OK guys so this is going to be a pretty rushed and crammed chapter . I tried to make it as long as possible but I decided that I'd made you guys wait long enough, so…ta-da! Presenting you the I-have-no-idea-how-long-probably-too-short Chapter 7 of "Reborn to a Mother's Womb!"
Now, I absolutely do not own Harry Potter, and I also have little-to-no inspiration coming through right now but I love you guys so much. Reviews = motivation = faster/longer updates.
Also, this is a pretty random question, but…what would you guys like to see more in this fic? I'm planning on more character development, James getting all cute and protective, and Sirius finally meeting a girl who thinks he's just plain creepy. Cause I don't get to tease him like that very often. And I feel like it. So yeah.
^_^"
OK, now on with the show!

Chapter 7
Corona awoke with a silent start, flinching violently. The phantom sounds of air raid sirens still sounded in her mind, and for a moment, she was still buried beneath the rubble of a burning building, staring up at an ashy sky, magic gone as she felt lives rapidly snuffed out everywhere around her.
She blinked rapidly for a few moments, staring at the stone-gray of the castle walls and feeling in the distance the hum of Hogwarts' wards. Safe, the magic told her. Safe.
A few shaky breaths later, she was calm and composed to the untrained eye. Her magic was stirring beneath her skin agitatedly, and the memories of her most recent death fresh in her mind, but she utilized the years and years of Occlumency experience she had and shoved all those dark thoughts in a tiny corner in the back of her mind.
In and out, she told herself. In and out…why did my nightmares suddenly act up? I thought I'd gotten over that when I was a newborn…
Shaking her head in dismissal, Corona stopped abruptly when she realized how light her head was. She raised a forcibly-stilled hand to the back of her head—ah. Right, I cut my hair. I forgot. Purposefully ignoring the fact that there had been a god-forsaken rat in her hair, she focused on the fact that
I'm late for Potions class, aren't I?
She bit her lip in consternation and closed her eyes even as a headache began to start pounding in tandem with her heartbeat.
"Tempus," she told the air and opened her eyes, pausing as the time was spelled out before her.
Ah. I'm only five minutes late…that's good. Very good. What room is it in again? I think I heard James say it was in the dungeons. But which of them? My most recent was aboveground because some potions needed sunlight…I suppose I can just go around knocking doors then. Or maybe the 'Point Me' spell. Let's try that one first.
Darting up to Ravenclaw Tower took her only two minutes, but descending to the dungeons took her another five, even at the fast-paced sprint she was running and the shortcuts she took. In the end, she was fifteen minutes late, arriving at the entrance of the classroom and taking a few moments to compose herself. The raven-haired girl knocked thrice on the door and turned the handle, finding herself faced with a classroom of Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs dutifully taking notes as the round-bellied Horace Slughorn turned around in surprise.
She snapped off a perfect 30-degree bow, "My apologies for arriving late, Professor. I'm afraid I am not as familiar with the castle layout as I had hoped to be."
He gave her a confused but genial smile, "No problem, my dear, though do endeavor to arrive punctually next time. Take a seat," he gestured to the room. "Ah, and…what was your name again?"
"Corona Potter, Professor," she answered and frowned lightly in confusion at the surprised expression that appeared on many faces in the classroom. "Is there something wrong?"
"No, nothing," Slughorn patted her gently on the shoulder and ushered her from the front of the room.
She took a seat in the back corner, one of the few seats left available, and pulled out a roll of parchment, an inkwell, and a quill. Soon, Slughorn began to lecture again and the only sounds in the classroom were his voice and the almost ear-piercing scratching of quills against parchment that she had long since accustomed herself to.
Corona could feel her eyes drifting shut, lids heavy as she struggled with the need to sleep. In response, she deliberately straightened her posture from where she was starting to slouch and dutifully wrote down everything that came from Slughorn's mouth.
You know, I don't see why we don't just use dicto-quills. I guess because he's too far away for us sometimes. I should create a spell that just writes down everything it hears. But then I'd have to adjust the frequency and stuff to make sure that it only picks up what I want it to; otherwise, it'd be a huge mess of disjointed words and wouldn't make any sense whatsoever. Hm…food for thought I guess. Maybe for one day when I have more free time on my hands…
She straightened again and inhaled silently but sharply.
Get ahold of yourself, stupid! Corona scolded herself. I can't believe I'm getting so tired recently…and the nightmares are coming back. Why now though? In my previous lives, I got over most of my trauma in my earlier years…maybe it's because of how close I am to my first lifetime? Come to think of it, my mere existence could destroy my past self's soul, meaning that I would never get born…
Barely suppressing a groan, she pushed that too into a dark corner of her mind.
Forget it, she told herself. It's not important right now. Right now, I have to focus on being the best younger sister James could ever hope for. I have to guide him and his friends and make sure that none of their mistakes will backlash on them. I…I won't see them suffer like that again.
She thinks back to the only memories she had of the three best friends, the only memories of her first life that she never pushed out of her mind, that she relived every night in her dreams.
The sound of her now-brother's voice, filled with desperation yet determination, with so much foolish love and courage that she just wanted to shake him by the shoulders—"Go! Take her and run!"
The look on Sirius' face the first time she met him, the haunted, haggard expression, the emaciated form, naught but a shadow of the lively young boy she knew now. The pained smile etched on his face as he used his body as a human shield to protect her from the deadly spells being shot across the room—"I promised them I'd protect you, Safira. I failed them once; I won't fail them again." His body as the Order dragged him from her arms, the hopeless hope that he was not dead, that he would open his eyes again…
The wounds on Remus, who had died fighting, who had had his throat ripped out, who had suffered such great pain before finally succumbing to his wounds, who never had the chance to watch his son grow up, the roaring agony painted across his expression as he died, never knowing whether his death would be in vain…
Those were the memories that she was fighting for; she refused to let that happen to them again. They had been precious to her in her first life…and thanks to her eidetic memory, she never forgot about them. Her memory, for all that it seemed a blessing at first, was truly oftentimes also a curse to her. While she never forgot the important and happy things she had experienced, she also never forgot the painful trials and struggles she had undergone in her previous lives.
Well, enough of that, the blue-eyed girl told herself, closing her eyes. I…I should focus on the present, not that past, like I was thinking. I won't forget those memories, but I will also not lose myself in them in the daytime while I still can.
Corona zoned back in to reality just in time to hear, "Class dismissed" from Slughorn and blinked rapidly.
Oh. That…was fast.
She looked down to see that she had automatically copied down everything she had heard; semi-neat notes sprawled across the parchment. Silently but efficiently, she packed up everything into her bag and followed after the rest of her classmates to her next class.
"Thank you, Professor," she remembered to say.
Slughorn looked a bit surprised to hear that from her, but he gave a genial smile nonetheless.
"You're welcome, Miss Potter," he responded before turning away.
Just one more class and then lunch, Corona thought to herself, and then lunch break. Lovely. I wonder if I should grow my hair out? I was a bit lazy over summer break and didn't bother cutting my hair, but it seems that no one recognizes me with my hair so short in comparison to before. On the other hand, it is a lot more freeing with shorter hair…
She sighed.
It doesn't matter. I'll think more about it later. For now…I have to get to class.
Finite Incantatum.
Hurrah~ so that's another chapter finished! ^_^ total word count for this chapter was, not including Author's Notes or anything, 1414 words~ forgive me for taking forever. ;) I was scrolling through my stories and I thought: Wow. My writing style has seriously changed. But I actually have readers, which is SUPER novel to me for some reason (I have no idea why now~ ^_^") I'm sorry for taking so long guys! I was going to upload this a few weeks ago but then my computer decided to crash on me and took like half the chapter with it. Hope this is good enough for you guys~ ;)
Ah, and I almost forgot. The word count for the previous six chapters total including author's notes was 7,820. I divided that by 6 to get the average word count per chapter, which turned out to be 1303 and made that my goal for word count for this chapter (and I managed to get past it hehe~) The total word count for this chapter including author's notes is 2121 but the chapter itself is 1414. Hurrah! ;)
I'm seriously sorry for taking so long guys. On the other hand, I feel like I've managed to destroy some "Mary Sue" conceptions along the way, so hope it's okay! ^-^
