A.N. I amazingly had a full thing typed up here before I quit for a while, jebus I'm lazy. Again, sorry for the lateness in this. Life gets pretty stupid sometimes.

Chapter 11

You'll never make it out

The room was filled with the sounds of gargled breaths as Rochelle's lungs quickly filled with blood. Phil struggled trying to pull out the Ax from her chest, slowly it started to move. Nick grunted as he tried to push the zombie off Ellis one more time, this time with success. The dead creature fell with a thud against the wall. Ellis tried to pull himself up but was barely able to move. "N-Nick my leg." Ellis whispered looking at Phil while grabbing Nick's hand. "Doesn't matter. Move!" Nick pulled Ellis up as he kept an eye on Phil trying to figure out how fast the kid was going to be or if they had time to run. Rochelle was still alive, it wasn't going to be long before she finally passed. He hated her, but he never wished this on her. She continued to twitch and choke on her own blood, trying to look at them. It'd be the last time she'd save them, as she often did. Nick grabbed Ellis's gun, she was a distraction, and he was going to use it.

It became a race, Nick to reload the gun, and Phil to try and pull the Ax out of their friends chest. Nick was going to win, he had to. He wasn't going to let anything else happen to Ellis. He fumbled in his pocket for a bullet, a clip, anything he could use to fire this damn gun. It was then Rochelle used the last of her strength to grab the Ax, trying her hardest to hold it down. It wasn't much and it caused Phil to laugh full and hard. "You think you'll save them? They hate you... And I'm getting him to myself..."

Nick finally found the bullets. He unloaded the clip in the gun to reload with the two bullets he found. He swiftly loaded and clicked the clip back into place. He was ready.

"Phil!" Nick yelled aiming at the kid as he had done every walker for a year. "Turn around and face me so I can shoot your fucking brains out." All this rage, he was finally going to get revenge for the kid shooting him, and now, for killing their friend.

The laughter died. Phil realized he took too long, and now the panic of what he'd done set in. Rochelle's last breath ended with a grin as she looked up at him. She coughed blood one last time, before slowly her hands fell to the floor and her head lulled to the side. Ellis gasped looking at his friend before looking at Phil. "What the hell man!" He yelled, tears quickly streaming down his face. "WHAT THE HELL!"

"He hurt you." Phil mumbled slowly turning around to face them. "He hurt you and she wanted to hurt you... If I kill them both then I only have ta worry bout the fat ass and then I get ta keep you with me." Nick was taken back a moment before narrowing his eyes. "You did shoot me... I fucking knew it. You shot me to try and help Ellis!"

"I aint need no savin!" Ellis yelled staring in horror at his friend still. "Aint need no saving like that man! THE FUCK IS WRONG WIT YOU!" He pointed at Rochelle's lifeless corpse as Phil looked down at her before back at the two. "WHAT THE FUCK MAKES YOU THINK THATS SAVIN ME!"

"You're just like me thou. You're all confused an yeah fit in. Pa likes you and Ma likes you, so you should stay." Phil realized he had his own distraction now, a hand slowly sliding behind him to the handle of the ax. Nick clicked the hammer of the gun back. "Fucking move again and it's a bullet through your eye." Phil's hands quickly went to his sides. He was slowly realizing he needed to face his fate, and it didn't look as he had hoped for. "I don't care what you think you were doing, you fucked up... twice." Nick watched Phil before looking at their surroundings. "I hope you don't think you're going back home now."

"Pa will get mad if I don't come home..." Phil said slowly before starting to grin again. "He'll know you did something, he'll kill you and your friends..." He thought he had him, he was going to corner the con man into letting him live and then he'd get him later. "Your dad will get your body." Nick whispered before lowering the gun and shooting Phil's knee cap. The kid screamed in pain as he fell to the floor. He didn't stop screaming as he pulled his leg to his chest. Nick could hear the walkers that were still alive in the hall ways start to move towards them.

"Go." Nick growled as he grabbed Ellis and their bag trying to get Ellis to start the opposite way of where the walkers where coming from. Ellis tried but fell "Fuck man my leg!" Nick looked down at Ellis's leg before handing him the bag. "Hold it." Ellis nodded then let out a soft cry as Nick picked him up bridal style. Nick then began to sprint down the hall, leaving Phil to scream in pain alone as the walkers started running towards the room. Nick made a left and started for the end of the hall. There had to be a safe room, there had to be something, they had to get away from the walkers and fast.

There was a shut door up ahead. They had to take a chance, they had to do something. He ran towards it before setting Ellis down against the wall. "Sit." He then grabbed his gun again before slowly opening the door. The screaming Phil was doing was enough to distract any walker, but there was still no chance to be made with Ellis in pain. He flung open the door gun pointed as he scoped out the room. It was the kitchen, and it was empty. Nick grabbed Ellis again, bringing him into the room and shut the door behind them. The breath Nick left out was shaky, he knew he could breath easy for a minute, but only that. He pushed the table before them against the door, before going around the room to see if there was another door to barricade. Of course, the door to the cafeteria. He looked into the empty space full of rows and rows of tables where kids used to sit and eat. The feeling of sorrow hit him like a sack of bricks like it had the first time they'd done this. All those lost souls... dead because of one fuck up by adults. Now he had to have a kid dead, one of the last ones alive, because he was fucked up in the head from all of this mess. Within the silence of the room, the echo of Phil's screams slowly echoed, the kid was dying... getting the fate he deserved. In a world where no one was left to help him, he needed to die. One way or another.

He didn't have time to feel pity for Phil. He didn't have time to feel for anything right now except the safety of himself and Ellis. He rubbed his face before running to the door leading to the cafeteria and barricaded it as well. He leaned against the door for a moment, trying to calm his thoughts and himself. "Why me?" It echoed behind him, Ellis whimpered before slowly slumping to the floor. "Why... What did I even do?"

Nick couldn't answer that, he wasn't sure anyone could really answer that now. He stared at the door for what seemed like eternity as he tried to think of a way to answer his friend. "She's dead... cuz that kid liked me? I don't... what's even happening?" He couldn't leave him alone, the kid was starting to lose it. "Ellis." He whispered before pushing against the door, then turned to walk back over to him. "Why does shit keep happenin to me?" Ellis asked as he looked at Nick as he came back. He was holding his leg still, clutching it hard against his chest as he sat there. "I just don't..." Ellis started to softly cry as he looked away from Nick. "Fuck man."

"Let me see your leg." Nick mumbled as he sat in front of him. He didn't see any blood so at least he wasn't bitten. Ellis let go of his leg slowly and let Nick roll up his pants so he could give him a quick look. "Nothings broken, you likely just sprained it. We should wait for a bit, if it still hurts to stand I'll carry you back." Ellis nodded looking away still, trying to hide that he was crying from Nick.

"Shit keeps happening because the worlds fucked up now. Nothings right anymore." Nick stated as he continued to look at Ellis's leg. "There's nothing we can do to stop the shit that's happening around us..." Ellis continued to look down, he could feel tears streaming down his face as he thought about his dead friend, and the kid he'd grown fond of. "But, we can try and make our own suffering a little less of a mess." Nick took Ellis's chin in his hand and looked him dead in the eye. "Nick..." Ellis whispered. Nick moved a hand to brush away the tears before kissing his cheek. "I love you."

Ellis's eyes grew wide as he looked at Nick. Those words made his heart flutter, and his shoulders drop as if a large weight had just been taken off of them. He could feel his breath catch in his throat as he stared into the others eyes. "W-what?" He managed as he tried to get his damn lungs to work right. "I love you." Nick said a bit louder this time. "I... I thought ya said that." Ellis grinned slowly before leaning forward and kissing Nick. The two shared a passionate kiss for a moment before Nick pulled away. "Okay... stay there while I look around. Just because of a fuck up doesn't mean we don't need any more food then we did before." Ellis nodded slowly as he held the bag against his chest. "Just rest."

Nick moved around the room trying to find any dry foods that were still useable and not full of bugs and otherwise. He avoided the freezer and fridges like hell as he could smell the odor from within from outside the doors already. As he moved from cabinet to cabinet he pulled out each thing that was still good. Either no one had ever thought to come here for food, or someone had been using this as a storage, because the amount of food he found was ridiculous. "Okay. This is more then we can carry Ellis." Nick looked back at the other. "I really hope you can walk again."

Ellis slowly attempted to stand, he slowly put weight down on his foot again. It hurt, but he could deal with that pain. "Yeah, I can do it." He looked at Nick before slowly making his way back over to the others. "Okay. We gotta go back the way we came to get the guns. We get home, I'll grab Coach and come back for Phil and Rochelle's body." Ellis nodded solemnly before holding open the bag for Nick. They slowly filled up the bag to the brim, barely able to close it shut. Nick looked at the other food still on the counters. He paused before trying to find a bag of some sort to grab a little bit more to bring. He had a feeling after today they wouldn't be welcome in their safe home much longer.

After filling two more plastic bags of food, that Ellis also carried, they started to make their way back to the room. There was loud groans filling the air, making it easy to know the room was still filled with the undead feasting on the fresh corpses. Nick gave a one moment finger to Ellis as he continued to move forward, thankful he'd found a fresh clip of bullets for the gun he had in the bag before they'd left again. He double checked his gun before creeping around the corner. Only five. He took a steady aim and shot each one down. He waited a moment as the last one fell trying to listen for the sound of others. After a solid minute of silence he motioned for Ellis to follow into the room.

It was bloodier then they'd left it of course. Phil was long dead, and in a couple hours he'd be one of the walkers. Nick's plan was to try and bring him back before he did, so that Pa could see the monstrosity that he'd raised this kid to be, but he also didn't wanna do that to the old man. It was going to be hard enough to know that his son was dead, he wasn't sure he'd want to see him undead too. He sighed looking around the room before looking at Ellis. "We need to bring him back now... I don't want Pa to think we killed him." Ellis nodded. "What do we tell him?"

Now that, that was a good question. Tell the truth to the old man? That his son went ape shit, killed their team mate and then they were forced to put him down? Or try and live a lie... The truth would come out when they got Rochelle's body, but until then they could leave Pa to believe. The danger was gone for now, the kid was dead and couldn't do any further harm until he became undead, which at the state of his torn apart body there wouldn't be much of a fight. "We lie." Nick finally said softly. "I'll come back later for Rochelle's corpse. I'll bury her in the dark and Coach will never know." He went over to her slowly pushing hair away from her face. He slowly closed her eyes before standing again. It was a set plan that didn't show the old man the monster his son was, and left the man with a sound mind in this fucked up world. As much as Nick wanted to just show that he was right all along about this fucking kid, he wasn't going to drag the others down with him. Ellis looked at him before nodding slowly. He got the point, the family was small and to lose their only son might break them. "I"m gonna grab Phil now." Nick said looking back at Ellis. "You think you can handle a gun still?" Ellis nodded. "Just no runnin" He grinned.

Nick needed that. He grinned back before leaning down to grab the destroyed body teen off the ground. He noticed the leg he'd shot was gone, at least that was one less thing to worry about, no obvious wounds caused by them. He grabbed the ax and strapped it to Phil's back as best he could, if they were leaving he needed the gun, not swinging things. He put his pistol back into his pocket before grabbing one of the guns off the floor. He looked back at Ellis who grabbed the fallen shot gun. "Ready?" Ellis nodded keeping the bags of food close. "Aight." With that the two set off as stealthy as they could back to the home, preparing for the disaster that this would bring.

End of Chapter 11.

A.N. I tried my hardest to get this out as fast as possible, and too keep it far beyond short as hell. I apologize this isn't the length I had originally intended but it's close to the amount I was wanting, and ending the way I wanted it. I hope you guys don't hate me for my year of silence.

Expect the next chapter soon I promise.
