Emily stood in the kitchen, fixing tea. Matt was lying on his makeshift bed, trying to relax. He was reading over reports of the facility remodeling. A task he claimed that used very little energy and would come in handy when he returned to the facility several days later. She picked up two cups lying beside the sink and set them upright on the countertop. She pulled the steel kettle from the stove and poured the hot water into them.

Suddenly Matt's phone rang loudly, echoing throughout the silent flat. Matt turned in his place, wincing slightly. Emily turned quickly, setting the kettle back on the stove. She walked across the kitchen and picked up Matt's phone. She opened the phone and pressed the accept button. Thank god for Jess and her patients in teaching Emily about electronics of the timeline.

"Matt Anderson's phone." Emily said.

"Emily, it's me, Jess." Jess said.

Emily smiled. "Hello Jess. What do I owe the pleasure of your call? Is something wrong at the ARC?"

Matt's brows rose. He swung his legs onto the floor.

Emily looked up and caught his movements. She held out her hand, pointing her index finger at him. "Don't you dare."

"No, it's nothing like that. I was just calling to see how Matt's doing." Jess replied. "By the sound of it, he's trying to move."

"Yes he is. I suppose I shouldn't have mentioned anything about the ARC." Emily replied.

"Probably not. But now we've learned what to avoid." Jess stated.

Emily nodded. "Yes. He's fine by the way. Reading the facility remodel reports."

"The man doesn't know how to take a break." Jess said.

"If I'm not mistaken, I believe Captain Becker is the same way." Emily replied. "Did you want to talk to him?"

"Yes. Why don't you put the phone onto speaker mode? I don't want to interrupt anything you were doing." Jess explained.

"Alright." Emily pulled the phone from her head and pressed the button. The sound from the phone changed and she set it back down on the counter. "Go ahead Jess."

"Matt, putting the final touches to your office and we need to know how you want your furniture placed." Jess explained.

Matt shook his head. "Just put everything in there. I'll deal with it when I get back."

"You're sure?" Jess asked.

"Yeah." Matt nodded. He grabbed the arm of the chair and moved to stand up.

"Matt if you even try to stand I will shoot you." Emily warned.

Matt's brows rose.

"She'll do it, Matt. Becker gave her an EMD and he's been training her at the range. She's really good." Jess replied.

Mat moved his hand from the back of the chair and pulled his legs back up.

"I'll let you two alone now. And Matt, try not to give Emily a reason to shoot you. I'm not sure Lester will give you any more medical leave." Jess explained.

"Thanks Jess." Matt called.

"I'll see you two soon." Jess said.

"Bye Jess." Emily said. She closed the phone and ended the call. Emily grabbed the cups from the counter and walked into the living room. She passed one of the cups to Matt and seated herself onto the mattress.

"Thanks." Matt took the cup into his hands. He took a small sip and paused. "That's not bad. It's pretty good actually."

Emily smiled and sipped from her own cup.

"What is it?" Matt asked, taking another sip.

"Family tea recipe." Emily answered. "From my mother's family. She used to make some whenever we were feeling poorly."

Matt nodded. "What's in it?"

Emily smiled. "I'm not sure I should tell you."

Matt chuckled. "Then don't."

Emily laughed lightly, taking another sip from her cup. She turned her head and looked out the side window.

Matt took another sip from his cup and watched Emily. There was just something about her that he saw. It wasn't due to the fact that she was pregnant, no. He'd seen it before. He'd seen it several times in fact. From the moment she hit him with a branch to the night they spent together. It was something that drawing him back to her. Something he just couldn't figure out. She was beautiful, there was no question. Strong, resistant, adaptive, funny, absolutely brilliant, but there was more. Emily was gentle, kind, affectionate, and resourceful. She never asked for recognition for her actions, always took responsibility when anything went wrong. Even now, she was staying with him when she didn't have to. And from what he heard, Matt owed her for a lot more than anyone was letting on.

"Emily?" Matt asked.

Emily turned her head toward him.

"If it's alright, I'd like to go with you to your next appointment." Matt said.

Emily was silent. She stared at him with a blank expression. Matt suddenly felt very nervous. Perhaps Emily didn't want him there anymore. But Emily shook her head, whipping the shook from her face.

"Um...of course. But it won't be for another few weeks." Emily explained.

"That's fine." Matt replied.

"May I ask why the sudden interest?" Emily asked.

Matt took a quick sip of his tea, choosing his words carefully. "I don't want to miss anymore."

Emily smiled.

London England

September twenty-eight two thousand and eleven

Matthew is just as restless as ever. It is the first day of his leave from work and he cannot seem to maintain five minutes of stillness. I have ventures into the living room to find him rising from his chair no less than ten times today. I fear tomorrow he will try it further, possibly even complete the task in sitting down before I return. I will have to ask Becker for a hip holster for my EMD. I can't seem to keep it in my hands constantly. But perhaps the recognition of the weapon on my persons with ease Matt's apprehensive behavior. Though I will be none too surprise should it have no effect on him at all.

Matthew did surprise me today. He asked permission to accompany me to my next appointment. He explained that he didn't wish to miss anything further. I can only assume he was referring to the baby. I could scarcely contain my surprise by his words. Even now hours later I am very pleased with his wish to be a part of our daughters' life. I only hope he will continue to be as willing when she is born.
