Two weeks later, Charlotte wakes up and studies the calendar. She counts the days three times and pulls a pregnancy test out of the cabinet. Her eyes light up when it turns positive. She's barely spoke to Cooper the past two weeks since they found out about Ethan. Cooper's been sleeping on the couch. They drive into work in separate cars. Cooper's already left for work. Charlotte sends him a text. "How bout a truce. Can we be friends again?"

Cooper texts back "Let's be more than friends."

Charlotte types into her phone. "How's lunch sound?"

"Today?"

"Yes today."

"I can't. TTYL"

Charlotte knocks on the door to Cooper's office smiling. Cooper looks up. "Why are you in such good spirits .."

"I'll tell you that at lunch."

"I can't. Today's not good."

"Why?"

"Jen called. Ethan was asking to see me again. I haven't seen him since the day I found out he was my son. I can't cancel our first meeting together."

"Fine. Then dinner?"

"Dinner it is"

Cooper meets Ethan and Jen at a fast food restaurant. "Tell me about yourself, Ethan. Do you like sports."

"I love basketball."

"Are you a Lakers fan, Ethan."

"A big one. I wish I could go to the game tonight but we don't have tickets."

'Yeah me too. It's going to be a good game."

Jen laughs. "I can see you two have something in common already."

"We should play basketball one on one someday."

"That'd be okay."

"I'll let you know when but now I have to get back to work."

"Bye Doc Cooper or daddy, whoever you are. Thank you for lunch"

Cooper smiles and waves goodbye.

Cooper gets back to work and passes Sam in the hall. "How's it going, Sam?"

"Could be better."

"Why?"

I just got called in to do a cardiac bypass. It's going to take me all day."

"Isn't that what cardio surgeons do?"

"Yeah but tonight is the big Lakers game and I have prime seats."

"I'll buy your tickets off you. I know a little boy who'd love to go to the Lakers' game."

"You got a deal." Cooper and Sam exchange money and tickets before Cooper returns to his office.

Charlotte's waiting. "How was your lunch with Ethan?"

"It went well. He's a big Lakers' fan like me."

"Isn't that nice?"

"Yeah. I just bought two tickets off Sam for the game tonight. I'm going to surprise Ethan with them."

"What about our dinner?"

"Can't we go out to dinner tomorrow night?"

"Is this how it's going to be from now on? You're going to be out with your spawn all the time."

"I told you not to call him that and this is the first day I've seen him since I met him two weeks ago."

"Whatever."

Cooper shows up at Jens apartment an hour before the game. Jen answers the door. "What are you doing here?"

Cooper holds up the tickets. "I got two tickets to the Lakers game. Prime seats. I wanted to surprise Ethan."

"Ethan's not here. He's sleeping over his friend Sean's house tonight."

"Oh. Well can you call him and see if he wants to come home and go to the game with me. He said he wanted to go and these are good seats"

"Come on in." Cooper walks in the cluttered apartment. There's a young dude sitting on the couch.

"Hey dude." The young dude says to Cooper.

"Hey yourself."

"You got tickets to the Lakers game?"

"Yep."

"Well if Ethan don't wanna go I'll buy them off you."

"These are expensive seats."

"I got the cash." The dude pulls a wad of fifty's out of his pocket,

Jen comes back in the room. "Ethan's going to pass on the game tonight. They're making homemade pizza and ice cream at Sean's house. Then Sean's going to let him play with his Nintendo DS 3D."

"But he said he was a big Lakers fan."

"He's seven. Homemade pizza, ice cream and playing video games beat out a basketball game."

The dude asks. "Hey man, how much you want for the tickets?"

"I paid a hundred."

"Here you go." The dude hands Cooper the cash and Cooper leaves.

Cooper's asleep in bed when Charlotte gets home. "Where were you?" He asks.

"I was at the hospital working. No sense in staying home alone since you were out with your spawn…I mean …son."

"He had other plans."

"You didn't go to the game?"

"Nope. I've been home all night. I called you three times."

"I hit ignore."

"Why?"

"I wanted to ignore you."

"We'll do dinner tomorrow, I promise."

"You better not break it this time or I'll break your legs." Cooper laughs.

The next evening Charlotte comes home from work to find Cooper and Ethan playing video games on the couch. "What's he doing here?"

"Jen had to do overtime at the diner and she had nobody to watch him."

"But we have dinner plans."

"He can come along. He needs to eat too."

"I made reservations at the Chopping House. It's not kid friendly."

"So we'll go somewhere that is kid friendly. How about the Hibachi Grill? Kids love the show the waiters put on."

"No, Cooper. It was supposed to be a special night out, just me and you."

"I'm sorry but Jen was stuck and asked me to baby sit"

"You could have said no."

"He's my kid."

"I'm your wife."

"I know that."

"Then treat me like it." Charlotte plops a box wrapped with blue paper on the couch next to Cooper.

"What's that?"

"It's a present. I was going to give it to you at dinner tonight but it doesn't matter anymore."

Charlotte storms toward the front door. "Where are you going, Char?"

"Not your concern."

Cooper opens the box and pulls out a white teddy bear. "That must be for me." Ethan grabs the bear out of Cooper's hand. Adults don't get teddy bears for presents. Ethan pulls the pregnancy test off of the teddy bears paws. "What's this?" Cooper looks at the pregnancy test and his heart sinks into his stomach. "That's for me, Ethan." Cooper takes the teddy bear from Ethan. The bear's wearing a shirt that says -I love my daddy." Cooper's eyes start to tear.

"I told you it was for me." Ethan exclaims, "It says I love my daddy."

"No, it's for a new baby, Ethan. My wife Charlotte is going to have a baby."

"Cool. That means I'll be a big brother. I always wanted a baby brother or sister to knock around."

"To knock around.?"

"I'm just kidding. I won't knock em too hard if it's just a baby."

The doorbells rings. Cooper answers. "Jen, what are you doing here so early?"

"Turns out the diner was slow so the boss sent me home."

"I wish you would have called, Charlotte just left. I broke our plans for tonight. If I knew you'd be home so early we could have still gone out to dinner."

"So, call her now."

"Mom. I'm going to be a big brother." Ethan shows her the bear with the I love daddy shirt.

"Your wife's having a kid?"

Cooper nods.

"I'll tell you right now. My son is not playing second fiddle to your little rich kid."

"What?" Cooper furrows his brow.

"If you're gonna pull that favoritism shit with you're wife's kid getting preference you better tell me right now. I will not put Ethan through that."

"I have no intention of playing favorites."

"You better not or you won't see Ethan again." Jen takes Ethan home.

Cooper tries to call Charlotte but gets no answer. He finally calls Violet to ask for advice.

"Charlotte's here, Cooper. She'd exhausted and asleep in our guest room."

"Did she tell you she's pregnant?"

"Yes, and that you're being an ass."

"It's the second time I saw Ethan since I met him two weeks ago. I want to get to know him. What's wrong with that?"

"Nothing but you kept breaking plans with Charlotte. She had something special to share with you and now the moment is ruined"

"It wouldn't have been if she didn't run out so fast. Jen came to get Ethan fifteen minutes after Charlotte left. If she wouldn't have ran out we could have gone to dinner and had our special moment."

"Don't put this on her, Cooper. This is your mess. You have to find a way to fix it, not Charlotte."

Cooper takes a breath and hangs up tries to figure out a way to fix this mess.

To Suz- The names are Erica and Mason in the spoiler but this is my story, not the show. I don't know how they'll write them in the show. I changed their names because I can't write them as Erica and Mason since I have no idea what those characters will be like. Thanks for reading. :D

Since I recieved four reviews, I am going to continue. I'll stop when the reviews stop or when the story naturally ends.
