Gwen Harkness. That's who I am, and always will be. This is my final story, the last chapter of this tale. The final words uttered, before we become a carless whisper in this bloody planet. This is what Torchwood does to you. It ruins your life, but when Torchwood becomes your life, things become more dangerous than ever and well, this is how I lost my life.
I stormed across the bay, wearing round my neck the one secret weapon I needed, and if Jack said it worked, then by god I would use it.
25 minutes earlier...
Andy picked up letter, sitting on the door mat. Nobody knew we were there... It must be from one of the others. I snatched it from his hand, and one the front it read: Use it. Perception filter, you know what it means. Inside was a silver key, on a piece of worn out, tatty string. I knew what this was, and what I needed it for.
"I gotta go Andy." I got up and ran out of the door, without uttering another word. I leant against the door, and put it round my neck. This bloody better work...
And thank fuck it did. I managed to get onto the invisible lift, heading down into the hub. I was so happy to see this old place. It seemed a ghost town without us in. I hopped off and looked at the scanner by the lift.
1 life form detected.
Good, we were on our own.
I ran over to my computer, everything as we left it. I checked, nothing. They hadnt done anything. They were just guarding, what the fuck? And thats when I saw it. The big blue box, towering over. By the cog door, parked as it always was when they were here. I slowly pushed the door open. The control room empty. I ran up to the scanner, I had no idea what to do, so I just pressed the black button on the middle of the screen. A video appeared, a woman started talking. Rose being that woman.
Dont think we forgot you'd go running to The Doctor, Gwen. We have him, and The Pond's so you need to make your mind up what your doing. Were gonna keep chasing you though. So now may be a good time to explain what I'm doing here.
She pulled up a basket, a familiar one. A baby's basket, blue with diamonds in the stars they looked just like- Oh my god.
"RIVAELLA!" I screamed, crying. My baby, she was dead!
Yes, yes we have your baby. So I tell you what. You can have your baby back, and if you escape when you come and get her, you can go and live in fear, run for the rest of your lives. ALL of you, the whole Torchwood team and your silly little River Song. Or you can come and rescue The Doctor, but beware, I will take her back to my world if you do, and you'll never see her again. So choose Gwen. And as your making your choice, this version of the world, will be ripped to shreds. By your husband's worst nightmare. That's right Gwen Cooper... Oops HARKNESS. There is Dalek's above in space and as soon as this message is finished, you have 5 hours before they come into orbit.
I ran out of The TARDIS, and ran round everyones computers, transmitting the video to everyone's PDA's. I just managed to hide the signal, so nobody knew what was happening. It sent. What was I meant to do now?
A hour later, my computer started to flash, opening up the chat again. Without The Doctor this time.
Gwen Cooper was added to the call.
Captain Jack Harkness was added to the call.
Doctor Martha Jones was added to the call.
Ianto Jones was added to the call.
Doctor Owen Harper was added to the call.
Toshiko Sato was added to the call.
Melody Pond was added to the call.
Chat open.
Gwen Cooper: We need to make a decision.
Captain Jack Harkness: She's still alive...
Gwen Cooper: I know, but we dont have time, The Dalek's will be in orbit in 4 hours time!
Melody Pond: We have to get Rivaella out, The Doctor's a big boy, he'll sort himself out, dont you worry. Even if we have to go back for him. She'll take her to another universe if we dont!
Doctor Owen Harper: Are you sure River?
Doctor Martha Jones: The Doctor's a brilliant man Owen, I know that. But I agree we have to get Rivaella out. I thought how there was hardly any details on how she died or what happened a bit too good to be true.
Toshiko Sato: We have to get back though to Gwen though.
Ianto Jones: Agreed.
Melody Pond: Shit! Jack, America has closed off its borders, so I cant come and get you with the vortex minipulator, so your gonna have to fly back, unless we get yours working somehow.
Captain Jack Harkness: Dont worry I'll sort it. Just get in there, and get out.
Melody Pond: Ok, Martha I'll come and get you first, then Ianto. I'll get to you all soon!
Chat ended.
3 hours to go...
An hour passed by, nothing yet, I sat in the hub, staring at The TARDIS. But with a flash of light, Martha appeared, nearly falling over in the process. I held her arm then hugged her tightly, taking Tyler out of her arms.
"Am I glad to see you Gwen!" She grinned.
2 hours to go...
After another hour, we were all in the hub, trying to be as quiet as ever. All of us together, except Jack. We couldnt wait any longer for him, so we made our way to Canary Wharf. We didnt have much time left, and we had to stop this now. River flew The TARDIS, landing on that dreaded top floor. This was probably gonna be the last story we'd ever tell...
We stepped out cautiously. Rose stood, proud and mighty, with Rhys just behind her. We left the babies in The TARDIS, probably the safest place to leave them. The Doctor, in chains against the wall, with The Pond's too, guarded by soldiers.
"Leave me!" The Doctor shouted at us. "Take her and go!"
River ran to his side, cupping his face with her hands.
I stepped forward towards Rose.
"And who have you chosen?"
"I've come for my daughter Rose." I snapped. She pointed to a table behind, where Rivaella's moses basket sat. I ran over to her, stroked her sleeping cheek as I started to cry. I kissed her forhead, nearly drowning her with my tears. I turned back to Rose. "Ok, so I've made my decision. Stop the Dalek fleet."
"Hm. Nah, I think its more fun this way." She grinned and picked up a radio from her belt. "Its time, battle positions!" We all screamed at her to stop, but she just laughed. The ground started to shake and we all fell. River jumped up, taking something green from her jacket, and shining it, unchaining The Pond's and The Doctor. She dragged them into The TARDIS, the guards focusing on the shaking to notice. Rose started firing at them but missed, as River shut the doors. I ran up to them and pounded on the door.
"DOCTOR LET US IN!" I started to cry as I backed away, The TARDIS materializing.
"NO!" Martha screamed, running towards to dissapearing box. "Please my babies are still in there!" Ianto pulled her back and into a hug, as the ground shooked even more fiercly. He left us, that bastard he left us. As the world started to fall apart we all watched as billions of Dalek's came flying out of the sky, shooting at the people below. Owen wrapped his arms around Tosh and the same with Ianto and Martha. I had never felt so alone. A flash of white appeared right next to us, and my wrist was grabbed by Jack. He put his wriststrap on me and clicked a button, leaving me on my own. I stood watching Canary Wharf crash and burn with the rest of the city, and the rest of the world.
I was all alone in the world, it was dying. My husband was in there with my best friends, they could be dying. My daughter was there too, my tiny little girl. And The Doctor had left us, to deal with his pyshco.
Everything was crashing and burning and the whole world was being destroyed, I was still public enemy number one so nobody else could help me. I had nothing left. My final story. My final chapter. My final tale.
My finale to my life.
