A/N: Hello my lovely readers. I'm back. Sorry this chapter took so long but then again all my chapters take so long. This is the final chapter in the story, but an epilogue will follow. I hope you like how i chose to wrap up this story. At least I hope i wrapped it up.
None the less, enjoy...
Caroline gasped as she sprang up from the bed, her breathing coming in harsh. She put her hand over her heart and felt it beat rapidly. She couldn't understand why she was having nightmares but it was really starting to mess with her sleeping schedule. She looked beside her to see Klaus still sleeping. She slid out of bed, adjusting her tank top and boy shorts before she walked into the kitchen.
Caroline opened the cabinet, taking out the bottle of scotch and a tumbler. She fills it up half way and walked up to the bay windows. Every time she walked past the living room she intentionally avoided the area she killed Trevor, more and more lately because that was what haunted her dreams.
She took a long sip of the drink, pulling a dining room chair up to the window. She lifted her legs up to her chest and stared at the city lights. Caroline couldn't understand why she was suddenly having nightmares about that night it's been over a year. This last one was geared toward Klaus rather than Trevor. She shivered because in her dream she saw Klaus' eyes turn yellow and vines span out under his eyes as sharp teeth peeked out from his lips. He was ripping into Trevor and when he was finished he would always turn his gaze toward her. Caroline thought that is what it felt like to be hunted.
She sighed running a hand through her loose blond hair before guzzling down a little more alcohol to calm her nerves. Since Caroline told Klaus she loved him over a year ago everything has been great. They went about their lives as usual but they were doing it together. Caroline still felt butterflies every time Klaus kissed her or looked at her like no one else mattered. She was finally happy.
"So what the fuck are these dreams," she grumbled into her glass.
"Are you ok sweetheart?"
Caroline's head jolted to the kitchen area at the sound of Klaus' voice, a prick of panic in her stomach from his sudden disturbance. She sighed in relief looking him over, smiling at the way his pajama pants hung of his hips and the dim lights reflected off his bare chest, "I couldn't sleep."
Klaus nodded, pouring himself a glass, "anything I can do to help?" He looked at her with a worried expression, taking a sip of his drink.
Caroline smiled shaking her head, "it was just a bad dream."
He walked up to her, pulling her to her feet. He sat back down and pulled her on to his lap, "you've been having a lot of those lately," he said softly gripping her waist as Caroline wrapped her arm around his neck. She nodded taking sip of her drink, hoping to just move past this.
"Do you want to tell me about them?"
Caroline looked down at the drink in her hand, her hair covering her face.
"Hey," Klaus said softly lifting her chin for her to look at him, "it's ok; you don't have to if you don't want to."
She smiled, giving Klaus a quick peck on the lips, but as she pulled away Klaus snaked his hand in her hair and pulled her back to his lips. She moaned as he deepened the kiss, fresh butterflies filling her stomach. Klaus pulled away taking a deep breath before pecking her red lips one more time. He leaned his forehead against her.
"They're just dreams love," he pulled back and kissed her forehead, "whatever you're dreaming about isn't real."
Caroline chuckled lightly nodding. She took a deep breath and laid her head on his shoulder. She took the final gulp of her drink as they stared out the bay windows overlooking San Francisco.
"You attacked me," she finally said after a long minute. She felt Klaus stiffen underneath her, he moved her so she was looking at him.
"What?"
She sighed, "In my dreams, after you were done with Trevor you turned to me and attacked me."
Klaus put his glass down sighing. He cupped her face, "you know I'd never hurt you Caroline."
Caroline leaned into his touch looking up to him and seeing the hurt in his eye, "I know, I know, and I don't know why I'm having these dreams," she sighed looking down, "but you scare me in them."
"Hey," he said lifting up her chin, "they're just dreams sweetheart. I would never hurt you," he cupped her face looking into her eyes, "you brought some much needed light to my world love, and I want nothing more than to keep you in it."
Caroline smiled nodding. She moved closer, closing her eyes as Klaus captured her lips in a kiss. She moaned as his tongue ran across her bottom lip, she opened her mouth and soon their tongues were dancing as Caroline wrapped her arms around his neck deepening the kiss and before she realized it she dropped her glass to the floor. The sound of it shattering broke them apart, earning a chuckle from both of them. Klaus sighed pecking her lips one more time, "I'll clean it up in the morning."
Caroline nodded laying her head back against his shoulder, taking a deep breath. Klaus' hand slid up and down her back as both of them sat there looking out the window for a long while.
"Caroline," Klaus whispered as he nudged her. She groaned tightening her grip around his neck. He chuckled wrapping her arms around her, "come love, let's get you to bed." Klaus picked Caroline up bridal style, making sure not to step on the broken glass as he walked toward their room. Her arms were holding on to his neck loosely as her head rested on his chest.
Klaus put her in bed, kissing her forehead before climbing in beside her. He wrapped his arm around Caroline's waist pulling her toward him until she was against his chest. He moved her hair off her shoulder placing a light kiss on the nip of her neck. She smiled in appreciation, opening one eye to see the red letters from the clock on the side table shine at her. It was after three in the morning. Caroline rolled over to face Klaus, he smiled, "get some rest sweetheart; it's going to be a busy day."
She groaned sinking her head as far into Klaus as she was allowed, "tell me why I let you talk me into having a birthday party."
He laughed pulling her back to face him, "You're turning 28, darling. It's not the end of the world."
She sighed looking at him, "I know but that doesn't hide the fact that I'm getting old." Klaus laughed again. "It's not funny," she said pushing his chest.
"Caroline," he said cupping her face, "you're still a beautiful young woman with so much more to offer this world." He moved to kiss her forehead, "which is why I wanted to throw you a birthday party."
Caroline looked up at him smiling, "well when you put it like that, my birthday doesn't sound so bad."
He chuckled kissing her lightly before holding her close. He smiled as he felt Caroline's breathing even out and both of them fell back asleep.
"Miss Forbes, Niklaus Mikaelson is here to see you," her assistant said from her office door.
Caroline smiled as she stared at the dummy sheets spread across her table in her office. Her assistant knew who Klaus was but always wanted to introduce him, "send him in."
Klaus walked into Caroline's office smiling. He was dressed in a fitted black on black Armani suit, wearing a pea coat.
She looked up at him and smiled, "hey," she stood up, "what are you doing here," she turned to look at the clock on her wall, "it's only 7:30."
Klaus chuckled walking up to his girlfriend, giving her a quick peck on the lips, "yes and our dinner reservations are for eight."
Caroline's face fell, "what? I thought they were at nine." She sighed looking at all the work on her table still.
Klaus picked up her jacket and purse from her desk, "come on."
"Just give me a few more minutes I need to get these done," she begged looking at her layout papers.
Klaus held up the jacket and Caroline slid her arms in, "what kind of example am I setting if I let the Senior Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle just walk away from her work."
Caroline smiled, "thank you," she breathed, reaching for her papers.
"Ah ah," Klaus grabbed her hands, "we're still leaving."
"But you just—"
Klaus shushed her and turned her toward the door. She smiled brightly, "Jessica!" she moved toward the door to hug her former editor, who is now her publisher. "I feel like I hardly see you anymore."
Jessica laughed, "I know Caroline this past year has been crazy," she walked with Caroline up to the table, "but I will always stand by my choice making you editor."
Caroline grinned, "I'll always remember my fantastic mentor."
Jessica waved her hand in the air, "oh stop look at this, it's amazing," she pointed at the paper, "you've taken it in a completely new direction."
Klaus walked up to Caroline wrapping his arm around her waist, "are you sure you can handle it Jess?"
She glared at Klaus taking off her jacket, "oh please I'm not that rusty."
Caroline chuckled, "oh my god Jessica I can't believe he talked you into laying out for me tonight."
She shrugged, "it won't take long. You two go enjoy dinner. I'll see you at your party later on." Caroline hugged Jessica.
Jessica smiled pulling back, "Happy Birthday my dear girl." Caroline hugged her again saying thank you before she left with Klaus.
"I can't believe you did that," she said as they walked downtown.
"It wasn't hard to convince her," Klaus smiled as he gripped her hand crossing the street, "I think she misses it."
"I hope not too much, I love my job," she smiled. Klaus kissed her hand as they walked toward the restaurant. "Where are you taking me anyway?" she asked as they crossed the street again.
"What, this doesn't look familiar," he smirked as they walked up to a familiar small restaurant.
Caroline grinned, as Klaus held open the door.
"Caroline!" Marco greeted from behind the hostess podium, "it's been too long."
"Marco," she smiled walking up to him as he kissed her cheeks, "how are you?"
"Io sono perfetto. (I'm perfect)," Marco smiled looking at Caroline then Klaus. "Buon compleanno mio caro. Klaus ha detto che voi due sareste stati con noi stasera.(Happy Birthday my dear. Mr. Klaus said you two would be joining us tonight)."
Caroline laughed nodding, "Grazie Marco. (Thank you Marco)."
Marco handed Klaus the menus and excused himself as Klaus led Caroline to their table. It was the same one they were at when they first ate there.
"I had no idea you wanted to come back here," she smiled as she slid off her jacket letting Klaus take it.
"It's you're birthday sweetheart, and this is your favorite restaurant."
She smiled brightly, pecking Klaus on the lips before she took her seat. She glanced around the restaurant and most of the tables were full in the restaurant tonight. She smiled because it's about time Marco's restaurant got the attention it needed. Klaus hung their coats up on the coat rack before sitting down.
As soon as Klaus sat down Marco sent over a bottle of champagne, and Caroline was happily sipping out of a flute glass. He smiled watching her.
"Spero che vi piaccia la mia scelta per la cena? (I hope you like my choice for dinner?)," Klaus said smiling as he unbuttons his suit jacket. "E 'tecnicamente dove abbiamo avuto il nostro primo appuntamento. (It is technically where we had our first date)."
Caroline looked at him chuckled, "that was not a date."
Klaus laughed pulling off his suit jacket and draping it on his chair, "you took me to dinner and then we went to a concert, danced" he smirked, "I think that consists of a date."
Caroline blushed because now that she thinks about it, that was a date. "Touché signor Mikaelson, ora che me lo dici. Questo è stato il nostro primo appuntamento. (Touché Mister Mikaelson, now that you mention it. That was our first date)."
He smiled against his champagne glass taking a sip before picking up his dinner menu. "Quindi, cosa ti piacerebbe per cena? (So, what would you like for dinner?)" he said peeking over his menu at Caroline. She smiled looking over her menu, both of them locking in on each other's eyes. Caroline felt butterflies take over her stomach as she started to lower the menu. Klaus' eyes were full of want and desire it was making her cheeks flush.
Marco came up to the table enthusiastically asking them what they would like to order. Caroline broke the gaze and looked up at Marco smiling. "Gamberi linguine allo scoglio (shrimp linguine allo scoglio)," Caroline told Marco handing him her menu, "thanks."
He smiled turning toward Klaus, "e signore (and you sir)."
"Prenderò i vostri spaghetti di truffa le vongole (I'll take your spaghetti con le vongole)," Klaus said handing him the menu, "and bring another bottle of champagne for the birthday girl."
Marco nodded, "Yes of course," he chimed walking away from their table.
Caroline leaned on the table smiling at Klaus, "thank you."
Klaus leaned forward and grabbed her hand, placing a kiss on her knuckles, "you're welcome love," he looked at her smiling, holding her hand. "The night's not over yet," he smirked.
Caroline eyed Klaus. She knows that look, "what are you up to Nik?"
He leaned back in his chair smirking at Caroline shrugging a little, "non vorrei rovinare la sorpresa ora fidanzata. (Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise now sweetheart)"
She rolled her eyes a little and leaned back in her chair, picking up her champagne, drinking the rest. She looked back at the man she fell in love with, despite what he does for a living. Caroline knows everything about Klaus' darkness and what he does to control it. They've spent the last year getting to know each other and have been completely truthful since. She even moved in with Klaus a little over six months ago, letting her apartment go wasn't that hard given the memories it held. She and Klaus now live at his place but since then have turned it into their place.
After Caroline told him she loved him, Klaus has opened up to her more and her to him. It all started with Caroline talking to him about how she felt after killing Trevor, admitting that she felt no remorse or regret afterwards. She felt like she got her life back once he was gone. Klaus told Caroline all about his life, the struggles he faced growing up, what he does as a contract killer and how he runs the family business. He even asked her if she wanted him to give it up, but Caroline never brought herself to say yes. Not after she was introduced to what they actually do, she thought of them as vigilantes more than hit men. She even took him up on his offer of teaching her how to properly defend herself. Since Klaus started working with her she felt herself get stronger, she wasn't weak anymore and that was thanks to him. Klaus didn't take as many jobs as he use to before Caroline, two within the past year. When he did have to leave for an assignment Caroline made sure she wasn't alone during that time. She typically spent a lot of time with her friends to keep her mind occupied. But as soon as Klaus walked through their apartment door a weight always lifted from her shoulders knowing he was home safe.
Caroline looked at Klaus pouring herself another glass of champagne, a smile playing on her lips as their eyes locked on each other. A familiar burn of desire hit her as the corners of mouth turned up into a smirk before taking a drink. She started to wonder if she would ever get tired of that look. The way his eyes focused on her as if nothing else mattered, complimented with a playful smirk that sent shivers down her spine. She licked her lips, placing her glass back on the table. She leaned on the table with her arms crossed.
"Questo sorpresa mi coinvolgono strappa quel vestito fuori? (Does this surprise involve me ripping that suit off?)" She smirked as her foot went up Klaus' leg.
Klaus' smirk widens as he ran a hand over his mouth. He looked up at Caroline, his heart beat picking up as he locked eyes with her. He would never tire of her beautiful eyes and strong demeanor. He leaned forward his hands going under the table. He grabbed her foot, sliding her heel off and running his hand up and down her calf. Caroline bit her bottom lip as Klaus' hand messaged her calf. She loved the way his fingers dug into her soft skin.
"How many times have I told you," Klaus said sliding his hand back down her calf and rubbing her foot, "it's not nice to tease," he grinned at her before he started to tickle her foot.
Caroline gasped before she started laughing and kicking her foot, "stop!" she yelled as Klaus held on to her foot. She was laughing while wiggling in her seat trying to escape from his grasp.
Klaus was smiling like a fool and laughed as he let her foot go, "I've warned you love."
Her laughing slowed down as she sat back on her chair. She shook her head, "you're so evil."
He chuckled standing up, picking up her high heel. He kneeled down in front of her, pulling her foot toward him. He looked at her sliding it on, "very." He stood back up and leaned forward kissing Caroline.
When he pulled back Caroline grabbed his suit jacket pulling him back to her and kissed him one more time. Klaus pulled back smiling.
"Dinner is served," Marco stepped up to their table grinning. Klaus took his seat as Marco placed their plates in front of them.
Marco refilled their champagne glasses and placed the bottle back in the ice bucket and the edge of the table. He smiled at both of them, "enjoy."
"Thank you," Caroline said as Marco walked off. She placed her napkin in her lap. Humming in appreciation as the smell of her food invaded her nostrils. She was starving after her long day of work. Now that she was the editor she was responsible for not only one section but all of them, and since it was Friday she had to make sure the weekend edition was taken care of as well.
Caroline twirled some noodles around her fork and plucked it into her mouth. "Mmmmm," she moaned causing Klaus to chuckle. She looked at him smiling, "this is delicious," she stabbed a shrimp with her fork and ate it.
Klaus nodded as he started to eat his food, "good. I'm assuming you didn't really eat much today," he looked up from his plate lifting an eyebrow at her.
"What," she said taking a sip of her champagne, "I was planning on it but time just slipped away."
Klaus laughed, "Sweetheart I'm going to have to start making it my duty to take you out to lunch every day."
Caroline laughed, "But what if we get tired of each other?"
"I'd never get tired of you," He looked at her smiling.
She rolled her eyes playfully, "sssuuuurree," she said before taking another bite of food.
Klaus just laughed shaking his head, "just eat your dinner Caroline." She chuckled turning back to her food.
The rest of the meal was filled with Klaus and Caroline talking about their week. Klaus told Caroline he put in his resignation at the advertising firm and recommended Bonnie as his replacement. This was a decision Klaus made a long time ago and after talking about it with Caroline it's finally happening.
"So Stefan accepted your offer?" Caroline asked, putting her fork down next to her plate.
Klaus nodded, wiping his mouth, "we're going to start looking for art galleries next week."
She smiled, "that's fantastic, I'm so happy for you Nik."
He smiled, "Thank you sweetheart, I'm looking forward to it actually."
"Of course," she said pushing her plate away leaning on the table, "I think Stefan and you will open a great gallery."
Klaus nodded picking up his champagne glass, "He is a very talented photographer."
She nodded looking down at her glass of champagne, "indeed, but also because you're a very talented artist." She looked up to see Klaus smiling at her.
"What?"
Klaus shook his head, "nothing." Caroline chuckled.
Marco came up to the table smiling, "Come è stata la cena? (How was dinner?)"
"Delicious Marco, grazie," Caroline smiled as Marco reached to clear their table.
"So are we having dessert?" Marco asked as he picked up Klaus' plate.
Caroline shook her head, "no thank you Marco, we have a party to get to."
"Of course," he smiled at Caroline, "Happy Birthday dear."
She smiled, "thank you Marco."
Marco winked at Klaus and walked away from the table.
Klaus chuckled as he poured him and Caroline their final glass of champagne. Caroline didn't know anything about what was expected at this party. She has been trying to prey information out of Klaus but he wouldn't budge all week. He planned the whole thing and never hinted anything to Caroline.
"Since I don't know anything about my own birthday party," she said eyeing Klaus as she took her glass of champagne. "Am I dress probably for this party," she smiled motioning to her work clothes, a black pencil skirt with a light pink button up blouse and black pumps.
Klaus chuckled, "sweetheart you could show up in your pajamas and still be the most beautiful woman in the room."
"Oh Mr. Mikaelson you're such a charmer," she giggled taking a drink.
"But before we leave," Klaus said putting his glass on the table and reaching down to his side pulling up a box. He smiled at her, "I thought I'd give you something."
"I thought gifts were for the party tonight?" Caroline said eyeing the gift Klaus was holding.
Klaus smiled shrugging, "this is from me love. I'd rather you open it now," he smiled handing her the gift, she smiled taking it. It was wrapped in silver paper with a red bow. She took the bow off before ripping through the paper.
"Oh my god," Caroline gasped as she quickly tore off the rest of the paper, "Nik," she breathed.
He smiled at Caroline's reaction, her eyes wide and mouth gaping, "do you like it?"
She held up the framed black and white photo of "Iceberg Lake" that Edward Weston took in 1937. It was absolutely breathtaking, the snow covered mountains reflecting off the icy waters. She felt tears sting her eyes as she looked at Klaus, "like it," she laughed lightly, "I love it! Nik. Thank you so much." She stood up from her chair. Klaus grinned standing up as his girlfriend hugged him and gave him a kiss.
"Where did you find it?" she asked leaning with her arm around his shoulder.
"An art collector," he said with his fingers spread across her back. "They almost didn't want to part with it."
Caroline was staring at the photograph in awe, "I don't blame them," she said, "amazing." Her brows furrowed when at the edge of the frame there was a piece of tape still stuck to it. She pulled her arm away from Klaus peeling it away. She froze, her breathing starting to come in fast, "Nik…" she said looking at him in shock.
He smiled taking the ring off the tape. He stood in front of her and kneeled down on one knee, "Caroline." She gasped her hands flying to her mouth. Klaus laughed lightly as he caught the photo before it hit the floor. He slid it on the table looking back up at her.
"Caroline I know this all started with one to many tequila shots," He said smiling, earning a chuckle from Caroline.
"This past year has been the highlight of my life," he paused, "because I've been lucky enough to love you and be loved by you."
Klaus took a breath looking up into Caroline's eyes, "but I'm ready to love you for the rest of my life," he smiled squeezing her hand. Caroline's hand was still over her mouth as tears trickled down her cheeks.
"Caroline Beula Forbes, will you marry me."
Caroline stood there looking at the man kneeling before her. She knows they had a rocky start and they'll still have a lot to figure out, but she knew without a doubt that she loved him. She loved him and could never see herself without him. "Yes," she answered barely above a whisper.
Klaus furrowed his eyebrows because he didn't catch her response, "what?"
"Yes!" she yelled, "Of course I'll marry you Niklaus Mikaelson!"
Klaus took a breath, grinning like a fool as he stood up ignoring the claps that emerged from the people around them. Standing in front of Caroline he slipped the vintage princess cut halo diamond engagement ring on to her finger. She was still crying as she looked down at the ring. Caroline chuckled looking back up at Klaus kissing him, hard. He smiled into the kiss as he slid his arms around her waist, squeezing her tight.
"I love you," Caroline said kissing him.
He smiled, "I love you too."
Klaus opened their apartment door with his arm wrapped around Caroline. She was smiling brightly looking at him as they stepped inside.
"SURPISE!"
Caroline jumped as she saw the lights in their living room flick on and their friends scattered across the apartment. She laughed looking around and saw a banner that said congratulations and another that said happy birthday. She looked at Klaus, "was this your plan all along?"
He smiled nodding, "yes, only if you accepted of course."
She kissed Klaus one more time before turning toward the party and was ambushed by Elena and Bonnie.
"Let me see that ring," Elena said pulling Caroline's hand toward her. "Oh my god that is beautiful," she said yanking Caroline's hand toward Bonnie for her to see.
Bonnie smiled looking up at Caroline, "Happy Birthday Care."
Caroline smiled as she pulled Bonnie and Elena into a hug, "thank you."
She pulled back wiping tears away from her eyes, "Now could someone please get me a drink."
"Got it," Matt said walking up to her with a glass of wine, Ben following close behind.
"Matty," Caroline smiled hugging her best friend.
"Congratulations sweetie," Matt said kissing her cheek, pulling back smiling, "and Happy Birthday."
She took the glass of wine nodding, "thank you." She took a long gulp and started socializing with her closest friends. They even started asking her if she thought of a date or who would be her maid of honor. Caroline just laughed it off because she only got engaged and wanted to enjoy it before she started planning their wedding.
A lot has changed for all of them over the past year. Matt is now a successful lawyer, Bonnie the top account at the advertising firm, Ben was working on opening his own restaurant and Elena became one of the must have publicist's in the city.
Caroline excused herself from her friends to go and change into something more comfortable. As she walked toward her room she was attacked by Kol.
"Caroline," he said happily grabbing her in a hug and spinning her around, "or should I say sister."
Caroline laughed as she hugged Kol, "put me down."
"What's the magic word," he teased spinning her around some more.
"Kol!" she said laughing.
"Alright, alright," he chuckled putting her back on her feet, "Happy birthday my dear."
She smiled, "thank you."
He picked up her hand and looked at her ring, "my brother did well."
She chuckled, "yes he did."
Kol looked up at her smiling. He kissed her on the cheek, "welcome to the family."
Caroline smiled before pushing him away so she could finally go change. She walked into their bedroom, taking breath. She leaned against the door smiling. Caroline looked at her hand, the diamond reflecting in the light. This was really happening; she was going to get married. Caroline felt the door push against her back.
"Sweetheart," she heard called from the other side. She smiled moving from the door to see Klaus walk in, closing the door behind him. "What are you doing in here?" He said stepping up to her, "everyone is looking for the birthday girl."
She smiled, "and bride to be" she pulled Klaus toward her and kissed him. He returned it happily as his arms wrapped around her waist. Caroline let her hands run through his hair and lightly tug. Klaus squeezed her, tilting their heads so he could deepen the kiss. Caroline moans as Klaus' tongue invaded her mouth as she pushed against his body. He groaned pushing Caroline back toward the bed, pushing her on to it. Caroline fell back smiling, pulling Klaus on top of her and locked her lips with his again. Klaus handed roamed up and down her sides and Caroline held on to his waist. He moved his to her neck before nipping at her ear, "is this what you wanted love?"
Caroline moaned as he kissed her neck, lightly sucking, "yes," she breathed. Klaus smiled against her skin, his hand moving to unbutton her blouse. He kissed her exposed skin between her breasts, moving down her stomach. Caroline arched her back and Klaus opened her blouse, placing light kisses along her stomach and ribs.
"You're so beautiful Caroline," Klaus said kissing up to her neck, "and you'll be all mine." She chuckled as he kissed her jaw before capturing her lips. She felt a shiver sneak up her spine as Klaus' hand moved up her sides and cupped her breast. She bit his bottom lip, causing Klaus to moan as she slipped her tongue in his mouth. Klaus hand moved down to the rim of her pencil skirt and he started to hike it up her thighs. Caroline started to grind against him as his leg rested between her legs, she could feel his erection against her thigh. She groaned as he pushed into her.
"CAROLINE! Are you in there," Caroline broke the kiss at the sound of banging on the door. She groaned letting her head fall back to the bed. Klaus was smiling down at her, pecking her lips one more time before moving to lie beside her.
Caroline turned her head to look at him, she smiled at his messy hair and swollen lips. She bit her lip because she wanted nothing more than to take him right now.
Klaus smirked, "I know that look."
She batted her eyelashes, "I don't know what you mean."
He laughed sitting up on his elbow, leaning over to kiss her. He pulled back sighing when the banging on the door occurred again and Elena's voice boomed through the door telling Caroline to hurry up or else she barge in there room.
Caroline put her hand on Klaus' cheek, rubbing her thumb along it. She smiled, "to be continued." She pushed herself off the bed and walked to their closet. Klaus groaned as he stood up and adjusted himself, running his hand through his hair.
Caroline walked out of the closet wearing a blue halter top cocktail dress. She leaned against the wall sliding on a pair of blue ankle boot high heels. When she looked up she saw Klaus leaning against the door looking through his phone. He rolled up his sleeves, removed his tie and unbuttoned the top three buttons on his shirt. She smiled because he looked sexy as hell.
"I see you got comfortable."
Klaus' eyes looked up from his phone, a smile creeping across his face as Caroline walked up to him, "you look lovely," he said sliding his phone in his pocket stepping toward her. He pecked her lips, putting his hands on her hips, "ready?"
Caroline ran her hand through her hair a few times, the curls falling on her bare back, "ready." Klaus kissed her one more time before leading her out of the bedroom.
Caroline and Klaus walked back into the living room and were greeted with a loud collaboration of cheers. She and Klaus smiled and nodded as many of their friends came up to them and congratulated them and wished her happy birthday.
Elena sat Caroline down at the table and ordered the cake to be brought out. Caroline was sitting there smiling as Klaus stood behind her. Everyone was singing Happy Birthday as she looked at the beautiful cake placed in front of her.
She smiled at everyone and blew the candles out, but she knew she already had everything she wanted. She looked up and smiled at Klaus, pulling him down by his collar and pecking him on the lips. He smiled as the lights turned back on and Caroline was handed a knife to cut the cake.
After everyone was handed a piece of cake Caroline went out into the hallway to catch her breath. She loved Klaus and knew she wanted to marry him, but being bombarded with all the questions about the wedding only hours after she got engaged sent put her a little on edge. She just needed some air and thought being in the hallway was the best way to do that.
"Hello Caroline," Elijah said as he closed the door.
Caroline smiled up at Elijah, "hey Elijah."
Elijah smiled warmly, stepping up to Caroline, handing her another glass of wine.
"Thanks," Caroline said as Elijah stood next to her.
"Happy birthday," Elijah said.
"Thanks," Caroline said as she took a sip of her drink. They stood next to each other for a few minutes before Elijah talked.
"So you and Klaus are going to get married?"
Caroline smiled as she took another sip of her drink," Yeah that's what happening."
Elijah smiled as he looked at Caroline, "thank you Caroline."
She looked at him confused, "Uh…what do you mean?"
"For believing in him," he smiled standing in front of her. "All of us know who Klaus really is and what he is capable of, but the rough up bringing definitely tainted how he sees himself. Not to mention losing Henry," Elijah sighed. "But since he's been with you the light in Klaus has been reignited and it's fantastic."
Caroline smiled shaking her head, "Klaus didn't need me to bring that back to life."
Elijah grabbed her hand, "Oh my dear sweet girl, it was because of you Klaus finally decided to start living," he padded her hands, "so thank you."
She smiled shyly nodding, "we brought each other back to life."
He smiled pulling Caroline into a hug.
"Now," he said pulling back, "in terms of wedding dresses, Katherine said she'd be more than happy to design yours." Caroline's mouth fell open in shock, earning a chuckle from Elijah. "That's of course if you want her to."
Caroline smiled nodding her head, "of course that would be amazing," she pulled Elijah back into a hug, "thank you."
Elijah smiled pulling back, "consider it as part of our wedding present." He smiled at her, "well I better get back inside. I'll leave you to your thoughts." She smiled nodding as Elijah went back inside. Caroline leaned against the wall taking a deep breath.
"Hey," Klaus said stepping out of their apartment walking up to Caroline, wrapping his arm around her waist, "you ok?"
She nodded, "I'm fine, just needed some air."
He smiled standing in front of her, putting his hands on her hips as she wrapped her arms around his neck, "it's been an eventful day."
She chuckled, "eventful is an understatement, it's been crazy."
Klaus laughed nodding, "true, but a good crazy, right?" he nudged her so she was looking at him.
Caroline smiled brightly, "it's more than good Nik," she kissed him lightly before reading her head against his chest, "it's perfect."
He sighed in relief, hugging Caroline tightly. They stood there in each other's embrace before the apartment door flew open and Elena was staring at them.
"You know this is your party," Elena said putting her hand on her hip, "why are you two in the hallway?"
Caroline pulled back from Klaus, laughing. She waved her hands at Elena to go back inside, both of them following her.
"It's time to open your gifts," Elena said happily, ushering Caroline to the dining room table. Caroline laughed as she was pushed into the chair in front of her gifts, her eyes widen in shock at the amount of gifts she had in front of her.
"Wow," she said looking at them, "these are all for me."
"Yes!" Elena said smiling as she sat next to her, "you have one from just about everyone."
"Geez," she said chuckling, "I guess I'll start from the top." She smiled taking the gift from the top of the pile. It was a small box wrapped in back and gold, she looked at the tag and smiled, "To my Care Bear, Love Matt," she laughed looking at Matt, "thanks babe." He winked at her as she started pulling the ribbon off.
"Oh Matt," she said pulling out the gold wishbone necklace, "where did you find it?"
"It's not your old one, but I knew how much that necklace meant to you," Matt smiled at her, "this can't replace the wishbone you got from your dad but hey this one can be from me."
Caroline chuckled standing up to give Matt a hug, "thanks Matty," she pulled back. "I love it."
"You're welcome," Matt kissed her cheek. Caroline sat back down and picked up another present, it was an envelope sitting at the edge of the table.
"That's from be," Bonnie said.
Caroline looked at her smiling as she opened the envelope, "aww thank you Bonnie. I'm going to need a spa day after this crazy day."
"It's for all of us," Bonnie said, "I figured it was time for us girls to have a day to ourselves."
"That sounds perfect," Elena said clapping her hands together.
Caroline laughed, holding up the spa pamphlet, "Yes! Girl time." All of them went into a fit of laughter, forgetting that everyone else was in the room. Caroline hugged Bonnie saying thank you before she grabbed another present.
"To my loving best friend," She read looking up at Elena, "thanks 'lena."
Caroline untied the red ribbon and opened the box. She smiled pulling up a necklace with a heart locket on it. "Elena this is beautiful."
"When I saw it in the store I knew it was perfect for you," Elena smiled.
"You guys are going to make me cry," Caroline said standing up as Matt, Bonnie and Elena piled around her hugging her, "I love you guys."
Caroline wiped away a tear from her cheek before sitting down and diving into her other gifts. She got one from Damon, Elijah and Katherine, Kol, Jesse, Jessica and Ben. She was very happy with everything she got and it was the most she's ever gotten for her birthday.
After everyone had a few more drinks and socialized, Caroline's birthday party was winding down.
Caroline held open the door for everyone to leave, "bye, thanks for coming." She smiled as everyone walked out of their apartment. When she closed the door, Caroline let out a breath of relief, "I'm so tired," she said walking up to the table to help Klaus clear it off.
He chuckled, "put it down," he stopped her, "let me clean up this mess you go take bath and relax."
She grinned wrapping her arms around his waist, giving him a kiss, "Thank you. Join me when you're done?" she smirked.
Klaus smiled pushing her hair behind her eyes, he pecked her lips, "of course" he pulled her arms away from his waist, turning her toward their bedroom, "now go get in the bath."
Caroline turned the water on for a bath. She poured a few bath salts in, turning the water a light blue. She started to get undressed as the tub filled with water. Caroline pined up her hair in the back, pushed play on her phone and sank into the warm water, the bubbles covering her body. She hummed in appreciation as her head leaned back against the tub.
Caroline's eyes were closed as she hummed along to song by California punk band Left Alone called Gone. Her foot lightly tapped at the end of the tub. She twitched when she felt hands on her feet. Her eyes shot open.
"Jesus," she breathed laughing, "you scared me."
Klaus chuckled, kissing the top of her foot, "sorry love." He stood up, "mind if I join you?" He smirked unbuttoning his shirt.
Caroline bit her lip and nodded as she watched Klaus undress in front of her. She felt a heat run through her body causing her to clench her legs together. Her desire to be with Klaus was still so strong that it surprised her each time she saw him. She never thought she'd be with anyone that had the ability to take her breath away, but Klaus did and she loved it. Her eyes raked across his chest as he slid off his shirt and started to unbuckle his belt. She was smiling when Klaus caught her eye.
"What," he said sliding off his pants. She shook her head. He chuckled and pulled off his boxer briefs, "scoot forward."
Caroline sat up, sliding forward as Klaus stepped in behind her. When he sat down he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her back to his chest. She sighed in content as her head fell back on his shoulder. She rested her hands on his thighs, running her fingers up and down. Klaus nuzzled her neck, placing a kiss behind her ear.
"Did you enjoy your birthday party?"
She hummed as he kissed along her should. She nodded, "I love it," she turned her head toward him opening her eyes, "thank you."
He smiled and leaned forward, capturing her lips. Caroline's hands instantly went to the side of Klaus' face. He pulled back smiling, kissing the tip of her nose, "you're welcome sweetheart."
Caroline smiled moving forward to get the loofa and body wash. She turned around so she was facing Klaus. She soaped up the loofa. She looked at Klaus and smiled. He smirked, resting his arms on the edge of the tub. She scooted forward on her knees and placed the loofa on Klaus' chest. She squeezed it and let the soap run down his chest before she moved the loofa in small circles. She moved it down his chest, her fingers grazing his abs. She smirked as she moved to the side of his ribs, earning a twitch from Klaus. She raised her eyebrow looking at him. His smirk fell when she dropped the loofa and started to tickle him.
He laughed as they swished water around, much of it splashing on the floor by the time he grabbed Caroline's wrists. He pulled her to him, catching his breath as she calmed down from laughing. He looked at her shaking his head, "that wasn't very nice."
She chuckled, "yes, well I saw an opportunity and I seized it," she smirked looking at him as Klaus held her hands to his chest.
He chuckled leaning forward, kissing her cheek. Caroline felt her body tense as he moved to her ear. He bit her lobe, "my turn."
His low voice sent a shiver down Caroline's spine as she swallowed a lump in her throat. Klaus turned her back around so her back was against his chest. He took the loofa and stared rubbing it along her shoulders, moving to her collar bone, down her breasts and across her stomach. Caroline felt her breathing quicken as Klaus moved the loofa lower, his fingertips grazing at the top of her sex. She sucked in a breath when he let the loofa go and moved his finger along her folds before cupping her sex with his hand.
Her head fell against Klaus shoulder as a moan escaped her lips. He kissed along the curve of her neck, stopping at her ear, "should I stop," he breathed pulling back his fingers. Caroline shook her head. He smirked against her skin before sucking on the nape of her neck as his finger slid between Caroline's folds, circling her clit. She gasped as her back arched and her hands gripped Klaus' thigh. She started move against his hand as his strokes got faster. Klaus dragged his tongue up her neck and bit her ear lobe causing Caroline to moan, loudly.
Caroline turned her head and caught Klaus' lips with hers. She moved her hand to his hair and pulled him closer. Klaus moaned into her mouth as she sucked on his tongue. Caroline could feel his erection against her back as she broke away to breath. Klaus moved his lips to her shoulder as he slipped his fingers inside her, she gasped, clenching around him as he pumped his fingers insider her.
"Nik," she exhaled, feeling the heat surge in her as he brought her closer and closer to the edge.
"That's it baby," he said sliding his arm around her waist, pulling her closer to him as she rocked back and forth on his hand.
Caroline felt her body get tense as Klaus held her tight against him while his fingers moved faster and faster. "Come for me Caroline," she heard with Klaus' breath on her ear and before she knew it her body exploded with an orgasm as she screamed his name.
Klaus eased her down with light strokes, until Caroline stopped grinding against his fingers. He felt her relax against his chest as he loosened his grip. He moved her hair off her neck and placed a light kiss. She moaned in appreciation as they sat in the cooling water for a few moments.
He smiled and kissed her head, "come," he said holding up her hand, "you're getting wrinkly."
She chuckled looking down at their hands. She laced her left hand with his and squeezed. Klaus smiled, kissing her cheek as he rested his chin on her shoulder. He held up her hand staring at the engagement ring he gave her only hours ago.
"You know," he smiled bringing her hand closer, "you really shouldn't wear this in the water."
Caroline turned slightly to look at him, "are you kidding," she smiled before pecking him on the lips, "I'm never taking it off."
A smiled engulfed Klaus' face as his arms wrapped around Caroline, pulling her closer before he kissed her. He held her tight, breaking away, pressing his forehead to hers, "now get out of this tub so I can make love to my future wife."
Caroline smiled, standing up. Water rolled off her body as she stepped out of the tub and grabbed a towel. Klaus quickly followed. They both dried off, wrapping the towels around their body, but as soon as Caroline took the pin out of her hair Klaus picked her up. She laughed wrapping her hands around his neck.
"So impatient Mr. Mikaelson," she chuckled as he walked her into their bedroom.
He smirked at her, kissing her nose. He put her down by the bed and pulled her towel off. Caroline smiled as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Klaus' hands slid down the sides of her body, resting on her hips. He gripped and pulled her close. She chuckled pulling his head to hers and kissing him. Caroline tugged his hair and nibbled on Klaus' lip. She ground her hips against his and felt his erection on her belly. She slid her hands down his chest and pulled his towel off. Klaus wrapped his arms around and crawled with her on the bed.
When Caroline's head hit the pillow he moved down to place kisses along her collar bone. "Do you have any idea how beautiful you are," he said, kissing across her chest.
Caroline laughed as he hand played with his hair, "do you have any idea how beautiful you are," she pulled his head up so he could look at her. She arched an eyebrow smiling.
He chuckled and pecked her lips, "I'm serious Caroline." Klaus pushed himself up so he was looking down on her, "you're," he leaned down to kiss her cheek, "absolutely," he kissed her temple, "breathtaking," he whispered against her lips before kissing her.
Caroline melted into Klaus' kiss, her hands wrapping around him, pulling him close. She loved the weight of his body on hers. She broke the kiss, breathing hard, "make love to me Klaus," she opened her eyes to see Klaus smiling at her.
He kissed her again, sliding his hand down her body, hooking her knee and wrapping her leg around his waist. He moved his hand to her sex and slid his finger between her folds. He groaned, "Always ready," he murmured between their hungry kisses. She moaned in his mouth when Klaus moved near her entrance. She arched her back, eager for him to be inside her.
"Nik," she breathed, her hands clenching his shoulder, "stop teasing me," she said biting his bottom lip and Klaus pushed inside her. She gasped as he moved in slowly so she could adjust to him. He pulled back and pushed again causing Caroline to clench around him as he filled her up. Klaus groaned as he placed hot kissed on Caroline's neck.
Caroline wrapped her legs around him as Klaus moved. Her breathing was coming in fast as she kissed Klaus' shoulder. She felt his hot breath on her neck and the sweat from their bodys heightens his scent. Caroline loved the way Klaus' smelled, it was hard to describe because it was purely him. Sure there was always a hint of expensive cologne but Caroline could tell the difference. Klaus pulled back and Caroline moaned at the loss of contact.
He chuckled and pulled her up to him as he sat on the bed. He slid back into her with ease as Caroline straddled him. Klaus wrapped his arms around her pulling her close until there was no space between them. She moaned loudly at the new position, letting her head fell back at how deep Klaus was. She circled her hips causing Klaus to suck in a breath through gritted teeth. Klaus licked up her neck before kissing the edge of her jaw.
"Look at me," he said. Caroline looked down at him, smiling as his hair stuck to his forehead. She leaned down and kissed him, sliding her tongue in his mouth. Klaus moaned, digging his fingers in to her hips as he pushed into Caroline, harder.
"Come with me sweetheart," he said breaking the kiss. As if his voice was the key Caroline felt her body starts to tremble as he orgasm built throughout her body. Klaus pulled her close, kissing her neck, "that's it love," he breathed, feeling her clench around him, "let go."
"Oh…Nik!" she screamed, her head falling back as her orgasm shook through her body. Her hands clenched on to Klaus' back, her nails digging into his skin. The pain pushed Klaus over the edge as he pumped a few more times before her name left his lips and he spilled inside her. They both held each other, breathing heavily. Caroline rested her head on Klaus' shoulder as he ran his hands up and down her back.
He kissed her shoulder before lifting her off him by her waist, putting her on the bed beside him. Caroline turned toward him, laying her head on his chest and draping her leg over his hips. Klaus wrapped his arm around her and kissed the top of her head.
She sighed in content, nuzzling against his chest. Klaus chuckled as his hands ran up and down her back, "what is it sweetheart?"
She shook her head, "nothing," she looked up at him, "I can't just be happy," she kissed his chest, "and enjoy the fact that the man I'm about to marry has the body of a god."
Klaus laughed pulling her up to his face, capturing her lips in a kiss. Her hand went to his cheek. He pulled back pecking her lips, "I knew you were only after my body." She smacked his chest, he chuckled, "it's yours for the rest of our lives Caroline." He moved her hand over his heart, "especially this part." Caroline smiled softly as she looked at their hands. She looked back up at Klaus, moving to kiss his lips. Klaus gripped his arm around her, deepening the kiss.
