The snow-covered grounds of Suna were being plowed by some elders, they slowly lifted the shovels, then brought them back down. Over and over again, they did that. They smiled at eachother when they were done; since winter snow was rare in Suna, when it did come it was heavy. I passed them gingerly, my long black hair flowing in the chilled air. I took long strides, hopeing I could see him before I went back home. Sometimes I saw his crimson hair from afar- he wasn't that hard to notice.

But he wasn't there today, by the freshly frozen pond like he always was. Even when he was, I didn't approach him. No, that's too dangerous. I always looked from afar, never getting too close. I often wondered if he knew I was watching him sometimes. Even he wasn't that stupid. Sighing, I walked back to the street, and continued down the block. My house wasn't too far from here, and it was way too cold to stay outside. As soon as the wamth enveloped me in its heat, I smiled in relief.

"Ah," I mumbled as I sat on my futon. "Gaara is never there when it snows..."

Closing my eyes, I remembered the week before, when he noticed me.

His icy blue eyes landed on me, and he squinted. I knew I had been found out, so I came out from behind my hiding place, and I bowed cautiously.

"I'm Miyuki." I mumbled softly, and smiled a bit.

"Hn." that was the only response I ever got from him.

"Y-you're G-Gaara, right?"

"Hn."

I shifted uncomftorably. I moved towards him slowly, with my toes softly padding in the desert sand. I reached out a hand to him, but a mound of sand whacked me away. Afraid, I turned on my heel and ran.

Opening my eyes, I looked around.

That's the way it always was- that sand. It protected him like an unbreakable glass wall; something I wanted but could never have.

Smiling sadly to myslef, I fell into a light slumber, and dreamt of him.
