I've seen fics where Kievan Rus is the mother of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. So I decided to use that as inspiration for this.
I don't own Hetalia.
Kiev, 1232
The little girl watches carefully as her mother goes about her business, and has a feeling that she needs to remember what she sees for later.
They tell her things- her mother, her sister, her brother, the People (they look like them but they're different, much different, or so she hears). And she tells things to her younger siblings, and they listen intently. At first they didn't understand what she meant when she told them everything, and later they didn't quite believe her.
Her mother tells her stories of long ago, of the Varangians who found her, of rulers who brought them the Orthodox Church, and she wonders what it would have been like to see it. Or what it will be like when she gets big like her mother, her own true empire name, People that answer to her, or if this will happen before she gets big.
But her mother tells her there are bad things called power struggles, and unrest, and that is why her mother has been sick lately. Things like that don't make the People sick, and the diseases they get don't affect her kind.
She wants to go back before the time of these things, so life won't be as difficult. It isn't very fun watching all the adults fight, and she hopes that when she is big she won't have to deal with these things as much as her mother.
But her mother is sick, and she watches carefully, for her mother is instructing her what to do when the decade or century comes, and her mother is telling her there must be a successor.
She has heard People use that word, and her mother, and the successor, she thinks, might have to be her when she gets big. And one day, she realizes, if this is true, this will be another story of long ago, but somehow, she thinks that it only sounds that simple.
