Because I Miss You
AN: Another Wake Up Sid piece!
Disclaimer: I do not own Wake Up Sid.
Laxmi's glad that Sid's grown up. She was getting tired of pandering to his childish whims. Honestly, he was always such a little kid – she often wondered what would happen to him once they left college.
Well, he hadn't left, had he?
Laxmi gazes at the animated young man beside her and feels a great sadness. Although she's glad that Sid has a new life, she also misses the wild, spontaneous boy he'd been. She has been his friend for as long as either of them could remember – and now, it is like she doesn't even know him anymore.
"Laxmi?" Sid waves a hand in front of her face. The dark-haired girl blinks and offers him a smile.
"Sorry, yaar, just spaced out," she apologizes. "What were you saying?"
Sid doesn't look put out. Sid was rarely ever upset at anyone, and when he was, it was a bratty kind of anger – the type you knew would soon pass. "Laxmi," he nudges her playfully, "I think you've got your head in the clouds! I was saying, Aish is going to let me meet her parents tomorrow. Too cool, na?"
Laxmi smiles again, but it's far more forced. "Yeah, so cool," she agrees half-heartedly. "After so long, huh?"
Sid misses the tinge of bitterness in her voice and continues to chatter. Laxmi goes back to looking at him from the corner of her eye.
It's ridiculous that she should feel so upset, she tells herself. Sid is her friend. She should be happy for him.
But then why does it hurt?
Laxmi has known Sid forever. They grew up together, overcame the obstacles of school and peer pressure and marks together. They were inseparable.
Doesn't the boy always settle down with his best friend at the end of the story? Isn't that how it's supposed to go?
Laxmi feels tears prick her eyes. She's not sure when she fell in love with Sid. It might have been only a few weeks ago, when she saw just how broken he was after failing, or it might have been years ago. She can't tell.
But he has Aisha.
Laxmi secretly wipes away a tear when Sid isn't looking.
Someday, she'll find him again.
AN: I always figured Laxmi had a thing for Sid. I felt kind of sorry for her.
