It had finally come, the long awaited Christmas morning. Mufasa gathered the pride for the main event, starting things off with one of his redundant speeches we all learned to love.
"Welcome everyone, I'm so glad you have all decided to come to this special occasion. The pride's first Chirstmas!"
"How could we miss it," I grumbled, I'm just not a morning person…um, lion.
"Before we start the gift exchange I would like to thank someone very dear to me for bringing us together for a day celebration! His good cheer has always managed to put a smile on everyone's face and brighten my day. I'm sure you'll agree that our family just wouldn't be the same without him. So without further a due- "
"Oh Muffy, putting your brother in the spotlight, eh? You shouldn't have," I grinned, rather surprised by the gesture.
"What?...Well actually I was referring to…um…Simba," he said smiled awkwardly.
"Yes…of course," I sighed. "Simba, Simba, Simba…what isn't about Simba?"
"Which is not to say that you aren't his jolliest uncle," Mufasa quickly added.
"Funny," I rolled my eyes. "I thought I was his only uncle."
"That too," he remarked.
"Dad! Can we give out the gifts now? Please!" Simba wined.
"Good idea son. Let's make a circle everyone!" the king addressed his pride.
"What is it with him and circles? As if the circle of life wasn't enough!" I thought to myself.
"Scar, why don't you go first, you did get gifts didn't you?"
"Here, enjoy," I threw a skull to him; it bounced twice before falling to the ground beside him. Mufasa held it up in his paw, bearing a rather sour look on his face.
"What is this? The leftovers from last night's dinner?" he spoke.
"If you don't like it give it back," I told him, already making my way around the circle handing out the skulls and bones. I couldn't help but smile as I heard the pride's discontent whisper, hopefully this would be the first and last Christmas. I knew that this 'holiday' was a joke, but when did anyone ever listen to me?
"Now the rest of the royal family would like to distribute some gifts I hope you'll all enjoy. Sorry Scar that you weren't in on it. We looked everywhere for you last night, it's as if you disappeared from the pridelands of something, eh?" Mufasa remarked.
"Yes…well isn't that a pity," I tried to hide my discontent. A perfectly good evening wasted gathering skulls with mangy scavengers. I could have been sleeping or plotting murder or even thinking up a new hobby. Ok, so what if I don't have anything better to do? It's still a waste of time.
The oversized fur-ball and his son emerged from their cave carrying the queer things I last saw in the cave that crashed from the sky. How appalling! They didn't even have to look for them, I could have just taken those!
"Here you go uncle Scar!" Simba gave me a shiny glass sphere filled with a white powder of some sort.
"Oh you shouldn't have," I forced a smile. "Really…you shouldn't have."
"It's no problem, glad you like it!" he cheered, moving on to a lioness seated beside me.
After everyone exchanged gifts I was left with a wide assortment of useless knick-knacks. But I had to admit, Muffy's were the most impressive. How could I compare with something that fell from the clouds and was made by creatures none of us have never before laid eyes on?
"So what do we do now? Is Christmas over?" Nala asked.
"Finally, I thought this thing would never end!" I was about to leave when a glittering light in the sky caught my attention. It was a shooting star making its way across the heavens.
"Wow, isn't it such a magical evening. If it weren't for Christmas we wouldn't be out here to see that," said Sarafina.
"It is beautiful isn't it," I sat down beside her, meeting her dazzling sapphire eyes.
"Yes," she replied, leaning against me.
