The seasons were slowly starting to chase. The warm summer air was growing colder, closer toward fall. September was still new, but the fall was coming fast. The sun was high in the sky, but the air was surprisingly chilly for the afternoon. I had taken to wearing one of her new blouses purchased by I and her cardigan over top. Her shirt was a deep cream color with the sleeves reaching her elbows. The fabric ruched across the bodice and up the seams. The bodices came down in a 'V' shape. Her cardigan was white with long sleeves. The cardigan hung loose against her body, swaying in the breeze as she walked from the clinic. I walked along the sidewalk, looking for a cab. She wasn't in a terrible hurry, not while she was talking with I on her phone.
"The Doctor estimates me at twenty-one weeks now." Emily said.
"Wow, did you know you have seven more weeks in this trimester? And you're halfway through your pregnancy." JEss said.
EMily smiled. "Yes, the doctor told me."
"What did she say about the baby moving?" Jess asked.
"She told me to start monitoring the movements." Emily answered. She glanced down the street but saw no cabs.
"Are you starting to get uncomfortable?" Jess asked.
"Not really. Though I supposed you should ask me again in another twenty weeks and I'm sure my response will change." Emily answered.
Jess laughed.
"Has Connor finished updating the ADD system?" Emily asked.
"Yes. We are now one hundred percent up and running. Everything's finally in order." Jess explained.
Emily lowered her head to the ground. "Including the personnel quarters?"
Jess hesitated on the other end. "Yes, the quarters are finished."
Emily lifted her head. "You know Jess I'm just curious how on earth it took so long. I mean, the quarters aren't large, yet they took so long to complete. Did Lester hire the slowest people he could find?"
"No, he just put it as the lowest priority." Jess answered.
Emily sighed. "Well that explains it. Of course now when everyone has grown accustomed to their situation he finally finishes the project."
"You're more than welcome to stay with me, Emily." Jess said.
Emily caught sight of a cab. She stepped toward the curb and waved her arm. "We agreed until the quarters were completed Jess. I can't keep depending on everyone here."
"Then at least spend tonight at the flat. A goodbye party." Jess suggested.
Emily opened the door to the cab and climbed in. "Deal. I just got in the cab, I'll be back soon."
Later in the evening, Jess and Emily were seating on the sofa. Jess' legs were drawn up to her chest, facing Emily. Emily leaned back in the couch, turning her body to look at Jess. Her legs were closed together, as a young woman would do back in her time. Connor and Abby had left close to an hour ago, leaving the two flat mates alone.
"It's going to be so lonely here without you." Jess said.
Emily smiled. "Honestly Jess, I think you're going to be just fine. After all, you managed before Abby and Connor moved in."
Jess nodded. "Yes, but then I got used to them living here. And when they moved out this place was so lonely. Having you here was so much fun."
"I enjoyed living here too Jess. But it's time I moved on." Emily said.
"I know. At least I'll always know where you are." Jess said.
Emily laughed. "Jess, I'm always carrying a black box."
"You better be." Jess replied smiling.
"I'm going to miss these evenings, Jess." Emily said.
"Well then, if you're ever bored of your room at the ARC, you're more than welcome to spend the night here." Jess said.
Emily smiled. "That's very gracious of you, Jess."
Jess picked up her glass of cider. "To good flat mates."
Emily picked up her glass. "Cheers."

September sixteenth two thousand and eleven
Since my passing through the gateways, very rarely have I maintained a place of residents. Today is no different. For the past few weeks I've been residing in Jessica's flat until the chambers at the facility were completed. Today, I received word that they have been such. Yet another temporary housing unit I move to. Jessica was less than pleased with the completion. Truthfully, so am I. I have grown very fond of Jessica during these past few weeks. She's has been a wonderful friend and extended so much hospitality I can never repay. I will miss our even chats, which tend to somehow turn to the Captain. I've made it my own personal mission to make her blush during our conversations. Shamefully, it is quite enjoyable. However, Jessica was most adamant of maintaining my residence for at least the evening. She explained it as a goodbye party. It was most enjoyable. Abigail and Connor joined us as well. The Captain was unable to make, much to Jessica's dismay. However, the party was very amusing nonetheless. I shall miss this place very much. Compared to the previous residencies I have resided within, Jessica's has been the most comfortable, and Matthew's. Still, we are all aware that my residing within the ARC is much safer and more convenient for everyone. Though, Jessica has extended an invitation to join her at her flat should I grow tired of the ARC chambers. I suppose I shall know tomorrow if I am to take her up on her offer.
In other news, my visit to my doctor is nothing but good news. She tells me that my child is developing as they should be. She has also told me to keep record of the movements as well. They should become more frequent as time progresses. It is a relief to know that my child is developing as they should be. Jessica has asked if I am growing more excited with the pregnancy and I am. However, I must confess that I am growing nervous as time passes. I am unaware what to expect of my condition, though I have been told what I am most likely to expect.
Moreover, it has been two months since Matthew's disappearance and there is still no news of him. I pray he is well and safe.
