The howler was only to be expected.
After all, she had been sorted into Slytherin.
And while she hadn't had time to write to her parents, James would have wasted no time in ratting her out.
Albus had just gotten a letter from her Aunt and Uncle,
gushing about how proud they were, and about how Hufflepuff was a great house, and didn't he remember brave Cedric Digory and how HE came from that house?
She couldn't imagine what HER father would say about her being in Slytherin, so naturally she assumed it would be a howler.
So when a letter for her finally DID come, she opened it with shaking fingers.
And there, in her hand lay a……..letter.
A plain ordinary letter.
She could tell her mom had written it from the handwriting.
It said how proud they were of her, and how she would show the world that good people DID come out of Slytherin, and didn't she remember Severus Snape who her own cousin was named after?
Rose was in shock.
They were…happy for her.
"Well why not?" said Mary, after Rose had finished venting to her.
"My father and his father and his father and HIS father all were in Slytherin and they turned out all right. Well…mostly alright."
And Rose figured that mostly all right was good enough for her.
