Six teenagers sat around a small campfire, talking quietly to each other.
" the dai lee made a major move on our territory today" One of the boys commented, his blue eyes narrowing with hatred.
"What should we do?" the girl next to him asked, her eyebrows drawn together over her icy blue stare. "The dai lee are so much stronger than us in numbers. There is no way that we could take them out now!" She hung her head, her shoulder length brown hair falling in front of her delicate face.
"Then we won't do anything for right now. We will wait and for them to make another move, then we attack." The petite girl at the head of the fire said, her pale, milky eyes flickering from one person to the next.
"But that's impossible! Suki JUST pointed out that are numbers are way to low for any tricks like that right now!"
"Be quiet Katara! I am perfectly aware of the number problem, AND I have a solution."
"Oh? And what is that oh high and mighty runaway?"
"We recruit." The way that the runaway said it made it seem like the easiest thing in the world.
"Oh! Of course! Why don't we just go pick up some new recruits from the market place shall we? Orphans and runaway's don't grow on trees TOPH! And finding people who are sympathetic to our cause is even harder to do!" There was a collective gasp and then silence. No one called the runaway by her given name EVER. It was just something you didn't do. Toph stiffened.
"As I said, I am perfectly aware of our problem Katara" she spat out the name as if it were a disease "and I am dealing with it. Now why don't you run along and play with your magic water while the real warriors stay and talk."
"Katara, you'd better go." The first boy murmured.
"Fine. But don't come crying to me when your stupid little plan fails."
"You may leave now Katara," the runaway said in a perfectly polite tone. Only those who had known her for their whole life could hear the menace and the threat behind her polite words.
"Humph."
"Go Now. That's an order"
An awkward silence filled the air as the tall girl turned and left. Finally a boy with raven black hair and a terrible scar across the left side of his face stepped out of the shadows.
"Yes Toph, where are you going to find those new recruits?"
