Chapter 2. An S-Rank mission Part 2
Naruto's stomach growled desperately. He looked at his black watch and stopped moving.
"What's wrong, dobe?" Sasuke asked looking back at him.
"Teme! It's 13:30 and I haven't had lunch yet!"
"Huh?" Sakura was surprised but couldn't help but smile at Naruto's desperate face. "How time flies, hehe."
"Sakura-chan…" Naruto seemed in pain "Let's just have lunch."
"F-fine…" Hinata giggled and blushed slightly. She wasn't used to go with former team 7 on missions, but she did find it hilarious. Naruto has a sense of humor bigger and better than anyone else does, it was funny seeing Sakura getting angry at him every now and then and it wouldn't be the same without Sasuke and his *cough* 'little' insults. Sakura opened one of her bags, the mid-sized one, and took out four small boxes.
"Here!" She said throwing one box to each of her teammates. Naruto opened his slowly… It wasn't ramen to his disappointment. Just plain old rice with vegetables…
"Sakura-chan isn't there any ramen?" He asked the pink-haired with his eyes closed in disgust.
"Yeah, there is. But we are NOT going to have ramen today. You had it for breakfast, remember?"
"That never stopped me before"
"Whatever, dobe." Sasuke rolled his eyes "Let's just eat. Weren't you the hungry one here?"
"Shaddup, Sasuke-teme!" Naruto looked disgusted at his food. "Do I really have to eat this?"
"Well…" Sakura said with a mocking tone in her voice "You don't need to… if you prefer to…"
"YES! To WHAT?!"
"Hehe!" She gave him a mean look "STARVE!!!" Sakura's teeth sparkled. Naruto gasped and stared at his food. He then started eating it as fast as he could, at the end, without leaving one grain of rice in the box. Hinata giggled "Stop making a show." Sasuke mumbled acting cool, as always. "We're on a mission, remember?"
"Whatever, moron. Let's just move on" Naruto said standing up
Back at Tsunade's office…
Shizune was double-checking the mission document and sighed. "Tsunade-sama, I don't think this was a good idea."
"*Sigh*, listen to me!" The Hokage stood up and jabbed her desk."We already went over this a million times, Shizune. Naruto is strong, stronger than Akatsuki so don't worry." She sat down on the chair again, legs crossed, and turned her back on her assistant, looking out the window. "He may seem like an idiotic kid sometimes, but he is the strongest ninja I ever met… I believe in him…" She turned back at a wide-eyed Shizune "…and YOU should too."
"H-hai, Tsunade-sama. I'm sorry." She apologized bowing slightly.
"Okay… now I want you to fetch me the following ninja." The Godaime ripped a piece of paper out of her notebook and started writing. Shizune read the names as her master gave her the paper. Them? She thought.
"Right away, Lady Tsunade. " Then Shizune left.
In the meantime…
Hinata looked up at the sky. It was orange and the sun wasn't in sight. The ink-blue-haired girl kept searching further down for it, when she finally found it. Only half sun was visible.
"H-h-hey, guys." Hinata stated stuttering as always.
"Huh? What is it Hinata-chan?" Naruto asked looking right into her lavender, pearl eyes making her blush a shade of pink. Chan?Sakura thought. Never heard him call her that before.Sasuke only grinned.
"L-look" she said pointing at the sun "The s-sun is s-s-setting."
"Yeah, I think it's time we called it a day." Sasuke commented "Sakura the super-beauty bag you brought with you, please." Sakura mumbled something inaudible to human ears, with a grumpy look on her face. She obeyed, though. The squad continued walking, slower than before, searching for a spot to camp for the night.
Naruto suggested five different areas, only to each one be denied by Sakura. One was too small, the other had too many insects in sight for her taste and the others were in the middle of the forest with the tress covering the bright, sparkling stars. She HAD to see the stars before going to sleep. They always reminded her of her aunt, who had died 17 years ago protecting the village from Kyuubi. She didn't blame Naruto unlike the rest of the villagers, though. Sakura saw him as an older-brother, who has always been there to protect her, not to ruin her life.I should try to be nicer to him.She thought.
"How do you like this, Sakura?" Naruto asked impatiently standing in the middle of a small field. It wasn't much bigger than the 'small' one. Sakura smiled warmly and sat on top of the somewhat humid grass.
"Perfect."
At the Hokage's tower four jonin gathered in Tsunade's office. They were none other than Hyuuga Neji, Rock Lee, the future Hyuuga Tenten and the rather annoying Maito Gai.
"RATHER ANNOYING, Lisa-chan?" Lee yelled at me. His eyes were replaced by two flames while he said: "How can it be? Gai-sensei is so good and is full of the power of youth!" Uhmmm. Yeah whatever Lee, just let me continue the damn story. They were standing in front of the Godaime's desk waiting for her to speak.
"As you should know Uzumaki Naruto, Hyuuga Hinata, Uchiha Sasuke and Haruno Sakura are on a mission searching for information about Akatsuki." She began.
"But, Hokage-sama! Was it really a good idea to send Naruto and Sasuke on a mission like that?" Gai asked catching Lee's and Tenten's attention. Neji didn't move. He already knew about the nine-tails since the day after fighting Naruto in the chunin-exams. The Hyuuga noticed red chakra in him and since he is a genius, it wasn't hard to figure out the truth. "I mean, Sasuke was once part of Akatsuki and we all know that they're after Naruto's powers."
"We do?" Tenten looked confused. Silence…
"Tenten, I think it's best for Naruto to explain that. " Neji said. "It's something that he must decide. Hokage-sama, what is our mission?"
"We'll receive a full report tomorrow from the squad. I already send them one of our message birds. As soon as they find Akatsuki they'll call the bird with a whistle (a/n: Yeah, weird, I know, but gosh, I'm desperate here!) I gave Sakura and inform us of the current situation and, if needed, you'll go support them as back-up. By then I will call you and you will HAVE to leave immediately, so I suggest you already start packing everything. You are dismissed for now." Tsunade explained turning around staring at the Main Gate. Team Gai bowed and left.
"UFF! All done." Naruto said relieved looking down at the big, purple tent and then turned to the girls who were about six steps away from it. "How's dinner going, Hinata-chan, Sakura-chan?" The girls were sitting next to a bonfire.
"I-it's done. A-are you done with t-the tent, Naruto-kun?" Hinata asked not being brave enough to look Naruto in the eyes.
"We just finished" Sasuke answered.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's eat." Sakura stated sitting between Sasuke and Hinata on a log. Each of the four picked a plate of Curry Rice. Boy, am I glad Bushy Brows isn't here…Naruto thought Reminds me of that funeral mission.(Watch Naruto episode 152-157).
Back at the Leaf:
"AH-AH-AHCHOOO"
"Are you okay, Lee?" Tenten asked.
"Yes… I hope I'm not catching a cold."
Suddenly a bird sat down next to Naruto.
"Hey, look!" He said "Obaa-chan's bird arrived."
"Let me write the report." Sasuke took a paper and pen out of his bag and started writing. When he finished and the bird went flying back to the village, Naruto, Hinata and Sakura were done eating. "Well thanks a lot guys."
"No problem Sasuke-teme." Naruto answered. Sasuke 'humphed'. The blond sat down on the grass using the log as a pillow. He looked up at the stars. Sakura and Hinata joined him in. Hinata had her knees at eye level and held them in an embrace, her pale face lighten by the moon. Sakura sat down leaning on the log. Naruto turned his head to the right and saw the two girls. Hinata was sitting next to him looking up at the sky. Uh-oh… He already had felt this one time. It was like butterflies were flying around inside of him. Eh, must be the Kyuubi. He thought turning back at the sky. OH GOD, why did Kishimoto have to make Naruto so CLUELESS???
"Did you say something, Liza-chan?" Naruto asked. UHMMM no, no. Nothing at all *sweatdrops*.
"Naruto." Sakura was also looking up "What do you see when you look at the stars?" Naruto paid closer attention to the sparkling little spots above and saw… a tomato? A football? No, it was a face. Who is that?He looked at Sasuke it couldn't be him, the figure was obviously a girl. Sakura… nah, it had long hair. Then he stared at Hinata, looked up at the figure and then his attention was back on the girl. It was Hinata. Weird, why did he see her?
"Well…" Sakura stared at him expecting an answer Oh, no! He thought. What should I answer? Think Naruto, think!"People say that when we look very close we see all the figures of astrology and stuff, but they also say we can see our soul-mates." She continued… Naruto froze.
"Sakura, can you please come with me?"
"Sure…" He couldn't have me… because I had Sasuke… I think I know who he has.She thought giggling. Both went into the deep forest.
Did he see Sakura?Hinata thought saddening.
"Don't worry, Hinata." Sasuke reassured still looking at Sakura's face in the dark sky, smiling. "He didn't see Sakura. He saw someone else and is now probably asking for advice."
"How did you know what I was…"
"Everyone in our age-group knows about your feelings for Naruto, that's how. I am sure he didn't see Sakura."
"W-why are you s-so sure, S-sasuke-kun?"
"Because I saw her. That means Sakura also saw me. The person Naruto saw, sees Naruto too. You get how it works?"
"Y-yes." Hinata sighed in relief.
"Who do you see?" Hinata looked closer at the sky.
"Naruto-kun…" she said smiling softly. Sasuke didn't seem surprised at all.
"You two are soul-mates." Sasuke grinned his rare, but unique grin.
Meanwhile…
Naruto was walking back and forth in the middle of the forest. Sakura sat on top of a boulder arms crossed.
"So Naruto, are you going to tell me who you saw or keep acting like a hyperactive duck?!"
"Well… I… stars… see."
"Have you dragged me here for nothing?" He stopped, looking blankly at a tree.
"I SAW HINATA!" He yelled at once, not loud enough for his other two teammates to hear.
"I thought so…" She replied looking up.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Naruto, Hinata has loved you since our Academy years and Sasuke and I noticed your little crush on her recently. Not that it has anything to do with it but…"
"Y-you noticed?" He was starting to turn a shade of light-pink.
"Please! It's so obvious. She saw your face in the stars too. She loves you Naruto and your cluelessness (a/n: for once, Sakura, I agree with you. Let's hope it's the last time.) keeps both of you apart. I think you should tell her how you feel. Besides… you two would make a cute couple, together (a/n: twice. Damn!)." She smiled. Naruto just stood there staring at Hinata. She was talking to Sasuke.
"Well let's join them. And you better tell her how you feel or you are DEAD."
"Ok, whatever, but before returning to them… you saw Sasuke, didn't you?" Naruto asked giving her a mocking smile.
"And what if I did?"
"Oh, come on Sakura-chan!" He poked her. "Just say it." Naruto made a lovey-dovey face "I LOVE you, Sasuke!"
"Naruto, you BAKA!" and then, the usual Naruto cliché, Sakura punched his face making him fly back. She walked towards him and picked him up by the collar. Hinata and Sasuke turned around to see them. Hinata didn't worry too much about it this time, while Sasuke just laid back, relaxed and enjoyed the scene.
"My favorite part is when Sakura, after punching Naruto in the same spot as always, picks him up from the floor and shakes him back and forth." Sasuke commented. The Hyuuga giggled. "Sakura, stop!" She let Naruto fall to the ground and looked at Sasuke who had been obviously entertained.
"Fine." She went over to them and sat next to Sasuke. "And Naruto, if you don't say it, I'll do!"
"Whatever, you pink-haired whore." Naruto said mumbling the last part.
"COME AGAIN?!" He sweat dropped and gulped. "Ahm… I was just … uh… commenting that you…are very… uh… STRONG! Yeah, that's it. You are very strong". She glanced at him and decided to ignore him for once. Naruto, calming down, walked over to them.
"Ok, being serious now."Naruto started "Hinata, you and I, right now, will track Akatsuki and when we come back, either we have to come up with a new plan, or, if we're lucky, we just continue with our mission.
"Hai" The three others agreed in unison.
"Well, let's go Hinata." They stood up and started walking toward the forest.
"I really wish Naruto would confess to her" Sakura commented. (A/n: look who's talking x.x!)
"Yeah… but it would be amazing if the dobe actually got a girlfriend."
"You don't know about his fan club, do you?" Sasuke became confused. He thought for a moment and then looked back at Sakura.
"Not really…"
"Hehe! While you were gone Naruto got pretty strong and he did save the village from Akatsuki, as you know. Since then a group of girls from Konoha made a Naruto-fan club. And the elders respect him now, too" She giggled and all of a sudden burst out laughing. "I do remember this time when he and I were walking towards the Hokage's Tower, a bunch of girls appeared and tried to kidnap him."
"Haha, I wish I was there to see that. But I guess that's my fault."
"Don't worry about it." Sakura comforted him placing her hand on his lap and smiled warmly.
Meanwhile…
Hinata was sitting on the ground waiting for Naruto, who was focusing his chakra to his nose, to report the current status. He sat still next to her. It took about 5 minutes, until his muscles relaxed and he turned to Hinata and face her. He was smiling and the girl knew exactly what that meant.
"Safe." He started "They haven't moved. Everything is going as planned."
"Do you know if I can see them with my Byakugan yet?"
"I'm pretty sure not. Even if you climbed the highest tree in the forest, I still don't believe you could see them. The objective is still four days of endless walking away. But don't let that be a problem."
"O-ok. Let's just return to Sakura and Sasuke." Hinata said trying to stand up. Naruto stretched his arm and offered the Hyuuga a helping hand. She gladly took it. Maybe he pushed her to her feet with a little too much strength, because the blonde ended up falling on his back and Hinata fell down on top of him (Cliché, I know). She blushed heavily. Oh no! What now? She thought, and stood up as fast as she could.
"Oh, I-I'm sorry Naruto-kun." She said embarrassed, shaking the dust off of her clothes and helping Naruto up, this time she pulled him up gently.
Naruto started laughing.
"I'm sorry, but this was funny!" He said, not willing to stop laughing. Hinata also joined him. After two minutes they stopped and looked each other in the eyes. "Let's head back" The blond suggested, only receiving a nod of concur from the Hyuuga heiress.
Back at the bonfire they sat down next to Sakura and Sasuke. Of course the first thing Naruto noticed was the girl's hand on the raven-haired's lap. He grinned and, noticing that, Sakura immediately went back to her normal position. After the Hyuuga told the rest of the team about Akatsuki's location they just threw the mission to their sides for a while and started chatting about their lives, back in the Konoha.
Sakura looked at her watch and gasped.
"Oh god! It's already 00:00 and we still have to put our sleeping bags inside the tent and all that stuff."
"Don't worry about that." Sasuke said with an emotionless mask on his face. "Naruto and I were smart enough to take care of that."
"Oh…" IF THEY TOUCHED MY BRAS THEY HAVE A DATE WITH MY KNUCKLES!"In that case, let's go to sleep." They entered the purple tent.
Flashback
"Hey, Sasuke!" The boys were inside the tent while Sakura and Hinata prepared dinner. They couldn't decide how to organize their stuff. "Who sleeps where?"
"Well…"
"Hmmm… you HAVE to be next to Sakura."
"Ok." To Naruto's surprise he didn't complain. What was he planning? "Same with you and Hinata" he turned his face into a smile. Ah.
"Fine… this is the order: You, Sakura, then me and finally Hinata."
"Seems fair."
"I just hope, during her sleep, Sakura doesn't see me as a punching bag. It wouldn't be the first time." The blond sighed and gave the laughing Sasuke a threatening face. They put the sleeping bags in the right places and left the tent.
End of Flashback
Each of them sat on top of their sleeping bags, asking themselves mentally what now. It was silent for a while.
"Uhm… Naruto?" Sasuke broke the silence. "I think we should exit the tent, so the girls could get dressed."
"Uhm… w-well, I think your right." Naruto answered. "We might as well get into our pajamas outside." So they went out taking their sleeping-clothes with them.
"Hey, Hinata" Sakura whispered. "I want you to wear a pajama I bought for you."
"A-are you sure Sakura?"
"Yeah, don't worry. I've got it all planned."
10 minutes later…
"Sakura-chan, Hinata-chan! COME ON! We are freezing here." Naruto said trembling and hugging himself (a/n: that sounded weird but whatever).
"F-f-f-f-f-f-for once I ag-g-g-g-ree with him."
"W-we still have to clean up our dinner stuff." Hinata's voice informed "We're coming out."
"For heaven's sake, we're wearing summer pajamas." Naruto yelled, making the forest eco the word 'pajamas' until only 'jamas' was audible and automatically receiving a punch from Sasuke.
"Be quiet, dobe!"
"Whatever, Sasuke te--…" He was interrupted when he saw Hinata and Sakura standing in front of them. Hinata was wearing a nightdress that ended three inches above her knees. It was purple and had a little sleeping doll painted on chest level and underneath it was written in French Script: "Power of dreams". Sakura's was the same only pink. Naruto and Sasuke blushed. The two of them were also wearing equal pajamas: Long black pants and a blue, unbuttoned t-shirt. "Told ya." Sakura whispered in Hinata's ear.
"I-is something wrong N-naruto-kun?" Hinata asked blushing slightly. "Uhm… uhh… no, Hinata-chan. Let's just clean up." They headed toward the big log. The boys not taking their eyes of them. The pervs… Sakura thought.
She ended up doing almost everything. Naruto, after cleaning up one chopstick asked to talk to Hinata PRIVATLEY and since Sasuke was concentrating on Sakura's clothes he didn't help much himself.
Naruto and Hinata were sitting on top of a small hill looking up at the sparkling stars.
"Hinata…" Naruto caught the girl's attention. She turned her head around to face his blue eyes that were staring at her. "What do the stars remind you of?"
"Uhm… well they remind me of those who are dear to me. My friends and family. What about you?"
"They remind me mainly of the person I love most. A girl to be more precise."
"What else?"
"They remind me of someone else. Hinata, what do you think about the 4th Hokage?"I have to tell her about Kyuubi. She's the only one from my team who doesn't know and if I have to access to the fox-chakra in battle she would probably faint. Hinata has to know, even if she'll end up hating me. "Well he was a hero to Konoha after killing Kyuubi and…"
"Hinata." Naruto interrupted. "He didn't kill Kyuubi. He couldn't, so he had to seal it away… inside a human vessel."
"You don't mean--".
"Yes. He sealed the Kyuubi inside of me…" Hinata stared at him in shock
"That means… that's why…" But the words never came out
He knew what would happen next. His crush would be afraid of even talk to him. Would he take the suffering? There, she hates me.He thought only noticing the ink-blue haired girl hugging him tightly and sobbing. "You could have told me before. I would be there for you and support you. Now I understand everything, that's why the older villagers hate you, isn't it?" Hinata had watched the blond since he was very small. She used to see him crying on the streets, all alone. Hiashi had told her that he was disliked by everyone. That only confused the Hyuuga heiress even more. She liked him. He used to cry on the street and so did she.
"W-wha?" The blond was surprised "You aren't afraid of me?" (CLICHÉ ALERT!)
"NO! Good heavens, no! I love you too much. It doesn't matter to me. You keep being Naruto and no one can change that. Not even Kyuubi."
"Hinata…" he whispered tightening the hug. "Thank you." After a few minutes they pulled apart.
"Who else knows about this?" Hinata asked him gently, both her hands on his shoulders and his own on her hips.
"All the older villagers, Neji, Sakura, Sasuke and Shikamaru. Of course you know now, too."
"I see. N-naruto-kun, I've been meaning to tell you something for a while now, too. It may not be the right time and it's n-nothing special compared to what you told me just now, but it's the main reason I could NEVER hate you. It's that… uhm… well."
"Don't worry, Hinata-chan. I know what you want to tell me." He interrupted, slowly leaned forward and giving her a soft, tender kiss on the lips. At first Hinata was nervous about what Naruto was doing but then joined him and deepened the kiss. They broke apart and looked each other in the eyes, he into her lavender, pearl Byakugan and she into the bluest blue she had ever seen.
"We'll tell our friends that the cutest girl in Konoha is now my girlfriend. What do you have to say about that?" Is this a dream? Kami-sama, please don't make me wake up. Well might as well enjoy it while I can. She thought. Hinata pressed her lips against his one more time.
"I love you Naruto-kun" Hinata said. There I said it.
"I love you too, HINA-chan" That would be her Nickname. His lips met hers, deeply under the moon-lit sky one more time making her blush. I will need patience, love and LOTS AND LOTS of ramen to make her get rid of her shyness. He thought.
When they finally broke apart, they looked at each other and suddenly they gasped with a worried look on their faces.
"SASUKE AND SAKURA!" They both said in unison. Shit!
They ran back to the camping place to meet a rather annoyed Sakura and a bored Sasuke waiting for them sitting on the big log.
"WHAT THE FUCK TOOK YOU SO LONG. We've got to go to bed" Sakura yelled.
"Whatever." Sasuke said. "Let's just go to sleep." The team entered the tent and all of them went to their respective sleeping bags
"Goodnight everyone" Naruto whispered with a beaten voice.
"Goodnight." The rest answered. It was too soon for Hinata to get close to Naruto in that way so she left a 2-inch space between their sleeping-bags and fell asleep.

YOSH! That was the second chapter.
Hinata: P-please R&R.
Naruto: Or you'll make Hina-chan cry. I would hate you for that.
