A/N: It's been a terribly long time (last chapter I graduated high school, and now in 6 months I'll be graduating university. What!?). I don't watch H50 anymore, but I hate the thought of this being left unfinished, so continuing on…
There was panic everywhere. Although the nurses and doctors were telling patients to evacuate from an electrical failure in the building, there were hushed whispers of 'bomb' and 'threat' between law enforcements that got out and before anyone knew, everyone was scrambling to leave.
Loud, urgent voices filled the air, the ground floor was filled with panic stricken faces scanning the crowd, horrified patients were being wheeled out accompanied by terrified phone calls. No one noticed the man in the cop uniform calmly walking the opposite direction from the crowd, and into the building.
Howard smiled to himself. He revelled in other people's fear. He wanted everyone to feel the same panic, the same dread that he felt when he got the call to come to the hospital, that something had happened to his wife. His sweet, sweet Natalie.
He headed to the front desk, where a nurse was frantically reaching out to nearby hospitals for backup resources.
"We have around 50 critical, we need beds NOW. ETA 10 minutes…."
"Excuse me - "
"All incoming patients will be redirected to your hospital..-"
He shoved his fake police badge (oh ebay) under her nose. "I need to know where Officer Kono Kalakaua is-"
"Sir, as you can see, I don't have time for this, we are evacuating from a BOMB THREAT, please follow everyone and help move peo-"
"Yes I am aware, Officer Kalakaua is the target of this perp's bomb threat. I need to warn her now. Which room is she in?"
"Oh god, so it's true?" She quickly types something on her computer. "Room 723, 7th floor, take the stairs."
He was so close.
"NO CHIN, I am NOT going to sit in that chair and get wheeled out like a useless person. I am FINE. Lets go." Kono quickly grabbed her badge and gun on the table and stood up, trying to ignore the painful throbbing in her head.
"NO" Danny and Steve yelled simultaneously.
"I don't care. This guy is not going to kill anymore people. I have to stop him. He did this to me, and I'm not going to let him get away with it."
"Fine, we don't have time to argue, but you stay behind me." Chin said sternly, glancing at his cousin. Steve frowned, but he didn't have time to argue.
They all darted out the door, scanning the floor. Barely half the hospital had evacuated, and everyone was struggling
A doctor rushed by with a child in his arms. He yelled to them as he dashed by.
"There's no way we can evacuate everyone! We don't have enough resources. There are too many immobile people to move, and we have many patients in the OR doing critical surgery and are unable to leave. We don't know what to do, please help!"
"There's no way we can evacuate. We NEED to find Howard before he sets the bomb off." Steve said. "But he's been here so long, he can be anywhere. Chin and Kono, you head downstairs and scan the first few floors and help anyone you can get out. "
"He has no one left to care for in this world. If this is his endgame, he may want to take himself out too. Be careful." Danny added.
"Hey, be careful." Steve whispered to Kono as they embraced.
"You too boss."
Their eyes lingered and she turned and followed Chin through the fire escape door.
He was there. He reached the boiler room and planted the bomb. In minutes, the whole building would crumble, taking everyone with it.
The timer ticked: 3:48….. 3:47….
He knew how competent H50 was, and he wasn't going to give them the chance to disarm the bomb. He stood close to it, in the shadows, and clocked his gun.
A/N: Not much McKono, but good things come to those who wait ;)
