasty with men who beat women. Hmm…go figure."

"Now," Klaus said standing in front of Alexander leaning down to look at him, "tell me about your brothers, the other two hunters. Should I grant them the same fate as yours?"

Alexander spit blood on Klaus. He sighed standing up wiping the blood off his face with his sleeve. He punched Alexander in the ribs hearing a crack, "that wasn't very nice Alex," he punched him again. "I'd hate to think your mother didn't teach you any manners."

Alexander coughed, spitting out more blood on the floor, "go to hell."

Klaus chuckled, "I'm sure you'll save me a seat."

"Now—" Klaus was interrupted by the sound of the door opening. He looked over and saw Kol walk in.

"Ah," he looked at Alexander, "if you think you pissed me off," he grabbed his head and turned it toward Kol, "imagine how mad he must be."

Kol walked up to him and swung his right fist as hard as he could connect with Alexander's left cheek. He winced as pain shot through his injured shoulder. He stood up straight glaring at Alexander looking him over, seeing Klaus has already done some damage.

"Did you get everything you need," Kol asked looking up at his brother.

Klaus nodded, "I can work with it."

Kol held out his hand. Klaus looked at Kol and gave him the knife. Kol took it with no hesitation, he stepped up to Alexander, his shirt still torn and bloody, his grip tightening around the blade as he shoved it between Alexander's ribs twisting it so the knife pierced his lung causing him to bleed more.

Alexander's eyes went wide in fear as he looked at the Mikaelson brother's, coughing up blood trying to speak.

Klaus grabbed his hair to have Alexander look at him, "remember who it was that took your life Alexander," he faced him toward Kol, "he's the last thing you'll ever see, not your family, not your women but a Mikaelson."

Kol glared at Alexander and saw his eyes start falling and his body go limp. He pressed his fingers against his pulse on his neck pushing him away, "he's dead. Our jobs done," Kol turned around and walked out of the room.

Damon sighed, "well that was one way to do it," he looked around the room, "it's a good thing I got the plastic."

Klaus looked at Damon, "pack him up," he said pulling his knife out of Alexander's body. He wiped the knife off on his sleeve, "I'm going to clean up."

Damon nodded watching Klaus walk out of the room. He grumbled looking at Alexander, "you just had to kidnap the baby brother," he shook his head, "even I'm not that stupid."

Damon and Klaus pushed Alexander's body over the side of the boat, Klaus stood next to him as they both watch it sink.

"Well this didn't go as planned," Damon said watching the bubbles disappear.

Klaus looked up at him, "I think we handled it rather well, don't you think?"

Damon nodded as they walked toward the motors of the boat, "Elijah won't be happy about this."

"No but will deal with that when the time comes," Klaus said as he started the boat back up heading back toward the harbor.

Klaus walked back into the safe house to find Kol sitting on the chair. He has bruises, cut cheek and lip but overall he was cleaned up. He stood up and looked at Klaus.

"Hey," he said.

Klaus walked up to Kol, "how you feeling?"

"Better, my arm is a little stiff and I'll be sore but Lexi patched me up nicely. The wound should heal up quickly she said," he touched his shoulder.

Klaus nodded, "good," he smiled at his brother.

"Klaus I—"

He shook his head holding up his hand, "you're alive, that's all that matters Kol."

Kol nodded as his brother squeezed his other shoulder.

"I need to get back to San Francisco," Klaus said looking at his watch, he made sure Lexi booked him a flight out this morning and it left at 5 a.m. it was already almost four, "you and Lexi pack things up here and make sure to call the hotels in the morning to check us out. We need to make it seem like our vacation is over, and have Lexi leave a credit card trail. When you're done you can either go back to London or come back to San Francisco."

"I'll take care of it," Kol said.

Klaus smiled, "I know you will."

They stood there in silence for a while before Kol spoke, "Thank you."

Klaus looked at him, "We're family, always and forever."

Kol smiled because it was rare for him and his family to get sentimental but when they had those moments it was definitely something to remember.

Klaus just nodded giving his little brother a small hug. They've been in situations where their lives were in trouble but this was the first time one of them actually was captured. Klaus squeezed Kol before heading up to his room to pack his bags because he needed to get back to San Francisco.

Galen stood in the living room of the safe house waiting for Klaus. He looked up and saw him walking down the stairs with Rose holding a few bags.

Klaus stood in front of Galen his expression hard dropping his bag on his side, "you will go to the other two 'Hunters' and tell them that you took out Alexander yourself, it was self-defense because he blames you for Conner's murder. It is still unknown on how Conner died and I doubt any of Alexander's men will question you once they know you're the one who killed their leader."

Galen stood there and nodded.

"Good, Alexander's body will wash up in the river someday but none of it will lead to you or us and with the connections you and the 'Hunters' have I understand you'll make sure it doesn't," Klaus stated picking up his bag from the floor, "Now if you'll excuse me I have a plane to catch."

He pushed past Galen opening the door to the house as Rose stepped outside. Klaus stopped holding the door open looking back at Galen, "Oh and Mr. Vaughn, I hope you understand that if you don't get the other two 'Hunters' in check with this new found leadership of yours you'll be hearing from me again," he let the door close as Galen stood in the middle of the living room.

Klaus and Rose left for the airport in a cab. Klaus was thankful traffic was easy. They were able to get through security fairly easy but as soon as they were headed toward their terminal Klaus stopped Rose and handed her a ticket.

"What's this," she said opening the ticket, "London?"

Klaus nodded, "you did a great job this weekend Rose."

"Thanks, but this doesn't explain why I am going back to London and not San Francisco?" she looked at him frowning.

He sighed, "It's your ticket home."

Rose looked over Klaus' face and shook her head, "I get it," she took her bag from Klaus, "you don't want me around after what happen in the hotel room."

"Rose, you and I will always have a relationship," Klaus said but was cut short of finishing when Rose huffed.

"Why did you save me Klaus, all those years ago? Why did I become a big part of your life and family only to be pushed away from you?" she looked at him her voice starting to break. "Why did you let me fall in love with you?"

Klaus sighed running his hand through his hair, "Rose I saved your life all those years ago because despite what most people think I'm not a complete monster. I saw a girl who needed another chance at life and I couldn't just turn my back on that. You'll always be my close friend and great partner but you want something I can't give you."

Rose stood there her eyes filling with tears; she didn't realize how much it would hurt to be rejected by someone you truly cared about. She leaned in and gave Klaus a kiss on the cheek, "Good bye Klaus," she said.

Klaus sighed closing his eyes as Rose walked away. He knew he was never going to see her again. He took a breath and started walking toward his terminal to catch his flight back to San Francisco. He had a beautiful blonde waiting for him and a man to kill.

A/N I know i said shortly but this chapter took on a life of it's own and i hope you enjoyed it.

As a way to guess make it up to you I am asking for my readers suggestions.

How you would you like the next chapter to go. Would you like it to start out with Caroline still in the hospital or do you want me to skip ahead a little more?

Also another big questions is the Trevor ordeal, should Klaus be the only one to kill him, should he die, how should he die?

Please leave a review with your suggestions.

I really hope I am keeping this story interesting enough for you to read, and thank you so much for all the reviews for the last chapter that i posted in 2013.

So Happy New Year my readers and here is to 2014. May it be a year dedicated to Klaroline, and i hope my story is what you want to read.

Also I'm looking for ideas on what to make for the graphic of this story. I feel it deserves one. Does anyone want to volunteer?

Thanks again.
