Fire…

A weapon used since the beginning of time, and yet it held such warmth in its flames. Warmth that seemed to dull her senses.

Rebekah's head rolled on her shoulders, as she struggled to wake from her slumber. "Stefan…"

"Stefan is not here, Goddess, and for the moment you should be glad."

Her eyes opened ever so slightly, and with a gasp, she took in the figure in front of her. "No,"

He smiled, and stepped towards her, lifting his right hand to caress her face, gently. "Yes, my dear. I'm Silas, and you are my bride."

Stefan cracked the gates with the hammer he had pulled from the fire, and growled as the gates only moved an inch.

How could Rebekah leave his side without him knowing? It seemed unlikely that she would go to face Silas on her own, after promising, no vowing, they would destroy him together.

He shook his head, and finally slammed the hammer against the gates, and smirked with small victory as the gates collapsed with fire.

He stilled as he noticed the fire that had consumed his love was now abated, and had moved to the far reaches of the Underworld.

Why?

His vision turned to the palace, and he narrowed his eyes. Klaus and his family had been trapped, but no longer.

Nodding his head, he ran as fast as he could, with his limp leg, and headed for the palace.

He had to see.

Klaus closed his eyes, and slowly shook his head. His beloved wife lay on the bed in their bedroom, motionless with the exception of her chest rising and falling, but she was not waking up.

He lifted his right hand, and caressed her face before lifting her left hand with his, and held it close to his chest.

"Klaus! Caroline!"

Klaus turned his head, and frowned when Stefan came into view.

Stefan stepped through the door, the hammer in his hand blazed with fire from his anger. "Are you alright?" He asked, with panted breathe, before turning his gaze to Caroline.

Klaus shook his head. "No, I'm not." He stated, standing up, and releasing his wife's hand. "The fire engulfed out home, Stefan." He began, stepping towards his friend. "Caroline thought she heard a voice, and though I tried to stop her, she went towards the fire." He added, shaking his head. "The moment the fire touched her hand, she fell to the ground." He concluded, his voice clenching with emotion, and his eyes spilling over with tears.

"I haven't been able to wake her since." He added, turning his head to his unconscious wife.

Stefan swallowed, and closed his eyes. "Silas," He muttered through clenched teeth. "He's taken Rebekah." He added, opening his eyes to find his friend glaring at him.

"What do you need?" Klaus asked, his voice conveying his anger and heartache.

Stefan shook his head. "You'll need to stay with your wife, Klaus. This fight is mine." He stated, stepping back to the door.

Klaus narrowed his eyes, before turning to his wife. "What about the fire?" He asked, moving towards Caroline. "What did it do to her?" He asked, before turning back to his friend.

Stefan swallowed, and looked over his shoulder. "Pray that it only knocked her out, because the other outcome will kill you both." He answered, before he could take another step, Klaus called to him again.

"What other outcome?"

Stefan closed his eyes, and turned his body fully to his friend. "Silas can manipulate fire that's what made him so powerful before." He began, swallowing as he gazed at Caroline's sleeping form.

"He did it before years ago, when I was born." He continued in a low voice. "The fire could have embedded itself in Caroline's veins, and could be burning her to death from the inside out." He added, with regret.

Klaus shook his head. "How do I stop it?" He asked, forcefully.

Stefan started to shake his head, but Klaus threw an object across the room before letting out a shout.

"You don't seem to understand, Stefan." Klaus shouted, stepping towards his friend. "I can't and I won't lose my wife!" He stated, angrily. "She's the light, my light, and I will not lose her." He remarked, pointing his left hand back towards his wife.

"I nearly lost her once, and it nearly destroyed me! I refuse to let this happen again!" He shouted, anger and pain filling his eyes. "Now, damn it, tell me what to do?!" He shouted, with his body nearly shaking from rage or fear, Stefan couldn't tell, maybe a mix of both.

Stefan sighed, and closed his eyes. "The bidents I made for you, you still have them?" He asked, though he knew Klaus did. Watching his friend nod, he swallowed. "The bidents, when thrusted into someone, burns from the inside out, you've seen it." He began, struggling to get the words out. "It may work the same way with removing the fire from within her." He added, with a low tone.

Klaus swallowed. "I won't stab my wife!" He stated, angrily.

"You won't have a choice, Klaus." Stefan returned, with just as much force. "If the fire is not stopped, it will give her a slow death, and near the point of death, she may turn against you." He added, with as much calm as he could muster. "It's either let it burn her, or try to save her." He added at the end.

Klaus sighed, and clamped his eyes shut. He was silent for a few moments, trying to come up with another way, but he knew, just as Stefan knew, there was no other way. Opening his eyes, he turned to his wife, and reached out his right hand.

"Go," He whispered, turning his head to Stefan. "Save my sister." He added, though his heart wasn't completely in it.

Stefan nodded in understanding, and backed up. "Good luck, Klaus." He wished, before disappearing through the door.

Klaus swallowed, and knelt down beside his wife's sleeping body, and grabbed her left hand, only to bring it to his lips. "My love, please forgive me. If this doesn't work, know that I love you, I will always love you." He whispered, with his heart breaking. "But please, fight, you've done it once before, so I'm asking, begging, that you do it again, for me, for our daughter. Please, Caroline, fight. Come back to me." He whispered, his voice breaking as the tears rolled down his cheeks.

He could feel a burn inside his body, and he knew what he had to do.

Reaching up with his right hand, he called to the bidents.

Rebekah shook her head, trying to snap out of the daze that filled her mind. Thoughts of what he had said to her came flooding back, and she tried to shake her head once again, trying to get them into focus.

"Why am I here?" She whispered, as she focused on him on the other side of a darkened room, watching the fire from the balcony. "What happened to my brother?!" She asked, louder.

Silas smiled, and turned to face her. "You're here because I called to you, my dear, and as for your brother and his family…" He paused, clasping his hands behind his back as he moved towards her. "Well, your sister-in-law has been neutralized." He added, with a smile.

"What did you do?!" She shouted, panic rising in her chest. If Klaus lost Caroline… Oh, she shuddered to think.

He smiled and bowed his head. "My fire has entered her body, and if my calculations are correct, then she should be near death very soon." He answered, with a chuckle.

She began to shake her head. "What could you possibly gain from killing her?" She asked, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Klaus' distraction," He answered, simply, moving towards her. "If I know my nephew then he will get lost in the fire as well, so two gods down, and the rest to go." He added, shrugging his shoulders.

Rebekah shook her head in disbelief. "What about Stefan?" She asked, knowing her love would be coming for her.

Silas' smile faded a fraction, and he shrugged his shoulders once again. "His love for you will be his undoing." He stated with disdain in his voice.

She swallowed, and shook her head; her lips began to form the word no. "What…" She began, hearing him chuckle.

He smiled, and touched her face with his left hand. "Your father, in order to try to spare his precious kingdom, gave you to me to be my wife, but then the prophesies rebutted the arrangement." He remarked, roughly. "Only Stefan can save you, but he's not going to." He added with a sneer.

She tried to move her arms against the chains as she stood imprisoned against the wall, but she couldn't move an inch.

"How can he love or save someone when she belongs to another?" He asked, with a chuckle. "Especially one who is not a cripple."

Her eyes flashed, and she jerked her head in anger. "Stefan is not a cripple, and he is more of a man that you are." She nearly yelled, in his face.

His face fell at her passionate response, and the fires around them burned brighter than before. "We'll see about that." He added, before turning on his heel, and left her alone, chained to the wall, hoping beyond hope that Stefan would come, and make the prophesy come true.

Love can set her free, and only her love can strengthen him enough to bring them happiness, and defeat Silas once and for all.

All she had to do was hold on.

Hold on.

Please be kind!
