Wow, I'm so sorry. I don't know if anyone's even following this anymore. I lost my Internet and got it back almost a month ago, but completely forgot I had wrote this... eh...
Sorry if this chapter seems rushed. I wanted to finish and post it asap in case my Internet gets shut off again.
Disclaimer: I don't own Death Note or any of the characters.
Flipping his phone shut, L turned to the group.
"No answer."
"But Watari always answers." Light frowned as he crossed his arms. The wind was picking up now. "Well what are we going to do? I really don't want to walk in the rain."
"I don't think we have a choice."
Light sighed and looked to the bench where the former Wammy students sat. They were huddled together with the smaller one in the middle, twirling a now soaked piece of hair.
"We need to go soon then," Mello suggested. He stood up and crouched in front of Near, who immediately resumed his place on the blonde's back. Matt got up as well, wiping the raindrops off his goggles.
L then started walking in the direction of his house, the others close behind. He really wasn't thrilled about being out in a storm either, but they couldn't just stay there. It was getting closer.
As if to prove this, the sound of thunder boomed above them. Now louder then before.
"Ryuu-cub?"
"Yes?"
"I'm cold."
"As am I."
The brunette inched closer, wrapping his arms around the older man's bicep.
"What are you doing?"
"You said you were cold," Light smiled at the detective. L knew he couldn't argue with that.
They walked for about 5 minutes, now out of the parkway and on the sidewalk of a main street, when they came to a road block. A fire truck wasn't letting anyone pass due to a wreck. The five of them crossed the street and continued their walk. Mini stores and shops lined the way.
Mello looked over his shoulder, "How's your ankle?"
"It's fine. You don't have to carry me anymore."
"Yes I do. It's not up for discussion."
The albino nodded, smiling slightly, then quickly frowned when he looked behind him.
"...Mello?"
"What?"
"Where's Matt?"
That made the blond stop in his tracks. He turned, feeling his heart race when the gamer was no where in sight. He instantly started back in the direction they came. "Matt?"
"There." Near pointed to a figure peering in a store window. Before they could get to the redhead, he frantically opened the door and darted inside.
"What the hell, Matt," Mello sighed angrily under his breath. But when he got close enough to read the sign, he knew exactly why he ditched them.
Games Galore
---
Light watched as the three went into the store and sighed.
"I don't want to wait around all day! The rain's pouring now, and I don't want to catch a cold," His complaint was cut off when he was suddenly dragged towards a shop right ahead of him.
It was more decorated than the others, with the outside painted pink with a few white polka dots. It was simply named The Candy Store. The letters striped red and white like a candy cane.
"No. Nonono! Ryuu-cub, you already have enough sweets at home!"
"You can never have enough sweets, Light," L pushed the door open and gaped at the shelves full of candy. The inside was bigger and smelled better than he'd thought. "We won't stay long, okay?
"Yeah right."
---
"Matt!"
The gamer flinched. That was Mello's pissed-off voice.
"The next time you run off without warning, I swear to God.." Mello trailed off as Matt held up a small case and gave a puppy dog look that the blond was sure he could never deny.
"This game's on sale, Mel. And I could pay you back as soon as we get home, okay? Pleeaasseee??"
"Matt..."
"C'mon. I always go out and get you chocolate when you want me to. And I always, well almost always, go outside to smoke 'cause I know you don't like it, and-"
"Okay, okay! Just shut up and get it so we can go," Mello turned so that the redhead could get the money. "It's in my right pocket."
Matt got behind the blond so that he could reach his right hand in. "God, your pants are tight. Must you wear leather?" He ignored Mello's mumbled 'shut up' and rummaged around to find the money, but not before he felt his hand run into something it shouldn't have...
"A little excited, are we?" Matt said with a small chuckle. Mello smacked his hand away and got the money himself, handing it to the gamer and quikly walking out of the store. His face burning red.
Outside, Near layed his head on the blonde's shoulder.
"Mello-"
"Don't. Say. A word."
---
"Ryuuuuu," Light whined," can we go now?"
L ignored him, picking through the candies with a thumb to his lips. There was just so many to choose from!
The clerk, used to only having children customers, couldn't help but look at the two guys oddly. One of them, the one he suspected to play the girl in their relationship, was throwing a hissy fit while the other, much older and strange looking, was racing up and down every isle like candy was going out of style.
Light looked out the window and called to the detective, who was spinning a rotating shelf with lolipops in it. "Mello and the others are comming back, we should go."
L let the shelf spin to a stop, then walked up to the window. "Alright, Light. We can leave."
"You're not getting anything?"
"Sir, your items." The clerk held three big bags stuffed with candy. L walked over, took the bags, thanked him, then slouched back to Light.
"You really had to ask?"
---
Once the group was reunited, they walked the rest of the way back in silence. Kind of...
"It's the pants! They're just too tight!"
"Mello, you really shouldn't blame your clothing. I just didn't know video games had such an affect on you." Matt's laughter was cut short with a jab to the gut, thanks to the blonde's elbow.
"Perhaps a dripping wet Matt got to the best of Mello?"
"I will drop you right now, Near!!"
"Now, now," Matt chuckled, "There's nothing to be embarrassed about."
"I'm not embarrassed! These pants-!"
"Okay, Mel. It was the pants. I believe you..."
Matt burst out laughing before he could help it and Near did what he could to keep from giggling. Mello pouted the rest of the way back, silently vowing revenge.
This chapter turned out a lot different than I thought it would. :(
The next one should be better though, so bare with me.
