"Are you ready for your ultrasound?" Addison leads Charlotte and Cooper into her office.
"We've been ready." Cooper smiles. We get to find out the sex of the babies today.
"Here we go." Addison begins. "Everything looks normal."
"Don't leave us waiting, Montgomery. Tell us the sex." Charlotte bellows.
Addison smiles. "You have one of each."
"Good." Charlotte nods. "We'll have the perfect family; one boy and one girl."
Cooper thinks about Ethan. He'll have two boys and one girl but he knows better than to bring up Ethan during his special moment with Charlotte. "Perfect family," he nods. "Although I was kinda hoping for identical twins. That'd be neat."
"Maybe next time." Addison smiles.
Charlotte gets up from the table. "There won't be a next time. Two's plenty enough for me."
Later that afternoon, Cooper's in Charlotte's office discussing baby names. He gets a text from Jen. "Aw, come on," he says to himself.
"Who is it?" Charlotte asks.
"It's Jen. She's canceling."
"Why?"
"She doesn't say why." Cooper complains. "I only see Ethan one day a month and this is the second time she called to cancel."
"You saw him last month. I was sick as a dog while you were on your play date with Ethan."
"I did end up seeing him but Jen tried to cancel. I had to talk Ethan into watching a movie with me."
"Do you think she's influencing him to cancel?"
"No. Ethan wants to cancel but she doesn't try to push him either. Sometimes, I wonder why she contacted me if they don't want me in his life."
"They want your money is all."
"I think you're right but I want to try and change that. I want to be a positive influence in Ethan's life. He needs me."
"He got along the first seven years fine without you. What makes you think he needs you now?"
"If I was raising him, things would be different. Jen lets him do whatever he wants. He plays video games all day. I've never seen him pick up a book. He's addicted to TV."
"That's probably why he wants to cancel your play date. He can't do whatever he wants."
Cooper calls Jen.
Jen answers on the first ring. "You got my message?"
"Why are you canceling? I only see him one day a month as it is."
"It's not me. Ethan doesn't want to go again."
"Well, tell him he has to."
"He doesn't have to."
"Let me talk to Ethan."
Jen puts Ethan on the phone. "Hello."
"What's going on, pal?"
"I want to stay home."
"We'll do whatever you want. What do you want to do?"
"I want to stay home."
"I wanted to take you out for pizza and go bowling."
"No. I want to stay home."
"What are you going to do at home?"
"I'm going to watch Wizards of Waverly Place. It's a brand new episode."
"You can watch it at my place. How's that?"
"Will you buy me a new game for my Nintendo DS if I go? The game costs fifty dollars."
Cooper sighs and gives in. "I'll take you to the video store to pick out a game, then pizza and ice cream. We'll be home by eight to watch your show."
"Okay!" Ethan perks up. "I'll put my mom on the phone."
"I guess you convinced him?" Jen asks.
"I have to buy him a video game."
Jen laughs. "I taught him good."
Cooper's quiet.
"I'm kidding, Cooper. I didn't tell him to ask you for a game."
"I know. I just don't want him to think I'm going to buy him something in order for him to see me."
"After he gets to know you, he'll want to see you. I know I do. I miss your sexy tongue."
Cooper sighs. "That's why you're dropping him off in the lobby. Violet will meet you there at five o' clock and bring him up to me."
"You're just afraid you won't be able to keep your mouth off me if we meet face to face." Jen snickers. "You naughty boy. I know you've been having wet dreams about me."
"It's not that." Cooper swallows and clears his throat. "It's just better this way."
"Are you and Charlotte having sex?"
"I'm not answering that."
"Let's see, she's about five months pregnant now with twins. She must be huge."
Cooper ignores her comment. "I'll drop Ethan off at Violet and Pete's house at ten and then Pete will bring him to your place."
"Oh yeah, you're not having sex. I told ya so." Jen teases. "You're terrified to be alone in a room with me."
"You're not funny." Cooper hangs up and looks at Charlotte. "What do you say to some pizza and ice cream tonight?"
Charlotte looks up from the chart she's writing in. "I'll pass."
"Come on, Char. I want you to get to know Ethan. He's my son."
"I'm still getting acquainted with your son and daughter who are are intent on rearranging my insides." She holds her belly.
"But, I want Ethan to get to know you too."
"From the sounds of things, Ethan isn't too fond of spending time with you. What makes you think he wants to know me?"
"At least try, Char, for me?"
"I scheduled a staff meeting at St. Ambrose this evening. I knew it was your play date with Ethan."
Cooper sighs and kisses her goodbye. "Okay then, I'll see you tonight when you get home."
Charlotte grits her teeth. "Have fun with Ethan." Charlotte's trying, she doesn't call Ethan a spawn this time. She doesn't like it and it isn't an easy process but she's trying to get used to the idea of Ethan being a part of Cooper's life.
