Now what? Was the only thing going through Hei's mind. He was breaking out of this weird prison and almost was caught when suddenly he was about to make acquaintances with the ground had he not spun in mid air and landed instead as graceful as a cat on his feet. He looked at his sirroundings and saw he was in the middle of country area, either way he was lost and there was most likely no one around for the next ten miles.
Hei looked to his right and saw empty dark fields, to his left a thin road slithered through trees and a forbidding lifeless sky followed it to nowheres vill. Hei was tired and still had not found Yin adding on to his frustrations and confusions Hei chose to go left. He figured if a road was built in the middle of the amazon then it must lead to some sort of civilization.
He didn't know how long he walked, it could have been an hour for all he cared. Hei couldn't stop thinking about Yin. How scared she was, where she was, by herself with strangers doing how know what to her. If they knew what Yin really was then they wouldn''t take the neccisity of feeding her. And... an aweful thought came to mind, who knows what the men would do to her out of spite and malice. Hei couldn't walk straight knowing the dangers Yin could be in. She wasn't just a Doll to him, Yin was his friend and if anything happened to his friends then he would make sure the one at fault wouldn't ever be able to "make any new friends" of their own ever again.
Soon he reached a town and made his way through the darkened streets to an inn. When he entered the wooden floor boards dirtied with dust stuck to his shoes and the odd smell of horse hay filtered his nose. The curious answer answered him with a nay from outside and behind the glass figurine cabinet he could see led to a barn and inside was a horse sticking his head through the split door. Hei checked in and the fat grubby man heaved under his belly and lifted a pair of keys and handed them over, hefting his big boots back on the counter. The inn had a small spaced stairwell heading to the second floor; it wasn't worth Hei's money but he was in no mood to go back out and look for another place. As long as he could sleep, the inn did its job.
Hei found his room and eased the door behind him looking as though it might fall off its hinges. He scanned the room for any bugs, he was suspicious, finding none he checked the bed. A moldy run down, dented to the side, corpse smelling mattress was the perfect description to fit the whole room. A lamp table, the legs chipped, a musty rug and stained curtains he didn't want to know what with covering the person tall window. Must definitely the worst place he's ever stayed. Hei rested back in the bed revisiting the images of the day in his head. The walls were thin, the voices in the next room banged against the cheap walls and Hei could hear every word of the argument between two men. Hei blocked out them the two idiots and tried to sleep. Not even five minutes into the argument the men on the other side began to bang on the walls and one raised his voice, the other sounded frightened and yelled defiantly, he was countered by the other man yelled and hitting his fist again.
"I said stop yelling at me. If the big man boss was here he would say it too." One obviously shook.
"Well he's not here, I am. So that means I'm in charge and I say shut your flabber and get off my bed."
Hei turned over and stuffed the pillow over his head.
"You- you can't tell me what to do. I'm not- your not the boss of me!" The idiotic scared one said.
"Let me get this straight. You think you can ignore my authority?" The bigger sounding one growled.
"What? No I- I didn't-" The pip sqweak quieted and Hei heard him whimper, "no."
"Then I suggest you get your fat oval butt off the sheets." More pounding then silence. Hei could visualize a duanting man cruled up on the floor and a hairy mistached man cracking his hairy knuckles lying in the bed. Hei closed his eyes, this time hoping to keep them closed for a few hours, he was asleep faster than he hit the pillow.
An hour and seventeen minutes later
Someone banged on the hallway door waking an angry Hei from his nap. He growled in his pillow and turned over. He went to the door but stopped, the banging was on the next door. It slammed open and the grouchy man from earlier hissed, "who the hell do you think you are calling this late- oh its you- uhgg." The door closed and the big tough guy shut up. Hei contemolated to himself wondering who was at the door so late, and why the man arguing just less then 90 minutes ago that he was the top dog had abruptly shut his trap at the sudden appearance of whoever. Hei removed the bed covers and sprung himself closer to the wall leaning an ear against it. The big burly man said something snappy to his counterpart and Hei imagined the tumbling sound was him falling over in surprise of his rude awakening. The men coughed awkwardly and then someone murmured something.
"No. We haven't found him yet. I think he's still here in Ireland for a few days until he crosses the border." Big Man said.
"There's no sign of the sanctuary though. I don't think we know that they don't know that we're on to them." Fraidy Mouse quipped. "Ou. What was that for."
"Shut up. These walls have ears." Thenew voice silently shouted. Both men stilled. The big brute walked over to the wall and slide the picture covering the secret hole and looked in the next room. He could see part of the bed and the floor all the way up to the door. "There's no one in that room. This hotel is more vacant than the kitchen."
"I don't care about complaints," the mysterious man said. "I want what I paid for and Silas Nadir has what I want. Find him and if you must, use force. A broken Shunter is better than none at all." The door creaked open and when the two men looked out the hall the visitor was gone.
"So... Do we go looking for him now?" Fraidy asked.
"We look for him... in the morning. I need my beauty sleep." Big guy said pretending to yawn then climbed in the bed.
"But can I-"
He clicked the safety and pointed it towards his partner. "Me. Bed. You. Couch. Don't argue with a gun."
"Yes sir," he answered shakily. Hei climbed down from the ceiling and grabbed his bag. He took something from his pocket and slipped it through the hole in the wall. Now it was time for a little research.
After four serving of eggs, 15 pancakes, three mugs of coffee and a little tray filled with ten small cakes Hei payed the exhausted chef the bill and headed down the street to the library. It wasn't impressive; a building with sliding doors and an umbrella rack. Two late boxes biult into the side of the wall and a small desk to check out at, yeah nothing special. Hei needed the internet access. His computer already looking up. files that match what was typed in. The records came up and Hei skimmed quickly over the files, none of them were of use and he started over. He put in Silas Nadir, the name from the night before and typed in 'shunting'. The computer beeped. It read no data and heeped at the empty contents. Hei searched it again but again came up with nothing. The less bravado man said something about a sanctuary. He didn't know t he meant by it but decided to find somewhere with a little more gateway access. Hei packed and looked down to his beeping pocket. The red dot moved on the screen and Hei took off quickly following it.
He rounded corner and stopped short. Dumbo and Muscles were right in front of him. Muscles looked around him suspiciously then shoved Fraidy inside an old movie theatre. Hei followed behind, when he went inside there was only one screen plastered in ribbons on the wall. The arguing couple echoed throughout the walls but Hei had no idea where they had went. Walked up to the front. The only door there was is the back door leading to the back of the theatre. It looked as though no one had been their for years, yet the voices of the two soften letting him know they were still there besides the tracker he put on their jackets. A long creeping feeling crawled up his back and Hei turned sharply. There was nothing behind him but the feeling still there. He walked closer to the front and the feeling returned. He turned but then his face was covered.
