Cooper helps Charlotte get dressed and the walk out of the bedroom. "Uh, oh." Cooper says. "I forgot Ethan is asleep on the couch."
"He's going to have to come with us." Charlotte answers.
"Ethan, wake up." Cooper shakes the boy awake.
"What?" The boy answers rubbing his eyes.
"We need to take Charlotte to the hospital. Her water broke."
"Is she bleeding?" Ethan asks. "Does she need stitches?"
"No, why?"
"Where did she cut herself?"
"She didn't cut herself."
"But you said she broke her water."
"Not a glass of water." Cooper answers.
"Then why does she need to go to the hospital?"
"She's going to have the babies. We need to go."
Ethan puts his shoes on. "But the babies aren't supposed to be born until Halloween."
"Sometimes twins are born early. There's not enough room for them both to grow much bigger in Charlotte's belly."
"Oh.' Ethan wipes his eyes and follows them out to the car. After they arrive at the hospital Cooper Charlotte and Ethan meet Addison in the labor room.
"I need to examine Charlotte." Addison tells Cooper. Ethan shouldn't be in the room,
.
"I can bring him to your office and let him sleep there." Cooper tells Charlotte.
"No, I don't want him alone in my office at night?"
"Oh yeah." Cooper remembers.
"He can sleep in one of the waiting rooms. Just ask the nurses to keep an eye on him. Ask Shelia, she's good she'll keep an eye on him." Charlotte tells Cooper.
"Okay." Cooper walks Ethan to the waiting room which is empty and helps him settle into a lounge chair. He finds nurse Shelia and asks her to keep an eye on him. Cooper returns to Charlotte and Addison. "How is she?" Cooper asks Addison.
"Charlotte is almost fully dilated. These babies want out." Addison tells him. Cooper holds Charlotte's hand as she sweats and grits her teeth with contractions. It only takes a few hours and not long for Charlotte to push out the first baby because he is small. "Five and a half pounds, not bad for being six weeks early." Addison says. After five minutes Charlotte pushes out the girl. "This girl is even bigger than her brother at six and a half pounds." Addison remarks.
"That means you were carrying around twelve pounds of baby all together, Charlotte." Cooper smiles. "No wonder you went into labor six weeks early."
"No wonder I was so huge." Charlotte laughs.
"If these babies went to full term they'd be monsters." Cooper laughs and takes his daughter form the nurse to hold.
"They'd probably be about eight pounds each if Charlotte went to full term." Addison says as she hands Charlotte her baby son to hold.
"Sixteen pounds of baby, you'd have to roll me in here." Charlotte says.
"Do you want me to see if Ethan is awake. It's morning now." Addison asks them.
"That'd be fine." Charlotte tells her.
Ethan is sitting up watching TV in the waiting room. "Your new brother and sister are here." Addison tells Ethan. "Would you like to go see them?"
"Yes." Ethan's eyes light up bright.
Addison points him to the room. Ethan walks in and watches Charlotte and Cooper holding the twins.
"We have the perfect family now." Cooper tells Charlotte. "A little baby boy and a little baby girl."
Charlotte admires her babies. "They are perfect aren't they ?" She tells Cooper as she plays with her new son's little hand."
"How does it feel being a mom?" Cooper asks her.
"It feels wonderful. I didn't know I could love anyone as much as I love these two babies right now."
Cooper laughs "What about me?"
Charlotte smiles. "Yes, you too. They're part of you and part of me."
"It's a miracle." Cooper leans down and kisses Charlotte's head and then each of the babies. He looks up when he hears sniffles and notices Ethan standing by the door.
"Hey, Ethan. Do you want to see your new baby brother and new sister?"
"I can see them from here." Ethan wipes his eyes.
"What's the matter?" Cooper asks him.
"I want to go home. I want my mom."
"You're going to have to wait a little while until I can take you home."
"Okay. I'll wait outside in the waiting room."
Charlotte asks him. :Don't you want to see the babies."
"No thank you. Maybe later." Ethan wipes his eyes again.
"Are you tired?" Charlotte asks him. I'm sorry you had to sleep in the waiting room."
"It's okay. I'm going back there to watch TV." Ethan leaves the room.
"Suit yourself." Cooper says. Cooper looks at Charlotte. "Who would want to watch TV when they could watch these two cuties?"
Charlotte smiles. "That's cuz you're their daddy. You and I could watch them all day but Ethan is a seven year old boy, right now Sponge Bob gets preference."
Cooper laughs. "I'm going to make sure these two are into books like their mom and dad."
Charlotte and Cooper admire the twins for another hour before the nurse comes to take them to the nursery to check them out. They wheel Charlotte to her hospital room. Cooper goes to the waiting room to check on Ethan, He looks around but can't find him. He asks the nurses but they haven't seen him. "Do you know where nurse Shelia is?" He asks.
"Sheila left at the shift change a few hours ago." A nurse tells him. Cooper searches the hospital but can't find Ethan. He returns to Charlotte's room. "Have you seen Ethan?" he asks Charlotte.
"How could I see him? I've been here."
"I can't find him." Cooper says. I looked all over the hospital.
"He did seem a little sad earlier when we were holding the twins."
"Oh, jeez," Cooper says. "Maybe he got jealous and ran off."
Cooper gets a text message from Jen. "How dare you take Ethan without my permission. Bring him home now."
"Oh, great." Cooper says. He puts his hands over his head. "Now what do I do?"
"Have hospital security look for him." Charlotte suggests.
"Good idea" Cooper heads out to find security while the nurse brings the babies in the room for their morning feeding.
