Light sighed contently as he admired the sight.

Beautiful. Not exactly the most manly of ways to describe something, but it was true. The carnival was beautiful at night. The rides where lit up and the music seemed to play softer than before. It gave off an almost..romantic feel.

He jumped when someone tapped him on the shoulder. When he turned around he realized it was a certain black haired insomniac.

"Mm?" L held out one of three bags of cotton candy he had, offering it. Light noticed he also had 2 funnel cakes and a large drink.

"Uh, no thanks.. But what took you so long?! I've been sitting here forever!"

"Long line." He said simply and glanced around. "Where's the other three?"

"They went ahead to the Fun House."

"I see. Well where do you want to go now?"

"We're not gonna wait for them to get back?"

"Mello has a cell phone and we can get a hold of them whenever we want, or vise-virsa. If they went off without us, then maybe they wanted to be alone. Also," L began walking and gestured for Light to follow, "it leaves just you and me to ride whatever you want. Doesn't that sound fun?"

"...Yeah." Light smiled to himself. Just him a Ryuuzaki? That does sound fun.

"So where is it you'd like to go?" His thoughts where interrupted as the detective stopped and turned to him.

"Uh.." He glanced around. "How about that?"

L inwardly shuddered at the sight of the ride.

The Ferris wheel. Or 'The huge, rusty, unstable circular thing of death', as L thought of it.

"I think that one would be better." He pointed randomly.

"You want to go on the Time Warp?"

"...Yes." No. He didn't. But he really didn't want to go on that thing.

"But I love the Ferris Wheel! It's the best!" Light gave him the puppy dog face. But such a thing would not affect him. He was L! He couldn't be so easily manipulated! Even if it was pretty freaking cute...and irresistible...damn it!

"Then we should save the best for last." Maybe he'll forget about it later. (Optimism never hurt anyone, right?)

Light sighed. "Yeah, okay."

They pushed through all the people and over to the 'Time Warp.'

It was a roller coaster rip off, and like most other rides, just went in a huge circle. It would go slow at first, then speed up drastically. And after a few minutes it would stop and start going backwards.

L finished off his snacks, and once they could finally get on, Light walked around trying to find the perfect seats.

"I like this one. It's less junkie looking then the others. Besides, it's black and white. Like a panda." He smiled widely and got into the car of the ride after L, who frowned when realizing he would have to sit normly.

They pulled the metal bar down to rest in their laps and waited.

A sudden out burst of loud music startled the two and they jumped as the ride started. The platform was making creaking noises and Light flinched a little.

The ride sped up and the brunette found himself sliding towards L involuntarily. He grabbed onto the bar but the force was too strong and he was pushed against the detective's side.

Ryuuzaki grunted slightly and moved his arm out from between them and placed it to lay across the back of Light's shoulders, so it wouldn't be crushed. Light blushed and he was forced even closer to him.

It then slowed to a stop, rapidly switching directions.

This was making Light nauseous and he could feel a headache coming on.

"Ugh..." He groaned and leaned his head to lay on L's shoulder, placing his hand on his forehead.

"Are you okay?"

Light shook his head.

The sweat-toothed insomniac smiled at him sympathetically. He then wondered what kind of looks they must have been getting from the people sitting behind them or anyone else that could see them..

He shrugged it off and hugged Light tighter.

It really didn't matter.

Once it was finally over they staggered off.

"I don't wanna go on any more roundy rides, Ryuu-cub." They were sitting on a nearby bench and the whimpers were heard to hear since he had his face in his hands.

"Then we won't." L promised. His cell phone then began to ring and he dug it out of his pocket.

"Yes?"

"Hey, where are you two?" Mello's voice was heard on the other end.

"We're sitting on a bench, Light is not feeling well." He then placed a hand on said person's back, which earned him a small smile.

"Well what rides are you near? We'll come find you."

"Could you just meet us by the east side Ferris Wheel?"

"Okay, Matt wanted to go on that anyway. See you there."

L flipped the phone shut.

"We're going to the Ferris Wheel now?" The light-headed brunette perked up at the thought. It was his favorite ride, after all.

"Yes, I think it will make you feel better." L had a feeling he was going to regret this, but it would make Light happy. He sighed inwardly.

"Yay!" Jumping up, he grabbed the detective's wrist and made his way through the crowd.

xXx

"There you are!" Mello jogged up to them, the other two close behind.

"Have you enjoyed yourselves so far?" Ryuuzaki asked, cocking his head.

"Yeah, it's been pretty cool."

Matt just nodded.

Near, on the other hand, wasn't paying attention to anything being said. His eyes where glued to the huge ride in front of them. Ever noticed how him and L are alike? Yeah, well this is another example of that; he didn't like Ferris Wheels. At all. And he had no intention of going on this one.

"I'd like to go on the slide." He said simply. It was huge, yellow, steep, and it was set up for 5 people to slide down at once. How convenient.

The other four looked over. Matt nodded again. "Sounds good to me. We can go on the Ferris Wheel afterwards."

They all agreed, though Light was reluctant, and Near led the way.

The stairs to the top of the slide was very narrow and unstable, and frankly dangerous, the albino decided.

They each were given a brown sack to slide down on, which they found themselves tripping over the whole way up.

Once at the top, they sat on the slides with their feet tucked into the sacks. It was L on the left, then Light, Near in the middle, Matt, and Mello on the other end.

"I'll race ya." Matt offered, looking down the row at everyone.

"Bring it on." Mello expected the redheads challenge, leaning forward.

"Don't worry, I'll wait for you two at the bottom." The smallest hint of amusement was heard in Near's voice, as he also leaned forward. The blond raised an eyebrow.

"Hear that Ryuuzaki? They actually think they can beat us." Light shook his head, sympathetically.

"Then it seems we'll have to show them just how naive they are." L chuckled.

"Ya' ready?" A loud voice boomed behind them. Near was surprised to see that it belonged to a woman.

They nodded.

"Alright, you can go."

At the sound of 'go' they pushed off with their hands, and the race began.

The slide itself didn't last long, but it was close with L coming in first, then Light, Near, Matt, and then Mello in last.

L turned to the four, smiling triumphantly.

"I believe the term is 'epic fail.'"

xXx

"Alright, I don't know about you guys, but I'm already getting tired." Mello said after pouting for a minute. (He hated losing!) They were just walking around now.

"Yeah I agree. One more ride, then we can leave." Matt gestured for them to follow, and he walked toward their last destination of the night.

L and Near gulped.

A/N: I don't know, L and Near just seemed like the type to dislike Ferris Wheels. -Shrugs- I'll update soon.
