Chapter 3. Surprise Attack; the reunion
It was a sunny morning in Konoha, Tsunade had spent the whole night signing documents and deciding who goes on what mission. She had already received Sasuke's report. Luckily everything was going as planned, one less thing for the Hokage to fret about.
In a cozy apartment in the eastern part of the village a certain Hyuuga branch-family member had just woken up.
"Neji! Breakfast." He heard.
"Coming, Tenten." He shouted back. Neji opened his closet looking for his usual ninja clothes. This one was dirty, that one was torn and those other two were also dirty…Uh-oh... "Uhh… Tenten?"
"What is it Neji?"
"I have no clean clothes!" He yelled desperately and heard a sigh coming from the kitchen.
"Check the laundry." So he did, he went to the laundry-room searching, still in his white, red-hearted boxers, for his clothes.
"Found them!" He yelled relieved holding the clothes high. Better put those other outfits in the washing machine.He thought. He went back to his room took his filthy clothes with him, put them on the To-Wash pile and joined Tenten in the kitchen. Whatever it was that she was cooking, it smelled awfully good. Neji embraced Tenten, leaving her arms free to cook.
"I received a message from Lady Hokage. Naruto's team will cross the border today, probably. They still don't need our assistance. " Tenten stopped, turned around and kissed Neji.
"That means we have more ti—"she was interrupted by Lee and Gai who came barging in.
"Do you see that, Lee?" Gai asked his pupil pointing at the couple in his nice-guy pose, who stared at the 'green beasts' with an emotionless face. "That is the true power of youth. Can't you feel the love in the air?" Lee also made a nice-guy pose.
"Hai, Gai-sensei!" Lee sobbed and started crying waterfalls.
"Lee!"
"Gai-sensei!"
"Lee!"
"Gai-senseeeeei!" They hugged each other, the back round was a Hawaiian beach and a wave hitting against a rock was audible.
"OUT!" Neji yelled making both of them return to reality! "Come on, come on. Scatter!"
"But Neji!" Lee started
"No buts! Get out!" Tenten giggled at the scene. "SCRAM." When the two were outside and the door safely locked she sighed in relieve.
"Gosh, they almost got to the part of the Konoha 'azure' beasts! That was a close one."
"Yeah…"
Meanwhile…
Sakura slowly opened her green eyes and met a shade of purple. Where am I? She looked at her right and saw her favorite raven-haired boy. Oh, right!She giggled, sat up stretching her arms and legs, only to accidently wake Sasuke up. He got up like a lightning.
"Huh?" he looked around and met Sakura's eyes. "Oh, right. Hehe, good morning Sakura." He rubbed the back of his head smiling. "Are Naruto and Hinata awake?"
"Good question." She turned around and saw they were sleeping peacefully. Naruto was hugging Hinata, while she was in a normal sleeping position. "Naruto must have had a dream about Ramen and thought Hinata was the bowl." She giggled. They moaned at the same, though only Naruto woke up. Sakura was already imagining the scene. The blond would freak out, waking Hinata up and apologizing like hell. Naruto looked down at the girl, pulled apart from the embrace and gave a peaceful:
"Good morning." He stretched his arms and legs. Hinata moaned. She sat up rubbing her pearl-colored, Byakugan eyes and stretched her arms yawning silently.
"Hey." Sasuke and Sakura just stared at them. That was weird.
Sasuke got up unzipped the tent and yelled from the outside:
"Hurry and get dressed. I'm guessing this will be a loooong day.
About twenty minutes later, the four of them had already packed up and were ready to leave. Sasuke took one last look at the map and pointed to the North.
"That way." He ordered and soon, the team was on its way to the Land of Lightning.
About 5 minutes had passed since Naruto and his team left the camping place. For once, the sun wasn't shining. It was covered by thick, black clouds.
"Things are about to get nasty" Sakura commented looking up.
"Lemme guess." Naruto said, grinning. "The rain will ruin your make-up."
"Naruto no BAKA!" The pink-haired girl hit her teammate's head hard. Sasuke sighed.Here we go again. Suddenly, three familiar figures appeared in front of him, smoke covering their bodies.
"Hey, Sasuke!" A male voice said.
"HONEYBUNNY!" A girl yelled.
"Oh, shut your yappin', Karin. He deserted us." Another male voice said, rather annoyed.
"You? What do YOU want?" Sasuke asked shocked, as he recognized the three persons in front of him. "Suigetsu, Karin, Juugo…" The smoke disappeared in the wind.
"OH, HOW SWEET." Suigetsu shouted out leaving the sarcasm out. "He remembers our names." He chuckled.
"Sasuke-kun!" Karin ran over to him and hugged him. "How is my sweet apple pie?" Then she looked at a disgusted Naruto. "Hello?!" She released the raven-haired and ran over to Naruto. She stood in front of him investigating his body. "Who is THIS hottie and why is it the first time I see you?"
"Uhmmm, Sasuke-kun?" Sakura started.
"Yes, Sakura-chan" Sakura blushed at the –chan suffix but continued talking.
"Who is this whore?"
"This is Karin. These three are the ones who helped me search for Itachi. They are part of Akatsuki, the four of us weren't just into the whole robe thing."
"I see." Karin was still in front of Naruto stretching her arm to touch him when her face met Hinata's fists. She stared at the red-haired evil-eyed.
"Don't you DARE, even touch him." She yelled. Naruto stared at her wide-eyed. Better not mess with her, kid. Kyuubi said. I know that, fur-ball. Naruto replied mentally. Karin moaned.
"Ooh… why do the good ones always have to be taken? Anyhow, YOU ARE SO GOING TO PAY FOR THAT, YOU BITCH. You messed up my hair." She said pointing at Hinata. Sasuke and Sakura just looked confused.
"Hehe" Hinata laughed getting into her Juuken position. "Sakura, I bet you won't let me have all the fun." She continued.
"You've got another thing coming if you think I would." Sakura replied getting ready to attack.
"Humph! Fine, I'll play with the little girls." Karin said. To impress Sasuke and that hottie!!! "But don't cry when I beat you up to pulp."
"Oh, shut your yappin', you whore." Sasuke and Naruto glanced at each other.
"Pick one." Naruto offered. Sasuke grinned and looked at Juugo.
"You take care of Suigetsu" he pointed at the purple-eyed. "I'll take care of Juugo here." By then the girls had already started the fight. Hinata used her 8 Trigrams, 64 Palms. Karin kept dodging her chakra hands. I only need one hit. She thought. Her last strike hit Karin directly on her shoulder.
"Sasuke!" Naruto started. "I sense evil chakra from the carrot-top. I presume he has the curse-mark."
"Yes." He confirmed
"Be careful and this time DO remember you don't have one anymore." Naruto started gesturing. "Remember? Sakura. Take. Mark. From. Shoulder. After. Us. Return. Village."
"I get it dobe. Pay attention now! You'll need to watch out for what you do. Look at Suigetsu's back. He uses Zabuza's Blade." Naruto's eyes widened. "He was related to him. I helped him find the blade."
"Hai, just take care of the other one." Naruto pointed to the tall orange-haired.
Meanwhile Hinata and Sakura where still trying to hit Karin. Her right arm was disabled by Hinata's technique. Hmmm… Karin thought The Hyuuga is strong, has some good techniques, but the pinky is just getting in her way. Oh, well. Let's just destroy her and then I can have fun with the Hyuuga. But where was Sakura?
"You know you can't sneak up on me" she said confidently, turned around and punched Sakura's face making her fly back and hit against a tree that pulverized. "I can sense your chakra better than anyone else." Suddenly she felt pain. The red-haired was unable to move her head.
"Never turn your back on the enemy. Simple Academy rule." Hinata remembered her as Karin fell on the ground, beaten. She had hit her with Juuken. "One down. In two minutes, you'll be dead, darling." Sakura laughed weakly and passed-out. "Didn't even use the Byakugan". The girls looked at Naruto and Sasuke who were still talking about the enemy's powers.
"Sasuke..." Suigetsu interrupted them and sighed. "We were ordered by Tobi… Or should I say, Madara, to bring you back dead or alive."
"Well…" Sasuke replied taking out the sword Orochimaru gave him when he was fourteen. He gestured him to come. "Then come and get me." Naruto raised his arm.
"Sasuke" He said. "I'm sure you don't need my help with the weirdo and with carrot-top, so just call me when you need back-up" He went over to Hinata and Sakura, who were sitting under a tree's shadow. "Just hurry it up, will you?"
"You never told me you and the Kyuubi no Jinchuuriki were friends." Suigetsu said.
Sasuke pointed his sword to Juugo and, once more, gestured Suigetsu to attack him. And so it began. The purple-eyed went at max-speed, swung his blade with killer-intend and sliced Sasuke in half. After a second, Sasuke turned into a piece of wood. Juugo pounded it in anger and completely destroyed it.
"Substitution..." Suigetsu said unimpressed and chuckled. "Come on, Sasuke, why do you still even use those genin-level techniques?" The raven haired appeared behind him and held his sword touching his former teammate's neck. "Hehe, impressive! But, don't tell me you forgot blades and swords don't work on me!" Suigetsu finished and laughed harder.
Sakura was unconscious. Hinata was trying her best with a first-aid kit and her ointments, but the pink-haired kunoichi wouldn't budge and didn't seem to heal at all.
"Hinata..." Naruto appeared beside her. "Let me take care of Sakura-chan."
"Do you know healing jutsu?" She asked looking her boyfriend looking at him in the eyes.
"No… but at the same time, yes." He answered, happy to see Hinata with a confused look on her face. Silence…
"*Sigh*, explain please."
"It heals, but it isn't medical ninjutsu. Please, don't tell anyone about this" Suddenly, Naruto's hands were covered by a dark-red aura. He placed them on top of Sakura's cheek and stomach. Hinata was amazed by what she saw. It was incredible! In a few seconds, the kunoichi's wounds were completely healed. It was as if they never were there. Sakura started opening her green-eyes and met Naruto's face, his eyes sparkling.
"Are you okay, Sakura-chan?" He asked her as she remembered where she was.
"GAAAAAAAAH!" She screamed and punched Naruto's face sending him flying back. He hit against a big boulder.
"Sakura… please stop killing him." Hinata sighed again as she helped her teammate up. "Sakura-chan… what was that for?"
"You were staring at me with a too lovey-dovey look. It scared me." She answered acting all high and mighty. Suigetsu was watching the scene highly entertained.
"Lightning Blade!" Sasuke yelled as he stabbed Suigetsu's back. He smiled. "Never get distracted by anything other than your opponent." He said removing his sword and packed it on his sword-holder. (A/n: Or… whatever it is).
I'm forgetting something important. He thought. Out of nowhere he started coughing out blood and before Sasuke could open his eyes he was on the ground, fainted.
"Sasuke-kun!" Sakura yelled desperately as she saw her crush lying half dead on the ground. Before Juugo could punch Sasuke with his second stage curse seal transformed arm again, Naruto summoned twenty Kage Bunshins, who attacked Juugo keeping him busy, while Naruto took Sasuke to safety.
"Hinata-chan, Sakura-chan, heal the Teme's wounds" Sakura started to protest, but was interrupted by a serious looking Naruto. "I will finish the freak off." Juugo was starting to lose control of himself and was turning into a violent killing-machine as it happened so many times before. He held his hands on his head yelled in pain. Out of nowhere he fell to the ground… dead.
"What the fuck?" Hinata exclaimed in shock.
"What was that all about? How did he die all of a sudden?" Naruto asked. Sakura approached the dead bodies that shockingly started to glow a shade of light yellow. Kid… you were fooled. What happened?Naruto asked. Watch. The bodies returned to normal. Something was wrong. Those weren't Sasuke's old teammates.
"Akatsuki's pets." Naruto said hanging his head, closing his eyes and smirking. "I think this is some kind of …" He put his index and middle fingers on top of 'Juugo's' head "A-Ranked Jutsu.." (A/n: You'll have to watch the Shippuden series to know about this. No further spoilers).
"These three were basically human sacrifices." Hinata continued staring down at them as she activated her Kekkei Genkei. She researched the bodies. "It seems they have two chakras. I presume it was their own and Sasuke's 'friend's' one. They were most likely controlling the bodies from far away."
"What do we do with them, Naruto?" Sakura asked looking at her teammate."
"I'll take care of them, just resume healing Sasuke."
As soon as Sasuke woke up it was nightfall. They soon found themselves at the same spot they settled for camp the day before.
"You have GOT to be kidding me!" Sakura protested
"Crap!" Sasuke yelled out and he heard his eco –AP –AP –AP. He was able to recover with no problem.
"Shimata!" Naruto sighed. "Oh well, Sasuke you write the report to granny Tsunade and when you're done you'll help me set the tent up. In the meantime you girls… uhm… can chat? Gossip about how cute we are whatever and at 7:30 you cook dinner, OK?" Sakura and Hinata were protesting, but Sasuke just ignored them.
At 8 o'clock…
Tsunade was having dinner in behind her giant paper mountain. Shizune went barging in.
"Tsunade-sama" she started.
"Can't I have ONE meal in peace?" The Hokage protested placing her plate on the desk and turning around to face her assistant.
"I'm sorry, but we received the report from Naruto's team." She handed the scroll over to Tsunade. She took it and released the sealing jutsu opening the scroll.
Tsunade-sama,
This is Sasuke speaking. While approaching the border, we were attacked by three of my former teammates from Akatsuki. However, after beating them, we realized that we were fooled. Those weren't their real bodies; they were using some sort of jutsu while controlling the bodies from far away. At sun set our team noticed we were exactly at the same spot we were yesterday night. We are setting camp here once more, but tomorrow it's certain we will cross over to the Kaminari no Kuni.
My deepest apologies,
Uchiha Sasuke.
"I see…" Tsunade commented. "Very well, then. It's nothing too important."
"What happened?" Shizune asked trying to read the upside down document. Tsunade closed it.
"Oh, nothing much." She said looking out the window grinning slightly. "They were attacked and haven't moved at all."
Naruto and his team were already sleeping, only Sasuke was awake. He could hear Naruto's quiet snoring while Hinata was mumbling 'Naru-kun' during her sleep and Sakura sleeping peacefully. He tucked himself in his sleeping-bag, put his hand on Sakura's left hip and fell asleep.
